FOR EVERYONE that has the problem of "The filter produced no results. Select two overlapping paths," I think I found solution!!! Try THIS: Select all of the dots that were made Go to Object>Compound Path>Make THEN, try selecting your shape plus the dots, then Intersect. That might work! It worked for me. Hope this helps!
omg thank you. this is what I needed. simple explanation not too drawn out and boring. This was entertaining and kept my attention haha. I can't wait to explore your other videos!
Would be nice to get that last section tutorial. I get same issue as everyone else, and yes, I have outlined font. The whole extend option is not available and get same error as others.
I hate that at 6:50 you did like 10 steps in 3 seconds. For the average dumbass like myself, I had to rewind about 10 times just to make sure I was doing everything step by step... And for whatever reason after uniting the dots and square, my "Expand" button is grayed out? Was there a keystroke you did somewhere without mentioning it?
Great video but I am so confused. The design was red..not yellow. But some how when you put the halftones on it and did all the intersecting and expanding, some how it turned yellow. You make the halftones only red. Where did the yellow come from. You were moving so fast
Same problem around 6:55! After making your two shapes, go to Pathfinder menu and click ‘Make Compound Shape’ then click ‘Expand’...and the rest should be golden browns! Cheers!
Hi, I'm using Illustrator CS5, which doesn't seem to have "unite" in pathfinder (or anywhere!). I've copied and pasted the halftones over my graphic, but now I'm stuck with them covering the whole thing and I can't figure out how to "trim" them away from the graphic below. please help!
Thanks a lot man, I have been working on a comic book style ui for my game but the halftones kept coming with bg's that were hard to remove. This really helped. Much love bro keep it up
@@KeeponCreatingTVhey one more thing please, I know you’re busy and hopefully you can reply. So I watched the tutorial and the expand worked, however the interact did not. And clue? Or even another tutorial? I am knee deep in learning!
@@KeeponCreatingTVit’s at 6:56, I also meant intersect, sorry lol. Dude those letters are so sick man. It would only allow the halftone in one letter for me. My letters were a dark green with like halftone and a black outline around the letter. It turned the one letter all black with lime halftone and all other letters were normal. I appreciate you!
Alright man, coming up on 4 years here and since this video is still tracking well when searching for a halftone tutorial you should really update it. I mean at least put the last part directions in the description.
HELLO GOOD DAY. IM NEWBIE AND BEGINNER HERE IN ADOBE PHOTOSHOP. I LIKE YOUR TUTORIAL. I LEARN MORE LESSONS FROM YOU. I SUBSCRIBE YOUR CHANNEL. THANKS, GOD BLESS YOUR TUTORIAL
You really rushed the last part when you were showing how to apply the halftone. I literally can't understand what you were saying. Great job up until that point...
Hey Alan, ok go back a few steps. Just after you create your horizontal blend, go to the rotate function. Don't Hit 'Expand Appearance' before this, otherwise the entire graphic will rotate.
One more question. How do you control the color i was placing the halftones in yellow i had the halftones a darker shade of yellow hit intersect and they turn black
Hey Alan, just woke up! After you have rotated then and finished creating you effect, go up to 'Expand Appearance' You may need to do this twice. I would also recommend you ungroup, head to your pathfinder, hold alt and click the 'unite' icon. Then Click Expand. Now color change away! 😀
Hey man, great video! I do the same exact thing when im making half tones in AI. - my issue with this method is always what mesh I should choose since my halftones are never created mathematically like they are in photoshop... usually in photoshop you can calculate the exact mesh that will render the best result but with this method I’m always guessing which mesh to use just based on appearance. Any tips on mesh choice with this method??
Hey Shaun, great to hear from you! How small are you going with your dots? If your up for some CSI you could print a reference sheet from photoshop of general dot breaks. Then when you come to print your custom illustrator version, you can try match as close too. May need a magnifier if your dots get really small. Generally if I was hand printing Fine Halftones I would go between a 77T (196us) and a 90T (230us), as it's hard going on the arms! Still love your print shop man!
Hey EKA, photo's are a little different, but since your using photoshop you may already being using the halftone function in photoshop. This is where you can set dot size etc, so you can make your photo look more cartoon like to finer dots making it more real.
Keep on Creating Some halftone tutoring and also some dynamic text/lettering tutoring. I’m willing to compensate you well for your expertise. There's a lot of deep bass thumping going on in this video, really distracting. First thought it was someone in my building throwing around heavy things or something.

Dang, that worked a whole lot better than make gradient box, effect/pixellate/color halftone, and image trace. Thanks for that.
I like that approach.
Wait!!! Can you please explain the last steps to insert them into the letters!! Mine didn’t go into the letters right 😭
Thanks for explaining why you chose those numbers! It's always difficult to understand when other tuts just throw numbers out there

Ok so, make the rectangle, select both the dots and the rectangle , unite them, click expand. Expand for me isn’t happening? Any reason why?

Thats not halftone. Its blending and patterning dots.
Halftone is when you generate dots from a picture.
