I love this co-driver pack and will NOT be switching to any other one. But I just finished my first stage with this pack and noticed the 'Well done!" remark at the end, and I am so happy that you included all these little details. Thanks man!
You're far too kind 😅 trying to get audio levels right, especially when it's live and Discord voices can vary so dramatically, is a constant battle. Having the background certainly helps but never makes it any less stressful ha!
From what I saw I think sumpu means don't go wide on exit. In most cases it applies on turns that lead to another turn in the opposite direction. Where is faster when you finish the first turn in the middle of the road.
Those are the kind of notes that can really make a difference 😉 if there is some more time to gain by pushing a little bit extra (where it is safe, of course) then a "be brave" call is the right thing to add. Same for corners which always cause problems, an extra "caution" or "remember" can be the difference between a stage time or not. I really love the ability to add/edit pace notes in Richard Burns Rally, it takes all of the guesswork and interpretation out of driving 👍 and is also what the real drivers/co-drivers would do, tweaking their pacenotes to suit the stage and driving style.
This is great. Really easy to install and works fantastic. I tried to play with basic pace notes and it's just impossible. So many mistakes and different styles that i could not finish any stage. Now i feel confident and I'm not lost on those city labyrinths.
Thanks for the kind words, glad you found it easy and useful! Agreed that the original notes in RBR were a bit hit and miss but also lacking in detail, Luppis fixed a lot of that which I can't take credit for though 😉 I'm only putting the audio layer over the top. That said, being able to edit the position and type of pace note is a feature I haven't seen in any other game and makes RBR truly amazing. No need to remember any bad calls and adjust for them, you can just fix them like you would with a real codriver and their sacred notebook 👍

(Example at about 4:50 but the word is scattered all over the pace notes apparently.) I should add that otherwise these sound awesome and I think I am downloading them as soon as I get home. I can understand everything else really clearly.
You're not the first to be caught out by that word, it definitely got my attention too and needed a bit of research before recording so I could understand the context! It's "Summpu" which is a Finnish word and doesn't really have a direct single word translation into English, although at a stretch I guess "Tightens" or "Caution" would suffice, although not exactly. It's basically a warning that you can't go full attack and take the usual line through a corner to run it wide on exit, either due to a hazard which might not be obvious at first or because you need to keep the car within the limit of grip to be able to react. Hope this helps 👍

Sorry for the late reply! I recorded the audio using my regular recording/streaming software Streamlabs and then imported only the audio into my editing software Vegas Pro. It was then just a case of applying a few effects (heavy compression, slight distortion/overdrive, boost around 2kHz), trimming into individual files and then exporting. The trick is to save the files at 11kHz sample rate instead of 44kHz, not only does this make the file sizes smaller, it adds that authentic low quality sound we all know and love 👍

Your English is good 😎 don't worry about it! Nice. I really like Nicky Grist - and now we have DDF voice as well. However, immediately, in this Valstegna driving, I hear the finnish(?) SUMPPU message, that I know to well from Luppis v3. Do you happen to know, if it's possible to "batch substitude" this finnish word in the pacenotes once and for all?
@@benofficial2I think "sumppu" means "narrows" or"narrowing". I can't remember the word being used in Luppis v2, but maybe I'm mistaking? Or maybe it is simply a generic rally term (that happens to be of finnish origin). Anyway, as the plebeian that I am, I think I would like the codriver speaking in only one language :-)
I don't think there is an equivalent in Luppis V2. Summpu essentially translates as "bottleneck" but I prefer the Finnish word and hasn't taken me too long to get used to it
Not going to lie, the Sumppu call caught me off guard at first, especially with Nicky's accent 😅 after every call I'd be like "where poo?" because, of course, I'm a child like that. I thought about replacing it with an English word also but, same as Ursine Saturn, it became familiar to me quite quickly and it's nice short word which gets the point across very quickly. The way I interpret Sumppu is basically "take it easy through the mid corner and don't go out wide on exit, because" which can be different to "narrows" or "caution". Narrows is when the road becomes smaller, caution is for an object or hazard whereas sumppu lets you know that a conventional line probably isn't a good idea, better to take it at about 90% instead of maximising the road. You could always lower the corner number from a 4 to 3 example, but then that might lead you to believe the radius of the corner is tighter than it actually is.
When I started streaming many years ago people complained that they couldn't see my face because of the VR headset and couldn't see my emotions or reactions...so I fixed that 😎
No problem, it was a really enjoyable project to work on! I'm not _entirely_ sure on the meaning or direct translation of Summpu, but it's a Finnish word that was already included in Janne's mod and the Nicky Grist pack I based my notes on 👍 from what I understand though it essentially means caution/tightens on exit, there is something stopping you from taking the usual wide line out or it's maybe not a good idea to go super wide or full throttle until a bit later than normal.
The biggest thing that made the difference for me was saving the audio files at 11kHz instead of the usual 44kHz 👍 I also applied some heavy compression and slight distortion too.
I have a question: the sound quality being like an old telephone: is that realistic? So do drivers actually hear with that low quality or do they hear it in good quality but the sound of the tv streams is like low quality?
The quality is genuinely like that in real life 👍 race cars are *loud* and you end up having to boost the hell out of the signal to make it audible which adds a lot of distortion. I'm sure the earphones that the drivers have could play a much better signal than we hear, but the limitation is in the microphone where the audio is actually captured.
This is awesome and I am driving so much better, but there is one callout I cannot understand. It sounds like "soopoo" or something like that. You can hear it at 4:18 with "5 right, soopoo" I know this is a dumb question but what are you saying there LMFAO
Ah yes, the infamous "Sumppu" 😅 I've probably had more questions asked about that here in the comments than the pack itself, ha! It's a Finnish word that was included in the original voice files which I used as a reference and re-recorded when making this one. Basically it means 'tightens on exit' or 'danger on exit' and is a strong indicator that you can't accelerate out as you normally would, either because of a hazard or because the road quickly changes in the opposite direction. When you hear Sumppu you should pretty much dial the aggression back a bit once you go past the apex 👍
There's a few different pacenote structures used and each one has slight variations unfortunately, the one I've used is a direct copy from the Nicky Grist pack which uses 2 for a 90 degree corner. I originally started out in DiRT Rally and 2.0 a few years ago so was used to the Hairpin, 90, 1, 2, 3 etc structure but the way RBR works is a little different. There are other packs out there, notably Janne's, which offer different structures 👍 I've considered converting mine to a few others but it's a _lot_ of extra work 😅
I would LOVE Numeric C. Just letting you know :) For me these have the best audio/clearest voice from the ones I tested with luppis v3 notes. Btw: Sumpu???
Noted 😎 improving this co-driver pack is definitely on my to do list and hopefully it's relatively straightforward when I get around to it. All of the audio files will already be there but from what I understand I'll just need to modify the text/ini files to read the calls in a different order. As for Summpu, I'm not _entirely_ sure on the meaning but it's a Finnish word that was already included in Janne's mod and the Nicky Grist pack I based my notes on 👍 pretty sure it means caution/tightens on exit, there is something stopping you from taking the usual wide line out or it's maybe not a good idea to go super wide or full throttle until a bit later than normal.

This is awesome and I am driving so much better, but there is one callout I cannot understand. It sounds like "soopoo" or something like that. You can hear it at 4:18 with "5 right, soopoo"
I know this is a dumb question but what are you saying there LMFAO
Ah yes, the infamous "Sumppu" 😅 I've probably had more questions asked about that here in the comments than the pack itself, ha! It's a Finnish word that was included in the original voice files which I used as a reference and re-recorded when making this one. Basically it means 'tightens on exit' or 'danger on exit' and is a strong indicator that you can't accelerate out as you normally would, either because of a hazard or because the road quickly changes in the opposite direction. When you hear Sumppu you should pretty much dial the aggression back a bit once you go past the apex 👍
what is this map mod called?
This is the PS Valstagna stage 😎 one of the best out there (if you don't mind a few hairpins...)
@@DDFRacerSorry I meant the digidash with map, I don't see that one in simrallyfans launcher
@@avckubw938v1bnvowiqv Oh right, I get you now! That's a custom overlay I designed using SimHub 👍
shouldn't 90 degrees be 1 not 2?
@@DDFRacer oh I see, thx for the reply!
Id love to have a Square call
You're not the only one mate, so it's definitely on the to-do list 👍 but no ETA at this stage, got a few other things in the pipeline to get finished first.
