I found this piece quite by accident. I bought it for our New Horizons Orchestra and our director Julie did a phenomenal job getting us to play it just right. My husband would listen to me practice it. We played it at our December 2017 concert, 4 weeks after he died in front of me. I was able to make it to the concert in spite of my grief remembering how he enjoyed my attempts at this lovely piece. At the concert I felt his strong presence, his spirit guiding me as I played the second violin part, never as perfect as then, probably never as perfect again.
Such a beautiful piece today. We sight read this in class today and my teacher nearly cried because her father passed away at the beginning of the year (September). Just the name of this nearly made her cry. I'd love (and hate) to see what this song could do if we actually we're able to practice and perform this piece.
Seth Smith My orchestra teacher cried because he pulled this piece out to see if we could do it to honor one of the teachers who passed away...It's a beautiful piece and it was a lot for everyone to handle
Maddy McDaniel For real. We're actually playing this song at our Spring Concert, which will be dedicated to her father. She's gonna be a mess that night because that's also the night that she recognizes us seniors and she ALWAYS cries during that, because she teaches us from 5th grade and up
Im currently playing this song and I have to say that this piece is beautiful. Im okay with the recording (I've heard better). I just adore this song. Can't hear those violas though.... (I know the Viola part since that's what I am playing)
The Viola part is meant to be a more minor role. First Violin and Harp are the main piece, whereas Viola and Second Violin are supporting. Bass plays the typical role of being, well, bass, and the Cello section adds "the icing on the cake" as my teacher would say--not a lead but adding to the piece significantly.
I love that this piece was written for someone who died and that it continues to bring peace to those who are grieving.
