I played this song in chamber orchestra in 7th grade. I am a sophomore now in my high school’s symphony orchestra but this is still the best piece of music I’ve ever played. I am flooded with emotion every time I play and it just brings such a rush to me. This. This right here is the epitome of what orchestra means to me. I’ve had a roller coaster of emotions just like in this song. This is such a beautiful song I will remember forever. Thanks, Doug for such a wonderful composition. If you’re out there, thinking about quitting orchestra or your instrument, try to stick with it because you will one day find your across the wind :)
When I hear this song, I think of running through the woods with my friends, carefree. Just me, my friends and the forest. It just makes me feel so good inside, it just brings a smile to my face.😌😀
I played this song in orchestra back in 6th grade, and that was right before my big life problems started happening. So whenever i listen to this I remember the happy days.
I remember first hearing this in 8th grade and fell in love with it. I just graduated, and throughout high school, I’ve had the opportunity to play in different youth orchestra playing Shostakovich symphony no. 5, Scheherazade, Tchaikovsky romeo and juliet overture, yet, I always come back to this piece. It does not require immense difficulty or complexity to be interesting or beautiful. What an amazing piece
Through my journey as a musician, I remember this as the 1st piece that I have ever played in my orchestra.....It still brings back memories when I was a beginner.
this may seem morbid, but in my will, i will write that i want this song played at my funeral. i feel like it signifies a passing into the afterlife with god. you are flying with the birds up to heaven, and it’s such a wonderful song.
R2Catastrophic I'm playing this too but not for school, I'm part of a group out of school. I'm in such grade and I play second violin. It's not that hard but it's still fun :)
A truly amazing song. Our orchestra is great. I am going to ask if we can play this song for our concerts this year. I like the calm parts and then they jump to the melody. I can picture our conductor directing this song.
Donna Yocum Basses have a very important function in ensemble music - you're the foundation for the piece's harmony. But I try my best to give you some melody whenever possible.
Liam Fiddler Check out Samba Del Sol, Star of Valor, Unbridled, A Spark of Courage and Enter the Laureates (to name a few). And it doesn't have to be in a major key to be happy. I think of Argent Edge and Iroquois Journey as being rather joyous.
This sounds like ost from a Hallmark Family channel movie where some cute golden retriever puppies arrive at their new home and loved by little timmy, but then get they lost and into trouble, but then Boom saved! A-----nd ends with them playing with the family. Ah,happy ending.

Huh, makes me think of some boat adventure.
It sure does make me think of freedom and just being myself and being happy and i love it
Really? It makes me think of a flock of birds flying through the clouds

My favorite piece calms my baby when he cries
It also calms me down when I'm really hyper. This piece is amazing
It's an anime opening and ending combined.
this song is purely beautiful and so fun to play, and it always made me smile when i played it.💕💕💕
soooooooooooooooooooooo good, my big brother's orchestra played this three years ago
This piece as soon as it was handed to us in class sounded like some theme that would be in an anime to me.

IM A PROUD VIOLA! I love this song, and it does remind me of Mario Galaxy. Wish I played this in orchestra
@Krishna Dick Each instrument is great in its own way. There really is no best instrument (but orchestra instruments are better than band instruments)
Brings me special memories of 9th grade
This actually reminds me of something from Mario Galaxy.
omg! it does!
I agree
Agreed!

Playing this on bass and its so hard...😅🎻
We're playing this song in orchestra right now 😁
Madison Billedeau so am i
I played it 2 years ago too :3 We got to play on the other side of the country and it was so memorable!
I did this piece in 7th grade orchestra
omg same
CTheScienceKid its a hard piece
CTheScienceKid the slow part is easier, but the part with the fast slurs tripped me up. I played this last year
CTheScienceKid if you count the timing in your head it's easier
CTheScienceKid if you like this song, ask to play "today" by Robert Gardener and farandole and build me up butter cup in 8th year
Playing this song on cello is so much fun I loved this piece when I played it. It’s still one of my favorites. 💛💛
Me and my orchestra group are learning how to play this song
Lucky, advanced orchestra played it last year when i was prep🙁

Anyone else motivated by music? I am- and this is one of the songs :3
I'm learning this song in my orchestra :) I'm a second violin
I like to imagine a montage of a lively medieval town when I hear this piece.
This song is so amazing and I want the sheet music right now!😀😁
you can find it on jw pepper
You can find it online but if you wanted to print one, it would cost $50 and would come in multiple sheets for an orchestra
Just type in across the wind Doug Sparta pdf and you’ll find it for free. Printable..... FOR FREE
played this for an orchestra festival event, I can play the entire piece from memory. it's so fun

I play Bass so I'm Kinda forgotten about 😕 but I love it when I get melody for a first in forever😝

This is the only happy song Doug wrote. (That I've seen)
