Hands down one of the best, if not the best ride at the park. It is a spectacular coaster and I rode before they changed it's color theme from the old Top Gun days where they kept the seats and top art for the ride.
@spider0804 For me, it's based off of nostalgia riding it as a kid. I still find it an enjoyable coaster and I also think Railblazer is a godlike coaster with it being the first single rail coaster in the west. But it's more on nostalgia, nothing more nothing less.
I have a gold pass from california's GA, and I've been to this park so many times, ridden every single ride. This coaster is my favorite at the park, as it is so relaxing and smooth. Great ride!
I’m the biggest chicken when it comes to rides that go upside down or have many twists but this ride was a solid 10/10. Just went on it yesterday and it was so smooth and I felt very safe riding it!! You’ll regret not trying it out, just do it!!!
At first, when I saw that ride, I was scared as heck, and I thought I’d never ride it. But then, after I got off, it just happened to have become my favorite roller coaster I have ever written.
Guys, I’m a wussy but I recommend it! The ride looks terrifying in the beginning but once you ride it it’s really fun! You won’t regret, I hope. If you rode the patriot, it’s similar but this has more turns and is faster!
@@ASDPolitics you should go, and I recommend going on twisted colossus, riddlers revenge, scream, Batman, and when you get the chance if you go before me lemme know how good Wonder Woman is. I hope you go soon and crossing my fingers.
I remember I got really high one time in the parking lot then went back into the park and immediately got on this ride.... coming out of the first loop I almost blacked out LOL.
That’s because Canada’s Wonderland and California’s Great America were both owned by Paramount when the ride was called Top Gun for the movie and then both parks were sold to Cedar Fair in 2006 and the ride’s name changed to Flight Deck: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cedar_Fair#Properties
My friend and I discovered that if you start singing "Let It Go" as soon as the ride starts, you get to scream "LET IT GO! LET IT GO!" at the very first drop. You're welcome :)
I didn't know they changed the name of this coaster. Used to love the Top Gun theme, with music, dialogue, and jet engine sounds playing throughout the experience.
They changed the name when Cedar Fair bought the Paramount parks in 2007. Top Gun at Carowinds, Canada's Wonderland and Kings Island were all also changed to Flight Deck.
This used to be called Top Gun and it had theme decorations while in line. Maybe it still does for the new theme... But either way this is a great coaster. Top tier in California
When CF shuts down the park within a few years(the sale is already a done deal) rumor has it that flight deck will probably be relocated to Kings dominion here in Virginia probably within the next couple of years.
I had to google which came first, this one or the one at Canada's Wonderland. I didn't know...both were called Top Gun....I like the looks of this one, and over water. Our version is a tough one to ride with all the head banging.
When i finally rode this as Top Gun after the first loop it felt like my calf muscles were being ripped off the bone. Beyond painful and never felt that anywhere else. 2nd time was not as bad but same sensation. Never again.
Wasn’t this called Top Gun and painted black?? It was my favorite! When on it like four times in a row. I felt like I was flying! It was my first roller coaster too. It’s what made me become obsessed with them. Concurring that fear felt so good.
Welp if you are a every week visitor of great america like me you would remember what this ride used to be named. Vortex and instead of the tracks being red they were purple. "Ahhhh the good times"
I LOVE roller coasters but at some point im scared- trying to get the feeling of some of the rides just in case i go there with my friends after my big school SBAC test-
I rode this roller coaster in that same exact seat on the 30th of June 2024. amazing experience! about 10 years ago, I looked at this roller coaster and thought to myself that it was way out of my league and for that reason, when I returned 6 years ago, my father FORCED me to go on it as one of the first rides telling me that it was "one of the easiest" but then told me after I got off the ride that it was one of the scariest😂. I remember when loading asking a million questions out of paranoia and when the train finally started to move, I screamed "Help ME!" but I was helped in the sense that I gained confidence to go on more intimidating rides. after getting off , it became the most favorite ride in the entire park. too bad it is headed down to the scrap yard😢😭😥 , if only they could salvage this one roller coaster and move it to another park-they could replace Kong in Six Flags Discovery kingdom with this!

I’m never riding this roller coaster again! Last time I rode it back in July of 2021, it made me feel both dizzy and nauseous, and I could not stand straight for a good maybe ten to fifteen minutes. I’m gonna avoid it just for that reason.
It’s one of the shortest ones, but one of the most intense. I’ve ridden 11 B&M inverts and the only ones more intense than this are Batman: The Ride at SFMM and SFOG, Raptor, Montu and Chinese Fireball. This is even more intense than Afterburn.
