- Patriot, the first-ever floorless roller coaster at California’s Great America, opened to guests as a new coaster experience in 2017. With the ride’s track visible beneath riders’ feet, Patriot creates unique and exciting perspectives for guests throughout the ride. Patriot takes riders to a 91-foot height before plummeting them into a 360-degree loop at 45 miles per hour.
What I like about this ride is that it goes upside down and it’s floorless, yet at the same time, it’s kind of mild. It’s a great starting coaster for people who aren’t sure about inversions.
My cousin made me ride flight deck with him as my first inverted ride. I completely died at the drop and was screaming the entire time 😅
@@m0nochrome0 it's not that bad the second time around just letting you know
@@obeyhusky7354 I know! ive riden it for the 3rd time now. Its one of my fav rides now! along with railblazer. :)
Bruh, this comment is so true. It was my first loop ever!
It was my first coaster ever and it was fun and not scary
this ride is 10 times better than Vortex, much more comfortable and lots of fun, great change
Call me crazy, but I’m a sucker for standups, the ride is too tame without standup. Standup was sorta the main gimmic, without it it’s just a loop and a corkscrew, that’s it.
I agree, a lot of people hate on Patriot because there too spoiled with all these other floorlesses but it’s a pretty small park, they can’t expect too much. It is also very smooth.
Franklin, what I’m trying to say, is that vortex was better
Peter Shelton Vortex is better
The only problem I have with this conversion is that it’s incredibly boring
I am never gonna forget the experience i had with this ride my god! Recently me and my friends went to great america and this was one of the last rides we rode and we told my friend to put his hat in the cubby and the one time we didn’t as soon as we dropped i see his hat soar past us and at that moment they took the pictures and my facial expression was priceless
this ride made me get over my fear of loops
this ride got over my fears of rollor coasters
I’d definitely say that Patriot is a first timer roller coaster. It was my first roller coaster and while I was scared, it was still thrilling enough for me to have a good time.
I remember riding this when it was called The Vortex and it was a stand up coaster.
The only problem with this ride is that's too short. :) Lot's of fun, though
i love this ride sm its so smooth 10/10, if your that type of person who doesn’t like big drops or really intense roller coasters i recommend riding this one 🫠
This is one of my favorite b&m floorless coaster even though is a short ride I still love this ride
0:21 if you look to ur right you can see the old Tidal wave station or what is left of it
You're right! Miss that ride.
don't you mean left? -> or
No joke one time when I got in line for this I was the only one who got on for that ride lol
Got the whole coaster for myself haha
I hope you guys add the hyper coaster soon. It would be a awesome addition to the park. I was so excited when I seen Great Americas master plan a few years back. I hope you all still go through with it!
It may be delayed a bit now unfortunately because of the Covid 19 Pandemic, but it will still happen.
They’re gonna add a hyper?
@@beachboysswiftie it's a rumor that's been going around for years but it seems like something always happens to put it off. It was basically confirmed many of years ago when CGA put a "Master plan" out which was everything they had planned,or wanted to do at the park. In that plan one of the things they wanted to add was a hyper coaster. That was awhile back and it still hasn't happened. Also a new manager came in and from what I heard from other RUclipsrs. The new park president wants to focus more on entertainment. Some people think the master plan was shelved and others thing it was just put off. I hope it was just put off bcs that master plan looked impressive and would of made it such a better park than what it is now. I heard they were suppose to add a hyper in 2016 I believe but that didn't happen. The next rumor was that the B and M Giga, Orion from Kings Island was suppose to go here but they ended up sending it to Kings island were they added some feet to its height so it could become a Giga. Then I watched some videos were people now think it'll come in 2022/2023 but now it's looking like that might not be the case either. One of the Managers from CGA posted a pic on his social media showing a tractor with the wooden coaster Grizzly setting perfectlyin the background of the shot taken. The post says "Random Midway Construction". Something interesting is if you take the first 3 letters out of each of the 3 words it creates RMC. RMC or Rocky Mountain Construction is a company that turns old wooden coasters into crazy unique creations. From that post I personally think it almost 100% confirms that the next coaster will be RMC Grizzly and not a hyper coaster. That makes it look like it might be even longer than 2023 till they get a hyper. One RUclipsr has stated that Cedar Fair, the company who owns CGA wants to add no more than 1 coaster to a park ever 5 years, unless your Cedar Point which in that case they'll probably make exceptions lol. They also said from now on they wont be as likely to poor 30 million or plus into a new coaster. What I'm about to say is all my opinion but if the RMC Grizzly which I highly bet they will then it'll probably be quite a bit till we see a hyper coaster come here sadly. My predictions is,let's say they open up the new Grizzly in 2023 bcs it can take a couple years to make a RMC from what I've seen, and they wait 5 years to add a coaster then I'd predict their hyper to come around 2028 at the earliest. Hopefully they add it earlier than that if the hyper is still on the plate.
i don't like the fact of no inversions though, but B&M hypers are meant for speed, airtime, and faster turns, i guess that would be fun but i'm not so sure. IDK.
@@ev-x29284 I agree, Evan btw I know you from everyday of my life... isn’t that cool?
Fantastic B&M Floorless! Not their best Floorless coaster but still really good. Definitely a huge improvement from Vortex. More comfortable, smoother, and there is much less head-banging during the inversions! Overall great B&M Floorless Coaster
Flight deck is the best floorless coaster
Christopher Gomez wdym flight deck isn't even a floorless do you know what floorless means
Versity Parrot i mean there isnt a floor ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ he has a point
worst B&m floorless coaster, its boring, short, slow...medusa is 1 hour away and is ten times better
brandon dinh I kinda agree especially since I’ve gotten around to riding more, but it’s still a massive improvement from Vortex
0:43 anyone else notice the plane in the top right?
my first ever loop ride!!
the way that my friends had to lie about how slow this ride was to me in order for me to finally ride it. it gave me a headache with sorta ruined the rest of the day for me but omg i wish i could go on this ride for the first time again!
tbh ever since I rode this It was my favorite ride
Also me and my friend made a blank face for the photo
Bepis same my favorite ride 🤪
Bepis Are you sure you didnt do that cause it was boring as hell
Jacky G Your only ever one too I assume?
how is this your favorite when Rail Blazer is right next door 😂
I went on this a couple days ago. 💪
But then I jumped off before the ride started. 😱🐔🐔🐔🐔
I'm happy to report that I hopped on again on Monday and actually stayed on. This ride is so fun! Heck, I even rode Grizzly and Demon and thoroughly enjoyed them as well. I would've ridden other coasters, too, but I wore the wrong ear gear. Next year I'll be better prepared.
🎉😀🎉
This ride was my first looping ride. Perfect ride for that.
This is like the most mellow B&M coaster, perfect for first timers. also i miss vortex and it's stand up seats a bit
To whoever is scared of this ride, don’t be, you won’t feel anything. If you haven’t gotten on any major rides, get on grizzly or gold striker, those will really help you out.
U sure? 👉 👈
@@thelambkingyepady yep
Are you sure?
@@hellokittyac18 nothings going to happen, trust me.
I’m so gonna try this roller coaster next Wednesday when I go there with my youth group, to experiment if I can brave or conquer it. Let’s see if I’ll make it safely on and off this ride, or not.
I love this ride because its smooth, fun, and overall a good ride ^w^ 9/10 amazing ride
It was so smooth I loved it
I'm going Thursday and I just cant wait to get on all the rides
This ride is so fun but the vortex was much more scary because I had to stand up
I love this ride!!!
And still their is no over head cover at the station.

This ride is probably the best ride for the first time coming to Great America. Everything is perfect abt it besides your head hitting the restraints left and right but thats BARELY a problem
If you have never been upside down and don’t like speed is this a good first ride
Rode this on preview day, Really fun ride! Way Better than Vortex!
NathanPlayz-Minecraft and More! It's the same ride just renamed and painted.
@@airnation_85 you stand up on Vortex. You sit down on Patriot
@@Stagnant_Gravy And patriot has floorless trains
Hagan Werner yep.
Yeah I like patriot more too
I think despite this having a loop it was one of the tamer rides I went on at CGA
One of the first B&M's. So glad they revamped it though so it's not..... *painful*
Fun Fact, if you look around as you ascend to the lift hill, you will see Greased Lightning's old footers and station.
This used to be called Vortex. It was purple and yellow. Easily one of my favorites
Do you remember when it was green? 😂
smoother?
TheDeathSlayerYT Definitely
I've seen some guest facing videos of this ride, and it still is a head banger.
i agree...
No not smother
This has to be the most bizarre floorless layout I’ve ever seen
Funny story, for my bday my friend told me we were going. Point is, since he is a sissy, I went alone on this ride twice!!! 😂😂😂
Is this ride fast or is like the demon? (The demon looks slow for me)
i’m going here soon, is this more a joy ride or super scary thing
Its scary but tame compared to every thing else except the grizzly which is a family wooden coaster in the back
@@ql5481 i’ve risen the grizly, i has fun but the gold striker sucks
@@chillhuman306 personally I’m scared of roller coasters and this one was actually relaxing but a little thrill it’s my favorite ride
@@Andres-cc5su OK good to know thank u!
@@Andres-cc5su have u been on the flight deck?
The front is fun but it is a head banger the middle isn't like in the 4th row 👍👍
bella.m Rougarou (the other floorless from stand up conversion) is like that too, the further back you go the rougher it gets.
Can u feel the drop on this? I went to great America literally yesterday lol and faced my fears and went on grizzly (couldn’t feel anything but that could be because I was in the very front) I hate drops but everyone says this is chill and I really wanna try going upside down. Can you feel anything on this one or no and is it a good inversion coaster to start with?
this was my first ever inverting coaster :)
I am little and rode all of the roller coasters over there
Going on Saturday excited
So they Gave Vortex some new cars and a paint job? Groundbreaking!
MY GRANDMA LOVES THIS RIDE! SHE'S 89!
bro what
I love this ride
Me too!
Isn’t this the old top gun ride?
my hip started hurting after the first loop do you guys know why
I love CGA aka California’s Great America
This ride looks super slow on camera but it’s pretty fast in person love it😭😭
I thought i was gonna die mid ride cause this is my first roller coaster ride
Have you rode flight deck yet
That corkscrew has no right being that intense
My seatbelt came of on this my friend had to hold it down the whole time but like this was by the end so we were good but if it happened when I e we’re on the loops than I would’ve fallen
You don’t need the seatbelt it’s just a fail safe
that’s hella scary
lol i went on this ride yesterday and i kept hitting my head on the restraints
I hav been watching this ever since quarantine started and regret being a chicken the last I went and not getting on this ride..
If only i was tall enough :( im just a small 10 year old who ent to great america today
That has to be the best coaster at the park, hands down
one of the worst lol
i hope this comment is a joke, patriot is utter garbage
the station is literally straight outta RCT3
In the future I will build one like it but bigger and longer
They need to do this to the other Vortex. Then we need to somehow convince six flags to do this to Apocalypse and Georgia Scorcher.
OneAndOnlySound not Georgia Scorcher. It’s actually a good standup. Plus if it became sitdown it wouldn’t be as unique. It’s perfectly comfortable and smooth how it is
Well now Apocalypse is happening. So that’s cool. I actually liked it as Iron Wolf though, years ago.
DO NOT TOUCH GEORGIA SCORCHER, it is FANTASTIC! :D
Honestly I think the other Vortex is fine as is, too. It’s got a more interesting layout, isn’t as rough as this one was, and is increasingly unique with each passing year!
Yeah Georgia Scorcher is in the front of the park and barely anyone rides it, so there's definitely an issue, because the layout is way better than those b4 it. And it's honestly more comfortable than green lantern at six flags gadv (which can't be floorless since there already is one, can only dream for sit down. But stand up's are pointlessly uncomfortable to both the lower torso and headbanging. Georgia Scorcher isn't even headbanging. paint job and new trains, rebranding, would be great for the park. thankfully they are doing what they should've did to apocalypse when they transported it in the first place. that one was a real pain machine. Now if only they've put the new vekoma trains on more vekoma and arrow coasters we'd really be getting somewhere, such laziness to fix older but still solid coasters.
Why not convert Georgia scorcher to a floorless I never rode a floorless I heard they are rough
Did you mean to say "floorless I heard they are rough" or stand up? Not every floorless is super smooth, but living 30 minutes away from the first floorless, it's very smooth. Kraken, Batman-The Dark Knight, just ones I've ridden plently. The most uncomfortable floorless are ones that used to be stand up because there track is older. In general, floorless have better dispatch times, way more comfortable seating, and are pretty smooth models. Also since they are doing Apocalypse (renaming it to Firebird), it's all the more possible now.
I rode railblazer twice today
A ride not even being 100ft. just boggles the mind
I love this ride😍
Same!
it does not look scary but in person it goes so fast
It used to be to be a standup coaster
It's smoother than vortex ever was
If you count getting bruises on your head smooth
i put my head forward once, and my ears got gored
just keep your head back if you don’t want to die
It was closed both times when I went. :/
Nice B&M! Good job building reliable rides 😂
Omg through out the POV I thought the train was gonna valley
It is a shame that they never did this to the other Vortex, even now people are still riding it with solid ridership. The one on "Firebird" sadly couldn't have been as good because the ride was already rougher because of being transported, though I do think it's complained about a bit too much. If anyone really has always deserved it (b4 Green lantern got totally canned, should've never left kentucky kingdom or should've went to a different park) it's "Georgia Scorcher." For not much size it really has a fun, oddly unique layout but the seating makes pointless lines/wait times and an uncomfortable experience. Always found it odd too considering Georgia has been like on a streak of doing work on both park areas and roller coasters year after year since the "Blue Hawk" work (and now it's gotten more work and still just a paint job for Georgia Scorcher, c'mon guys).
if patriot was faster and longer it would be so much better
This ride is far louder now than in the video has horribly slow wait times makes my head want to burst open and my head almost bangs on the restraints every time
Keep your head forward when you ride. Same thing applies for Flight Deck
NorCal Thrills Actually I didn’t have to do that on flight deck. I kept my head back on flight deck after the first run because I had it forward and my head got thrown into the padding really fast.
thinking about the time I made a scene because I didn’t want to go on this ride and my friends were pulling me and I was crying hitting my friends
the ride wasn’t even scary.
This ride almost gave me a concussion 💀
Bring this ride to Knotts Berry Farm in a future expansion.
Not a scary ride at all, very smooth.

Worst but smoothest B&M floorless
very loud roller coaster i have to say

So bad of pacing
knockoff of the Worlds of fun one. Even the logo is the same.
Firebird is better NGL, The colour scheme sucks too like plain blue 🤮
Why is this Roller coaster small. Wait times should be 1 minute 😂😂. Wast of my money of a piece of shitty design.
Well, all they did was just repaint it and put new cars.
Truly the worst B&M ever built.
you didn't even ride it. it can be very intense in the back.
Who even invented standup coasters? It's such a stupid idea.
It's not a standup coaster, it's an inverted coaster.
