This ride does NOT fool around. It may look fast in this POV, but even here it doesn't compare to the real thing. It feels like a punch to the face. Multiple rides are required to fully process the experience.

I used to be absolutely terrified of rollercoasters until I went to Great America a couple weeks ago and this was by far my favorite rollercoaster there. I very much underestimated how fast this coaster was and how much videos don't show it's real speed I could barely keep my eyes open and the second time I went on it, it felt even faster. Definitely a 10/10 coaster, good for people who like a punch.
CGA in general is a great park for people to get over their fear of thrill rides
I dont really like this one, one time i went on it and it was so fucking bumpy i got a concussion on my head

Exactly. The wood construction makes the turns absolutely brutal. Fun, but pretty damn harsh. I remember being in line and thinking how tame it looked… lol
I almost broke my hip getting on this. I had to be wheelchaired out of the park after getting on this thing. I couldn't walk and it was my first ride. This ride is NOT for kids or older people. If you suffer from weak bones, any kind of illness or anxiety, this ride is not for you. I'm not kidding. This ride is no joke and will land you in the hospital.

Everything about this ride is aggressive. The turns, ups and downs. The first drop is something else. Highly recommend tho 10/10

Good to see an updated POV. You can definitely tell it's aged quite a bit. Looking forward to FINALLY riding this fantastic ride next year. (Also y'all should build a hyper and RMC grizzly, but those are a little longer term ideas).
@Roller coasters and more I mean, Orion was speculated to be originally for CGA. They can build a hyper rather easily since they don't really need a completely dedicated plot. They can build around and over buildings and walkways.

I just went on this ride today. I was terrified of roller coasters, so my boyfriend and his parents started off slow, but accidentally mistook this one as a slow one. Long story short, I lost one of my glasses’ lens, and I was walking around blind for the rest of the trip. XD I still had an amazing time, and recommend this ride to anyone, even if your afraid!
P.S. just put your belongings to the side EVEN your glasses, trust me. XD

we waited three hours in line (was going on my class trip to ga) in line for gold striker, and i put everything to side. my phone, glasses, everything. best decision ive made.

Hadn't been to CGA in 20 years and practically based my trip on this ride ( happened today July 11th 2021 ) Railblazer was cool but not as much as this monster. Rode Railblazer twice and Gold Striker 17 times ( Fast Lane helps ) Please oh please during the off season, retrack this because a smoother non jarring version would be more insane than it already is. Kudos to having this great GCI.

I remember going on this coaster when I was around nine years old. I didn’t know it was that fast and my dad was trying to get me out of going on it but I went on it. It was the best coaster I’ve ever been on. .
Best wooden coaster I've been on. The banked turns make it feel so smooth.
This ride is awful and rough. My grandma lost her teeth on it. She's 87.

I went on this roller coaster 2 times and it doesn’t look bad in the video but once you get on it, it’s insane. It literally feels like I’m flying and will fall off. I hit my knee the first time because the ride was so rough. But it is very fun, I would go again sometime.
Really sad knowing this ride isn’t going to be around much longer. As far as the park closing goes, this will definitely be the biggest loss.

They should consider re-tracking the ride because if you look side by side from the 2013 POV versus the one now It’s about 10 seconds slower than it used to be but I’m sure if they retract the whole ride and made it as smooth as it was back in 2013 I think it could still haul ass like it used to

I think the reason it’s slower is because this is probably the first test run of the day, and probably didn’t have any time to warm up so it’s going really slow. I do think this needs a retracking since it has gotten a lot rougher.
We can finally say it's getting retracked in April 2022!
This is my favorite wooden coaster, its pains me to know the future of my home park is now unclear. im gonna save this video so i have it when they eventually tear this marvel down.

I’ve been in this ride before for my 11th birthday and it’s very aggressive. It was so freaking fast that I kept bumping my head 😆 but it was sooo fun but the drop part was SCARYYYY

Never pick this as your first rollercoaster ever, i made that mistake and was holding on for my life and almost fainted

This ride is way too violent. I do NOT recommend it if you have heart problems, anxiety or are prone to seizures. I'm NOT kidding either. It's way to jolty, violent and extremely FAST. Your hip is gonna give way if you're at least 30 years old. You will have injuries afterwards..trust me. I ended up in the hospital after this ride and the park had to call me an ambulance. Big mistake getting on this thing.
FR first time I went on this it was fun and I was with Ymca sitting in from row and you do not know what way you are going it looks like your going straight
Well, I did picked this ride as my 1st roller coaster, and I had no idea that this ride is that fast. But I started loving it and rode this ride 5 times.
My first one was a kiddie one in planet snoopy called Lucy’s Crabby Cabbies
Hopefully GoldStriker received a lot of track work cause lately it never failed to give me and others a terrible migraine.
Ya, plus if you look at the wood from this POV and the last one in like 2015, the track has really changed.

@@AmusementLabs yeah no, I rode this on two trips, in 2018 and 2019, and I don't think all that was there.

Never went on this coaster my all time favorite at great America was the Demon up 10 stories then through 4 complete circles upside down best ride ever
Just rode this today. The word I used when getting off was "violent". Not sure how this camera was stabilized because it's a real shaker that feels like it could derail at the turns. Great fun, will ride it again. Tallest and fastest wooden coaster in NorCal. ❤

It’s the morning in Santa Clara probably only in the 60’s and an early empty test ride. I went yesterday and it hauled ass when I went on it. beat me up but it was such a great ride, shame I only got 4 rides total.

You forgot to mention the exact coordinates of the ride, and that it is located on earth, in this solar system. Even then I don’t think they will know what ride you are talking about
WHAT DOES RMC MEAN? RAPTOR TRACK AGAIN? IF SO, NO HERES A COUPLE REASONS WHY: 42”+ kids are looking forward to that ride, it’s a classic, and the difference in the track, the taller you have to be to ride. Btw I don’t want two rmc raptor tracks, I don’t like the fact of that, but here’s a suggestion, H Y B R I D, they could add inversions to it! Or they could remodel it as a hyper, I wouldn’t care wether they remodel it as a hyper, hybrid, or just leave it but please not a rmc! But rlly what type of rmc track?
@@Thethalassaphobians are you dumb? A raptor is a type of coaster, RMC’s single rail model. Of course they couldn’t turn grizzly into a raptor, that wouldn’t even be possible. Turning it into a hyper would be very difficult and I doubt they would do that. No one said turn it into a raptor, that doesn’t even make sense. We are talking about turning it into a normal RMC hybrid like most RMC’s are.

I fucking love this ride mannn! The drop in the beginning with the tunnel (makes it sound gnarly!), it’s fast throughout the whole ride, and there’s never a boring part in the ride. This ride is Goated. Gonna have to visit again soon fasho! Especially cuz I heard that Great America is closing in 2033 😢

When my cousins first came to the park and it was almost closing time there was no line for that ride so they rode it nonstop
I think the tunnel is the same, I looked at both pov's side by side.
Just got on it today and let me tell you the experience is out of this world but I enjoy it 🔥 definitely gonna do it again next time 💯

The video hides it, this ride is the grizzley on steroids. No breaks at all just breath taking speed the whole time. You will be letting out Rick flairs before and after wooooo!😎

They're going to tear it down. Paramount announced that last month. Too many lawsuits from injuries.

I hate rollercoasters but today when i was in great america, i was forced so when i went in this ride, i felt amazed and also terrified at the same time! The speed of this ride felt like you are getting punched to the face and the noise is very loud when riding on it but overall i loved this ride and will go on it again!
Its a damn shame this coaster will be gone soon. One of the best woodem coasters.
Fun fact: this ride goes FASTER as the day goes on due to heat expanding things, and it gets even more insane! So if you can, ride this towards the end of your visit.
I haven't ridden either of those coasters yet but I'm sure either this coaster or Thunderhead at Dollywood could easily be GCI's best.
Mystic Timbers is amazing
Yeah mystic is better IMO personally I prefer the more airtime focused ride of mystic timber’s to the laterals on thunderhead and gold striker.
I like Thunderhead better than Mystic Timbers. I rode Mystic like 6 times on my last visit to KI and didn't get any airtime on a hot day with full trains in any row. It was the biggest disappointment of the trip tbh. Thunderhead is great though. Even though it needs a retrack.

One one of my scariest roller coaster I have ridden I first scared that I would fall off the ride because I had troubles putting on the seatbelt even with my friend helping that has gone on this ride multiple times couldn’t get the seatbelt on me but thankfully one of the helpers helped me
this also happened to me because they were about to start the ride and i couldn’t get my seatbelt on but when i told one of the helpers that i needed help with my seatbelt he seemed annoyed :

I love great America it was my first time going we left on last Sunday July 8 it was worth the trip to come I went on this ride it was high and fun Next I went to demon ride, patriot ride, grizzly ride, I skipped rail blazer and flight deck I was nervous on those 2 but for sure next year I will go all rides in Great America!🔥
I did the same but my friends dad convinced me on railblazer and I convinced myself to flight deck. Railblazer is fun besides the drop. Flight deck was fun the whole way nothing scary

i went on gold striker on our 8th grade trip to ga, the wait was 3 hours, but it was SO worth it. i’m pretty scared of roller coasters, but this was awesome, i was next to my friend and we just held each others hand the entire time LMFAO, its really fast.

This shouldn't even be allowed for guests to get on. This damn thing nearly broke my neck. Way too fast and the turns are way too sharp. My hip almost gave out being on this thing. I will never get on this thing again.

I loved this ride when i was in middle school it was really fun but the turns are something not you should FOOL around
I wanted to ride so bad man, but it was closed for almost all the day I got there around 4:30 and it had 2 rides but closed, then it opened back around 8:30 but I was already about to leave 😢

I live about 45 min away from Kennywood. I live near west mifflin, about 20 min.
I havent been there in many yrs. Due to work, finances, life issues and minor gealth issues with bad knees and low back.

why do drops never look so steep on video? in real life the drop is longer and angled higher

It's going to be sooner. The park announced last month that due to several injuries, they are going to have it removed. Too many lawsuits concerning this thing. This thing has caused way too many hip/neck/back injuries ever since it opened. It's way too violent and extremely fast. It's not fun at all, it's just jolting and hurts your body.
