      This could’ve happened at 3:49
Lady: “No no no no no no no no, he wasn’t pushing out 2x4’s”
      Steve: “maybe a 2x6, or even a 2x8”
      Lady: “I don’t know what a 2x6 or 2x8 is”
Steve: “read the Massachusetts building code”
Lady: “what is the building code”
      Steve: “Google it”
Lady: “I have no internet, only have a landline”
      Steve: “You’re screwed mama”
Lady: “Ok, so you you want me to get internet?”
Steve: “if you have the money for it”
Lady: “i only have $1000 in my bank”
Steve: “Since you have little to no money, be a woodworker, since you only know what a 2x4 is, not a 2x6 or 2x8 or other woods”
Lady: “I failed in math class at high school”
Steve: “go back to school for algebra, calculus, geometry, trigonometry and measurement and go to college for carpentry”
Lady: “I’m too old to go back to school”
Steve: “Ok, i was just giving you advice”
Lady: “now please fix my toilet”
Steve: “there is nothing wrong with it but ok, i can check it”
      😂😂😂😂

The last time you flushed it, it looked like the chain was trying to get hung on the flapper. I'll bet they slam the handle down when they flush, the flapper flies up, causing the chain to get stuck under the flapper. The chain needs to be shortened a bit.

These modern toilets flush the bottom well but they don't flush the sides adequately. There's no whirlpool action like the old toilets. There's just a tiny trickle of water. Any paper stuck on the sides will not go down.

  • @Garth2011
    @Garth2011 Год назад +6

What happens often is the damn chain will get itself into a knot or hang up on the trip level hook and hold the chain "short" or open not allowing the tank to fill. Too much slack in the chain makes this occur. Best method to press the trip lever down and just hold it there a second or two then release it slowly so the chain doens't bounce around and get knotted.

At 9:30 you can see the plastic chain go to the side of the flapper. My moms toilet would do a similar thing the plastic floating chains can kink itself and get caught on flapper hinge. They said it would continue to run (flapper was up/do to chain) and would not flush because the chain would be caught on flapper at a wired angle. I think if you show them the proper position of the chain throughout the flushing process. Next time it happens and they take the lid off they will notice the chain is the culprit Probably kinked or stuck at the flapper
(I believe if you have to go back you should adjust the plastic chain or replace it)
This is why is wouldn’t flush. The water was draining and never filling the tank and the chain was stuck. I’m sure he accidentally unstuck the chain without knowing it. It can happen on any flush you’ll never know until it happens again.

North American toilets inately have small diameter bottom jets for a high pressure boost late in the flush. Smaller tanks cause toilets not to have enough volume to flush aggressively because the head pressure is lost by the end of the flush. The tank isn't even shaped square! It's like a cup.

Sounded like she may be in the early stage of dementia - they start to fixate on things and there is no way to get them off whatever it is (and don't try as it will only aggravate the situation). I'm glad it is you and not some shister she called. The difficult part is (to me) that in the early stage they may actually have seen an issue that no longer exists but can't let it go (the flapper may have gotten stuck, the "2x4" got jammed, etc. but the short-term issue becomes a perturbation and only gets worse.

Reason being is the cast iron pipes sagged with age and run 150 ft before going to the sewer so the water thinned out before the solids could make there way out causing a disgusting backup.
