This could’ve happened at 3:49 Lady: “No no no no no no no no, he wasn’t pushing out 2x4’s” Steve: “maybe a 2x6, or even a 2x8” Lady: “I don’t know what a 2x6 or 2x8 is” Steve: “read the Massachusetts building code” Lady: “what is the building code” Steve: “Google it” Lady: “I have no internet, only have a landline” Steve: “You’re screwed mama” Lady: “Ok, so you you want me to get internet?” Steve: “if you have the money for it” Lady: “i only have $1000 in my bank” Steve: “Since you have little to no money, be a woodworker, since you only know what a 2x4 is, not a 2x6 or 2x8 or other woods” Lady: “I failed in math class at high school” Steve: “go back to school for algebra, calculus, geometry, trigonometry and measurement and go to college for carpentry” Lady: “I’m too old to go back to school” Steve: “Ok, i was just giving you advice” Lady: “now please fix my toilet” Steve: “there is nothing wrong with it but ok, i can check it” 😂😂😂😂
The last time you flushed it, it looked like the chain was trying to get hung on the flapper. I'll bet they slam the handle down when they flush, the flapper flies up, causing the chain to get stuck under the flapper. The chain needs to be shortened a bit.
These modern toilets flush the bottom well but they don't flush the sides adequately. There's no whirlpool action like the old toilets. There's just a tiny trickle of water. Any paper stuck on the sides will not go down.
What happens often is the damn chain will get itself into a knot or hang up on the trip level hook and hold the chain "short" or open not allowing the tank to fill. Too much slack in the chain makes this occur. Best method to press the trip lever down and just hold it there a second or two then release it slowly so the chain doens't bounce around and get knotted.
I got to sleep at night. I love it. it's been awhile since I watched 1 of your videos. yeah I hear about all the scams that these contractors do to our elderly, what a shame. love your videos
Steve, i don't agree with criticism you received. You adjusted the water flow to proper level and flushed 4-5 times and it worked fine. You explained to her and showed her that toilet is flushing fine. You were straight and honest with her!
Hahaha i had a toilet that sometimes worked sometimea didnt. Turned out it had a drink coaster stuck in the trap and it was flipping around and was jamming/ un-jamming.
My grandma had a house with 4 different showers but she never used the one in her bedroom because it was small and she was scared to fall down, well one day she complained to me her shower drain gurgled when she flushed the toilet, I asked her when she last used that particular shower or ran water in it, it had been months, I ran the shower for like 15 minutes flushed the toilet again and it was fine, I explained to her she had to run that shower once in a while to keep some water in the trap
You got to love them, the older folks, that's what I do Steve, work at an elderly 64 unit complex! I need to be reminded that I'm dealing with older people 😂! Great video though, ☝️👍🫵💥💯
These are the type of people that no matter how hard you try to help they’re just not satisfied. You’re so hilarious, when you talk about the blockage that might’ve happened this morning. My ex-husband used to put out big chunks of poop every time he went to the bathroom, so, when you were telling her about that, I just had to laugh. As The People said, keep smiling, and, just keep up the great work.❤
They are used to their old non water saving toilet that got replaced. And that's a rental/house flipping special kind of toilet. Low amount of water makes it a two flush toilet.
At 9:30 you can see the plastic chain go to the side of the flapper. My moms toilet would do a similar thing the plastic floating chains can kink itself and get caught on flapper hinge. They said it would continue to run (flapper was up/do to chain) and would not flush because the chain would be caught on flapper at a wired angle. I think if you show them the proper position of the chain throughout the flushing process. Next time it happens and they take the lid off they will notice the chain is the culprit Probably kinked or stuck at the flapper (I believe if you have to go back you should adjust the plastic chain or replace it) This is why is wouldn’t flush. The water was draining and never filling the tank and the chain was stuck. I’m sure he accidentally unstuck the chain without knowing it. It can happen on any flush you’ll never know until it happens again.
these new toilets that so called save water when you have to flush three times as apposed to the old ones with one flush and the good old float in the tank, is crazy I remember back in the early energy crises in very early 70s people were advised to put some bricks in the toilet tank to save water but still get the power of the flush
You can't explain anything to this lady, clearly. She just won't have it. Charge her six grand for a quick adjustment to it, and then she probably would be happy. Insane.
It sounded like what the man was describing was the flapper was not closed and the plastic chain did not extend all the way, so it couldn't fill, then he played with it and the chain unkinked.
WOW! JUST WOW! Saint Steve to the rescue you really have a gift of patience with these older customers. It truly is a great gift you have. God bless you Steve 👏👍💯
North American toilets inately have small diameter bottom jets for a high pressure boost late in the flush. Smaller tanks cause toilets not to have enough volume to flush aggressively because the head pressure is lost by the end of the flush. The tank isn't even shaped square! It's like a cup.
If that woman paid 6K for that vanity install i am in the wrong business. As a custodian in a school i learned about Sloan Optima flush valves this week. Would not flush. Changed batteries 3 times did nothing. Changed the sensor, and all it did was click. Had no diaphragm on hand, so i tried tapping on the pipe with a screwdriver which made it flush.
I don't think she's pushing out bricks. These old folks are simply not used to these "Green New Deal" toilets. When I flush my 1975 Borg Warner Toilet, the tide actually goes down in the Gulf of Mexico. I would never buy a new water efficient toilet!
That’s funny…my parents had a Borg Warner toilet, which you can see on my channel. Probably used 5 or 6 gallons of water per flush, but it rarely clogged
I had a customer like that , I said to them that their medication they were taking was making their shit hard .. I was augering their toilet every week , they finally agreed to get a pressure assisted toilet installed, no problems for months , when they started clogging that toilet I left my toilet auger at their house and taught them how to use it .. have a nice life ! LoL
Sounded like she may be in the early stage of dementia - they start to fixate on things and there is no way to get them off whatever it is (and don't try as it will only aggravate the situation). I'm glad it is you and not some shister she called. The difficult part is (to me) that in the early stage they may actually have seen an issue that no longer exists but can't let it go (the flapper may have gotten stuck, the "2x4" got jammed, etc. but the short-term issue becomes a perturbation and only gets worse.
You got the patience of a saint lol, i hate dealing with senile old people lol. I used to do residential alarms and the elderly people could never learn how to use the system, i would repeat stuff 10 times and would not soak in lol. Had one couple straight up tell me they wont use it, but they got it for the discounted bundle.
Water isn't supposed to come out of the top of the fill valve. Water may not have come out when she tried flushing due to an intermittently failing fill valve.
My job there would have been to inform the customer as best as I can, on how the handle and flapper work together. Teaching them about how the flapper may get stuck open. Sounds like they were trying to explain that scenario off a open flapper
@@maintenanceman1015 I have no issues with certain low flows. Especially vacuum assisted ones. But at work I’ve had to swap out 1.5 gal flush diaphragms with old 5 gal ones. Reason being is the cast iron pipes sagged with age and run 150 ft before going to the sewer so the water thinned out before the solids could make there way out causing a disgusting backup.
Steve, you could have easily made her happy by installing one of those “American Standard “ tall toilets that is capable of flushing golf balls. You know that’s what would have made her happy and she probably would have paid you well for your work. That pos water saving toilet she has is junk!
ok....you need to tell her that when you arrived ...found out the tank does not have enough water...solid waste takes more water to flush than just regular toilet paper. You fixed it by raising the water level. :) you may need to prove your case by taking a dump and see if it actually flush...paper test is too easy. once in a while my toilet will need a second flush to get it through :)
That's hilarious Steve! Should have dropped a 10 pounder in there to test it real good. One of my toilets won't flush right on occasion and the flapper chain gets twisted on itself. Shit happens
When she was a little girl she probably didn't have a toilet. Maybe she had an outhouse and there is no flush in an outhouse. So next time tell her husband to build her an outhouse in the backyard and she won't have to worry about the flush anymore!
I've had this type of thing happen, but a way worse version.. an old couple, clearly on Psych meds.. the call was that there was 1/2" of water on the entire bathroom floor, the toilet keeps overflowing etc... Got there, bone dry...perfectly working brand new Toto Drake..
The flapper is defective. Water is getting passed it and into the bowl. When she went to flush there wasn't enough water in the tank to flush the waste. She used the toilet before the flush valve filled the tank. Lady thinks her toilet doesn't flush.
There are youtube's testing toilet brands. You would be surprised how poor some flush. A plumber should know the best performers and suggest a replacement. This older couple needed piece of mind with one toilet in the house
She wants you to tell her sweetly that everything will be okay, and if she has any problem at all you'll come right over. It's just fear of the worst. It happens as we age.
Steve: "He was probably pushing out some 2x4's". 😂
"Did you push out a 2x4?" "No!"
This could’ve happened at 3:49
Lady: “No no no no no no no no, he wasn’t pushing out 2x4’s”
Steve: “maybe a 2x6, or even a 2x8”
Lady: “I don’t know what a 2x6 or 2x8 is”
Steve: “read the Massachusetts building code”
Lady: “what is the building code”
Steve: “Google it”
Lady: “I have no internet, only have a landline”
Steve: “You’re screwed mama”
Lady: “Ok, so you you want me to get internet?”
Steve: “if you have the money for it”
Lady: “i only have $1000 in my bank”
Steve: “Since you have little to no money, be a woodworker, since you only know what a 2x4 is, not a 2x6 or 2x8 or other woods”
Lady: “I failed in math class at high school”
Steve: “go back to school for algebra, calculus, geometry, trigonometry and measurement and go to college for carpentry”

Steve: “there is nothing wrong with it but ok, i can check it”
😂😂😂😂
Put in one of those power flush toilets that "blows the shit into next week" as you said 🤣
Difficult yes. But it's comical the way you tell it like it is! Thanks for the laugh and another great video.
I love how you just tell it like it is. most plumbers wouldn't say "you probably put a giant shit in it" to a customer 🤣🤣🤣
The last time you flushed it, it looked like the chain was trying to get hung on the flapper. I'll bet they slam the handle down when they flush, the flapper flies up, causing the chain to get stuck under the flapper. The chain needs to be shortened a bit.
Thats what Im thinking. They were trying to explain it that the water kept filling and flapper didnt seat right.
You have the patience of a Saint!!!
I’m laughing out loud!!!
I have had this same customer but it’s so funny to watch from over your shoulder 😂😂😂
These modern toilets flush the bottom well but they don't flush the sides adequately. There's no whirlpool action like the old toilets. There's just a tiny trickle of water. Any paper stuck on the sides will not go down.

This video should go viral. I sent it to all my friends.
I know people like this. Exhausting to deal with and never happy with anything you do to help. Just keep smiling.
It sounds like Ducky went down the hole. Grandson just smiles!
Hi Steve! Your work is tremendous!
I got to sleep at night. I love it. it's been awhile since I watched 1 of your videos. yeah I hear about all the scams that these contractors do to our elderly, what a shame. love your videos
This is hysterical..
I like how you called her out on her huge dumps 😂 And what kind of neighbor comes over to complain about loud toilets?
I think she needs emergency mental health evaluation
These are the types of older folks that really get taken advantage of by some crooked plumbers. and other scammers .
shes lost her marbles
Steve, i don't agree with criticism you received. You adjusted the water flow to proper level and flushed 4-5 times and it worked fine. You explained to her and showed her that toilet is flushing fine. You were straight and honest with her!
what criticism? who criticized Steve?
Hahaha i had a toilet that sometimes worked sometimea didnt. Turned out it had a drink coaster stuck in the trap and it was flipping around and was jamming/ un-jamming.
Come on people have some compassion and tolerance for this senior citizen. Remember we all have to get old sooner or later. PEACE❤
Steve knows how to charm thw ladies take notes boys. Lol
Title of video should be: "BIG FLIPPIN LOG FROM HELL"
🤣

Yes, big chunks.
is that why you guys divorced? he was blocking up the toilet with big logs? lol
Bless you for dealign with this. I know you love and respect seniors but jesus christ.
They are used to their old non water saving toilet that got replaced. And that's a rental/house flipping special kind of toilet. Low amount of water makes it a two flush toilet.
I have had a few that the front holes on rim wash plugged up and the tp would stick and not go down just cleaned the holes and worked like new

Lol 😂 never a dull service call , hello !
I'd put a longer overflow tube in there so the tank can hold more water to flush longer.

Pushing out some 2x4's. NONONONO
Never heard that before!
Had a lady once complaining her ussy got sprayed when toilet was flushed true story
"he's probably pushin' out some 2/4's or somethin'!" love it
Betcha her husband was round the corner Laughing his Head off!! LOL
If she would have called a certain big name plumbing franchise, they would have sold her a new toilet for $800-$1,000.
Elderly folk get a little odd when they get into 80's.. gotta have patience and try not to raise your voice at them. Just explain and move on.
You can't explain anything to this lady, clearly. She just won't have it. Charge her six grand for a quick adjustment to it, and then she probably would be happy. Insane.
I think she likes the old style toilets on the water levels higher
It sounded like what the man was describing was the flapper was not closed and the plastic chain did not extend all the way, so it couldn't fill, then he played with it and the chain unkinked.
I have never laughed so hard!
What she needs to do is build an addition on the house for a 2nd bathroom !
Is the bowl fill tube working?
I deal with this kind of thing frequently, In fact today. People dreaming up problems and sounds they think they hear.
Should have readjusted the gravity in the toilet. Lmao great video. Some people are never happy.
WOW! JUST WOW! Saint Steve to the rescue you really have a gift of patience with these older customers. It truly is a great gift you have. God bless you Steve 👏👍💯
Sounds real professional pal
bloody hard work both of them!
We all have to deal with older people like that unfortunately
Steve, you're quite the lady's man.
North American toilets inately have small diameter bottom jets for a high pressure boost late in the flush. Smaller tanks cause toilets not to have enough volume to flush aggressively because the head pressure is lost by the end of the flush. The tank isn't even shaped square! It's like a cup.
Steve you're doing a great job with an elderly woman I think a little dementia has got her you're doing a great job
It could be that one of them just got diagnosed with a severe heath problem. So it's way easier to focus on a toilet.
Hey Steve and Miss Molly! Workin’ again y’all. 👍👍
time marker 2:02 You wouldn't do that to any person.!
Best regards to you, Miss Molly and the family.
Ya gotta love them Old folk's.👍😺
If that woman paid 6K for that vanity install i am in the wrong business. As a custodian in a school i learned about Sloan Optima flush valves this week. Would not flush. Love this guy. Very close to God, doesn’t need to go to church much.
I don't think she's pushing out bricks. These old folks are simply not used to these "Green New Deal" toilets.

That’s funny…my parents had a Borg Warner toilet, which you can see on my channel. Probably used 5 or 6 gallons of water per flush, but it rarely clogged
everybody is wired differently, but i would of replaced the the flush valve, put a longer one, or maybe a flapper that stays open longer. just saying
Steve, I love how you north east guys are matter of fact blunt. Too funny!
I have learned a lot from Steve how to deal with some of my difficult customers.
Sounded like she may be in the early stage of dementia - they start to fixate on things and there is no way to get them off whatever it is (and don't try as it will only aggravate the situation). I'm glad it is you and not some shister she called. Bring Molly in let the old lady pet her, and futz with the toilet, bill them for your time.
It didn't work because you are shitting bricks........love it!
At least you get to leave the job. Her poor husband has to deal with this everyday. Ya know, for better or worst.
What a Great Title
You got the patience of a saint lol, i hate dealing with senile old people lol. You're a good man, Steve. "....Pushing out some 2x4's"😂😂😂
The husband’s in there playing with it because she’s complaining nonstop to him when Steve’s not there.
Oh, he's playing with it in there...and the fill valve too.
Steve is the man.
That's a triple flusher. Need to flush it 3 times to get the poops down lol
Hello Steve!
The tank is not even half full. It needs new guts that can raise the level another couple of inches... 🙂
Has a 1.6 gallon toilet to save money but you have to flush it twice to drain the toilet. Old toilet did 3.5 gallons.
@@maintenanceman1015 I have no issues with certain low flows. Especially vacuum assisted ones. But at work I’ve had to swap out 1.5 gal flush diaphragms with old 5 gal ones. The guts are working just fine. Steve adjusted it within 3/4 of an inch of the spill tube. That's as high as you want it.
Steve, you could have easily made her happy by installing one of those “American Standard “ tall toilets that is capable of flushing golf balls. You know that’s what would have made her happy and she probably would have paid you well for your work. That pos water saving toilet she has is junk!
I was laughing so hard at this video, I feel bad 😂😂😂 funny as shit
Toto Drake for the 2x4s !
One of them tried to flush the 7th fleet this morning🤪
Must’ve been a nighty big FRITZ she pushed out! I nearly died laughing. She’s a crazy one mamma!
Pushing out 2x4s...😂😂😂
Big logs..
Howdy Steve and Molly
Wow, should sell her two 5 gallon buckets with lids. One for each one of them.
ok....you need to tell her that when you arrived ...found out the tank does not have enough water...solid waste takes more water to flush than just regular toilet paper. You fixed it by raising the water level. :)

I've had customers like her, they call I ignore the call, not worth the money at that point, my patience only goes so far
You should have a sideline with a flyer from a pot-a-pottie company. They rent for about a $100 a week. It could be the back up for the back up.
The flapper is defective. Water is getting passed it and into the bowl. When she went to flush there wasn't enough water in the tank to flush the waste. She used the toilet before the flush valve filled the tank. Lady thinks her toilet doesn't flush.
Had a lady go to the hospital for 5 days came home accused her son of lowering the toilet . 😆
you have to have a lot of patience with old people
maybe the water dept or someone shut the water off to make repairs in the neighborhood
i think i have that same toilet in basement maybe they just pushed it too hard or something and chain got tangled or something.
The flapper probably got caught on the chain and didn't seal, when it didn't work.
Pushing out some 2x4's LMFAO
There are youtube's testing toilet brands. You would be surprised how poor some flush. A plumber should know the best performers and suggest a replacement. This older couple needed piece of mind with one toilet in the house
