Theory: Johnny Zest's real name was Malcolm before Nancy and Geoffrey kicked him out and renamed their second child after him. This would explain why the Sims 4 is SO different, having evil traits(after all wouldn't you be mean if you learned you were born and named just to replace someone else?) , meanwhile Johnny Zest and Sims 3 Malcolm are both "ambitious" and have other generally nice traits. Although Sims 3 Malcolm was a bookworm and "Johnny Zest" dropped out of school, Malcolm was often ignored by his mother, meaning he may have lost interest in traditional things like school and taken up trying to be funny and loud to get her attention. Somewhere along the way he realized that even though his mother still couldn't make the time of day for him, he enjoyed being funny so much that he traded books for laughs.

This is also my personal head canon. I'm pretty sure TS3 Malcolm's hair is also closer in color to Johnny Zest's than TS4 Malcolm's.

Considering Bella and Mortimer are both about the same age as Malcolm in Sims 3, that actually makes a lot of sense.

The whole thing revolves around Johnny. Lemmie 'splain...
Johnny, still a teenager, decides he wants to become a comedian for a living. Geoffrey wants to see his children become successful, and isn't thrilled by his son's aspiration. The road to stardom is an arduous one, and neither talent nor hard work is a guarantee of success. He'd be more willing to let it slide however, but Nancy is having absolutely none of that. There's no way the heir of the Landgraab family is going to make a mockery of their name. Landgraabs are kings, not jesters like the Altos. They argue about it again and again until one day the yelling is particularly loud, maybe some furniture gets tossed, and Johnny takes off on his own. He moves in with an aunt and uncle outside of Oasis Springs while he finishes school and then strikes out on his own to follow his dreams. They're poor and life is hard, but he's alive for the first time. He's no longer judged for his love of making other people laugh, and the crushing weight of Nancy's constant pressure to be perfect has lifted from his shoulders. Johnathan Landgraab has died, but in his place Johnny Zest is born. It's at this point where The Sims 3 takes place. Now...
Angry and despondent at the loss of her heir, Nancy's darker side begins to take hold -- the part of herself she channeled to become so successful in business. Cold, calculating, and without compassion. Her previously legitimate real estate dealings start to lean into greyer areas of the law, and before long she's using her massive bank accounts to launder money for the mob. Malcom, grieving the loss of his big brother, beset by puberty, and being heavily groomed by Nancy as the new heir to the Landgraab legacy, becomes increasingly spoiled and mean. The once sweet and loving child learns to wield money and influence like a sword and shield to cleave through his enemies and fend off the repercussions. Meanwhile, Geoffrey can practically feel the change in his wife, radiating from her being every time he lays next to her in bed. Sliding into the sheets at night is like opening the freezer door. Worse still, her new business associates seem about as legitimate as a five simoleon designer handbag. His son is changing too, and certainly not for the better. He starts to keep a closer eye on Nancy, partially because he cares and he's worried about his wife, and partially because he thinks she's up to no good. Once he learns about the true nature of his wife's new business partners, he knows what he has to do. Nancy nearly had a stroke when Geoffrey told her he quit his high paying job as a doctor to enroll in the police academy. He still loves his wife, she's the mother of his children after all. But just because he won't help put his wife in jail doesn't mean that protection extends to the mob goons she deals with. He'll take them down one at a time if he has to, but somehow he has to peel these leeches off of his wife before she gets in over her head.
Time goes on, Geoffrey rises in rank at his new job, finally becoming a detective. Having the brains and education to become a doctor is a boon in most any career, plus he seemed to have a knack for knowing when and where to be to catch low-level mobsters doing less-than-legal things. Nancy has been busy as well, using her power and prestige to earn the esteem of the /real/ power players in the criminal underworld. As he makes his way to the middle of his professional ladder, she nears the apex of hers. Nancy was ready for the big leagues -- mob-run casinos. This new opportunity to make loads of money forced the Landgraab family to move, and what's the best place for a wealthy family to live that's also near lots of casinos? Oasis Springs, of course. Nancy assumed it would take a lot of convincing to get Geoffrey to move, especially with the tension his new job had caused in their household, but Geoffrey was oddly excited. What she didn't know is that he'd been doing some digging in search of his estranged son, and had found Johnny was living there. Geoffrey hadn't told Nancy of course, since she refused to even speak her son's name since he left, but as a father, he hoped to reconnect with his oldest child. So the Landgraabs pack their things, sell their mansion, and TP the Alto's yard on their way out of the neighborhood. Begin The Sims 4.
Will Nancy continue to rise to new heights of wealth and power, or will she fly too close to the desert sun and go down in flames? Will Geoffrey be able to bring back his wife from a life of crime, or will his pursuit of her mob associates cause her to also be put behind bars? Johnny zest might not have been mentioned at all in the Sims 3. But there are definitely little hints that the producers were thinking about a fourth family member. For example one of the dining tables has four chairs, one of the tables outside has four chairs, the movie room has four chairs, the bar has four chairs, and one of the bedrooms has the exact same colorway of Johnny's s outfit in The Sims 4.

After seeing this I used MCCC to "fix the wrong" Johnny is officially back on the Landgraab's family tree in one of my save files and he has become a famous comedian with a beautiful wife, who has helped him reconnect with his family. Nancy and Malcolm have been a bit standoffish, but Geoffrey is happy to have his first born back in the family.

Confession time: I got TS4 on sale and never liked it. Whenever I say I'll play the Sims I refer to Sims 2 or Sims 3. 4 isn't technically bad but its biggest weakness is the fact that 3 had an open world and all those options to change your furniture, clothes and so forth.

I've played all Sims versions and Sims 3 was a special kind of rough. I spent so much time playing Sims 2, but I guess it's what you know and love growing up as a kid that ties you to the game
like, i love the sims 4 and all... but this just shows how much less effort(?) they put into sims 4 😅
This has nothing to do with effort, but time. The Sims 3 was built upon the same foundation as The Sims 2, which made things indefinitely easier for the developers (and is also a major cause of its terrible performance), while The Sims 4 was built from the ground up. That they had to scrap almost everything they had worked on for the original version of Sims 4 when EA decided that a multiplayer Sims wasn't that great of an idea after all, didn't help.

If you play The Sims 2: Bustin' Out, Malcolm Landgraab is also a bit of a shit like his Sims 4 counterpart. The plot of the game is him basically being the landlord of the entire town and repossessing items from every household. You're the main character that's helping them out and your end goal is to live in Malcolm's Mansion.

A theory: Malcom in the sims 3 is actually "Johnny Zest," and then they had a second son and when they disowned "Johnny", they renamed the second son Malcom to make them feel like they hadn't lost their eldest child, which made new Malcom resent his parents and become evil??
Or, in my sims 4 games at least, Nancy is known to have her fair share of men. If I go onto their family after playing another family for a few sim weeks she always has other relationships going on. So what if she got pregnant and had a secret son but didn't raise him, but when they disowned "Johnny" they adopted the other son so it looked like Malcom never left!?

A Thought: Maybe Nancy did something to the Alto family in TS4 which could explain why she became a criminal, why “Malcolm” turned evil when he grew up, and why Holly Alto is the only Alto in TS4 and why she she hasn’t been placed on a lot.
Also it could explain why the Landgraabs have changed from their more traditional styled home to something more modern (because on the Sims wikia i think says something about the Landgraabs hating how the Altos want to modernize everything).
But who knows I’m probably just looking waaay too deep into this lol. This is a good video and I would love to see the Caliente family next please 🙏🏾

The Landgraab's and my Sims 3 family have a pretty rough history with each other that I most definitely didn't initiate by coming into their home and starting fights with Nancy Landgraab because I didn't like her hair.
Since Malcolm is a child in ts3 and Johnny was most likely a teen, Nancy kicked Johnny out for quitting high school. That is why he isn’t seen in the household in ts3.
Conspiracy:
Nancy & Geoff left their lives in Sims 3 because Nancy saw an opportunity to take a lot of money from her business so when the cops got close, they moved to another country... Johnny wanted to turn them in and that’s why they disowned him and turned Malcolm evil because he feared the same would happen to him. Nancy became a high ranking criminal with the organization that she originally stole money from because of her cookie cutter image and Geoff is working as a detective to make sure the locals never hear about their past! Johnny followed in hopes of saving Malcolm but without the Landgraab money, he can’t return to his previous home and is stuck close by watching their families evil past take over Malcolm’s once bright future.

The Sims 3 timeline happens before the Sims 2, and the Sims 4 is a separate, unrelated, alternate timeline.
Malcolm is younger though. I understand that it was a separate timeline, but before they revealed that I thought it was just weird that in The Sims 3, Malcolm is about a quarter way through being a teen when Mortimer ages up into one, while Malcolm is younger than Mortimer who is now an adult. Personally, I think the alternate timeline thing is just a lazy way to cover up their many, many mistakes

I don' think it is the same one. The sims 3 is blonde and lighter skin. I think it may just be a coincidence. They never made any big deal like the did with the others in Get Famous that were from older Sims games. I could be wrong, just my opinion.

Sims 3 released in 2009, takes place 25 year prior to sims 1, so it takes place in 1975 and I did notice that most of the houses and the sim's dressing style in the game actually had the 1970's feel, not including the appliances in the house which can vary...
I once played with them in sims 3, and I literally had been playing for two hours at most and Nancy caught on fire from being outside for too long right in front of Malcolm. Chaotic to say the least.
oof, you make me feel old... my first sims game was The Sims 1 and The Sims online. Then I moved on to The Sims 2 in middle school. I remember begging my parents in High School to buy me The Sims 3. When I finally got it I refused to play it for almost a year because it was so much different than The Sims 2.
Oof same - thats how I have been about every sims game except urbz as well as the ds games, wanting to wait to play 2-4 until after a few years after release.
Maybe the sims 3 Malcom is Johnny zest and he just changed his name but then they had another son (sims 4 Malcom) and named him Malcom so no one would know how much of a failure Johnny was
In my opinion this just shows that the Sims 3 is a better game than the Sims 4 overall

I’m playing with the Langraabs currently. Nancy left her man for my sim. They now have a lovely daughter named cherry, and my sim gets to live in a massive house that he didn’t have to pay for!

I had the sims bustin out when i was 7 . I am now 26 and I've played EVERY single sims game there is . Its so crazy how they have all of these mods now ! and the graphics now are soooo awesome !
