It is interesting that noe can have both single and dual stage airbag in the same car across europe /us... I'm trying to find av newer style steering wheel for retrofit, but need single stage airbag... Do you have the partnumbers for those 2 airbags?
if you want to use double stage airbag on the single stage airbag system car, you must disconnect the seconde connector (green color connector) and stay only th yellow color connected, i thing it will work too! ;)
LOL! I just read your post on e90 regarding the steering wheel, If it wasn't for the fact that you said you got the wheel from Puerto Rico, I wouldn't have made the connection. Right now, I'm looking for an airbag for a 2011 e89.... ridiculously hard, no aftermarket as far as I can tell and ebay only has prior to 2009. If you have any suggestions, that'd be great.
This is not about wiring rather coding the JBE to match the part. Even still you have to acquire a JBE that came from a parts car with the shift paddles then code it to your car after installing the JBE. That catch is that new JBE must also include ALL the factory options that are in your car. The E90s and current BMW cars are a bit of a coding and parts nightmare! I didn't even bother.
does the JBE need to be from an e90? I'm hoping to put this wheel on my 2011 335d and want to make sure I know what I'm doing before starting the project. Thanks for all the content by the way. Learned a lot from your channel!
Do you still have this single stage m-airbag? I would like to buy it, if it works with my 2012 F30 320D. I have a M Sport Steering Wheel without the airbag.
olaf2046 You right. I want to change the steering wheel of my Ci 2000 but the Msport wheel were dual stage :( and my is single stage sport wheel. But no problem. Thanks!
Thanks so much for explaining the double airbag. I BOUGHT a 2005 Chrysler Crossfire basically a SLK Mercedes and like you I wanted to use the Sporty Mercedes steering wheel. Well the wheel fits but the center airbag is a single stage the airbag in the newer 2008 Mercedes has the double airbag well so guess I gotta put the old airbag in the newer airbag support plus this new steering wheel had the audio and Bluetooth stuff. I can't understand when Mercedes built the Crossfire on Germany why they didn't have same option for the same yr cars. Mercedes gave Chrysler all the old Mercedes technology but charged almost same price for the Crossfire as they did a medium priced SLK. So that's why the Crossfire didn't make it . This was an expensive flip for Mercedes. I always wanted a Mercedes so guess the Crossfire is my closest chance of owning one . But thank you Dr explaining the double plug on airbag. Wonder if they were worse together to go off same time the dash lights may not come on. Just a thought ?????
how do you retrofit a two stage bag to one stage bag that came with the car? i have -98 car with 1 stage bag and i want m sport steering wheel but its 2 stage :(8
@@e36fanatics I did it a long time ago and there are videos with info about that. I just remember at that moment that there were two wires, brown and green and each one was for for 1st or 2nd stage of airbag explosion. You retrofit connecting the correct wire to have the maximum inflation in case of accident.
Good explanation :)
What about triple stage?
So if I buy a euro wheel can I use a dual stage us spec airbag?
You could just recode the ACSM module🤦
I don’t follow your solution the physical connectors are different between the airbags and the car. Not sure how coding would fix that.
Did you get the steering wheel control to work?
Hope you can answer:)

fyi, dual stage are not used in all bmw's after '98: up to '17 in the X3 cuv is single stage!!!
Can x5 e70 upgrade to z4 e89 steering wheel? Thanks! Your amazing nice video .
YES! Actually you can upgrade the E70 to the E89! Vice Versa!
0LAF2046 thanks man , I need to learn the coding now since the e70 doesn’t have paddle shifters .

Did you wire the paddle shifters to work? If so how? Or did you not have to do any mods?

no. I sold it earlier in the year.
Its intersting! I tought that the single stage airbags stops to came in cars about '00-'01 cars..
In the USA BMW didn't use single stage after 2000. I believe the law went into effect before that but BMW didn't catch up until the early 2000s

Where do u buy the steering wheel?
Thank you bro
How can you blame ebay for you not reading that it was single stage, not a dual stage? That's all on you.
