  • B-roll footage has the SECRET Number ONE tool......... A question in a comment on another video asked what is the MOST used power tool I had in the sSMART tool trailer was. With some investigation, I found 5 of the most used tools and NUMBER 1 is really not a shocker (at least to me!) - STAY TUNED for the B-roll footage for the last two which are really the NUMBER 1 tool.

I will say without a doubt li-ion batteries are tools as you and I absolutely need them to get work done. I am building designing out a trailer now and the main area I focus on is power consumption and distribution with the onboard Li-Ion battery bank.
If li-ion batteries didn’t exist I don’t think ai would be in the career path I chose. Cordless tools make handyman and contracting extremely convenient.

Great comments and observations Richard! My "A-ha" moment about the battery that made the the B roll a thing, was as I started to put the tools away- the obvious necessity of the battery hit me like a brick so...back on the camera came to mention my Li-ion revelation!
Looking forward to your trailer and will be paying close attention to your power options. I am hopefully 2 years out from a new trailer build and want to incorporate self sustainability with on board power options.
      Thanks for commenting!

M12 surge is definitely my most used power tool. Oscillating tool, 6 1/2” circular saw and drill are up there too.

Thanks for commenting Gregg! I just got an M12 surge compliments of Renovations and Repairs YT channel give away! Very cool that it is your go to number 1 tool. My impact is certainly mine. I agree on the usefulness of multitool (oscillating). I count that with my #2 choice of things that cut. Thanks for adding your tool choices to the conversation.

I am a "Weekend Warrior" and my most used tools are my cordless Dewalt grinders...even more than my drills.

Very cool! I have my own 60V and use it for tile and for metal cutoff and for cleaning masonry. What are you using your grinder for?

If you're considering batteries, then the question is what size do you go to the most? Let's keep it to 20V tools just since that tends to offer more range - from the 1.3Ah up to 10Ah. Although, a secondary question would be what FlexVolt batteries you use most with 20V tools and which tools?

Great comments! I almost always have a 20V battery at a 6aH rating on my common tools. Since I purchase more 6ah, it is probably the go-to because odds are it's what I would have on the tool anyway. For 60vflex, I have six 9ah and only one 6ah, so I know what battery will be on a 60v tool. Great extension to the video topic! Thanks!

I know some people who have a spectrum of batteries and seemingly grab them at random. Personally I'm like you, I have a pair of 5Ah 20V and 9Ah 60V batteries that are my go-to batteries and a DCB1112 charger that typically charges them faster than I can drain the second battery.

I stopped at the 1:11 mark to guess or share my top 5 most used tools.....not just cordless....just to share.
    As a framer:
    1. Hammer (Ti-Bone 15 oz curved axe handle)
    2. Tape Measure
    3. Pencil/Pen/Marker
    4. Milwaukee Impact Driver
    5. Makita corded circular saw
    5. Nail Gun (Max SuperFramer)
    5. DeWalt 12" corded SCMS
    What?

That is great! Love the list and agree with it! When i am framing or trimming then I would also include a nail gun! Great list. I have a final tool video in this mini 3 vid series about tools that posts tomorrow about my top hand tools as a carpenter. My list again, is similar!
Thanks for the comments and the list!
