That cream-colour gear oil is a definite indicator of water in the gear case and that calls for a lower unit seals rebuild. If it’s a salt-water runned motor, you may meet with stuck components while disassembling but bite the bullet, do it and extend that motor’s life span an additional 20 years. Stay safe and be merry !
It’s not always easy to find parts for the old engines. Normally I would use Facebook. Find me on Facebook messenger and write to me there. Poul D Frosch :-) Then I will try to see if I can help you
hello, question from ignorance, I have a 30 mariner, I would say that it is from the same year as yours, question: do these engines come with an alternator, to charge the battery? the battery... and I have to start the rope.. Can an alternator be retrofitted? Or do I simply have to charge the battery, and then place it in the boat... I am writing to you from ARGENTINA...
There’s only one way to find out check how many cabels going from under the flywheel Normally if it has you can find two cables that not all attached to anything
@@King-Frosch. thanks. We can’t get the lower unit off no matter what we do. Engine is great but no impeller so not cooling the engine. Any idea how much to what this repaired ?
@@jayph77 I sold this one as spare parts because of the same issue that I couldn’t get the lower unit off… I have used a little crane to pull apart another engine. You can see that in a video about a Yamaha 30 hp.
Your Outboard is BOTH Long & Short Leg ✔ NICE ✔ There is a Short Section of Leg Above the Gearbox, Un-Bolt / Remove the Gearbox, Then Un-Bolt / Remove the Short Leg Section, Then, Put the Gearbox Back In, You Now Have a Short Leg Outboard ✔ Very Versatile.

Hi Sir I wanted ask what year is your motor?
Its was a 1972 as far as I remember
Those things don't mess around. The tiny Mariner I had powered the mirror along nicely 😅

Your Gearbox 100% Does Have Water In It.
