Without a doubt, pretty much anything from Come From Away does it for me. Prayer is one of the most beautiful pieces ever written IMO, both from a harmony perspective and the meaning behind it.
I adore the entire "Les Miserables" soundtrack, but "One Day More" gives me chills every time I hear it, and I try, and usually fail, to sing every single harmony! 😅
I saw it on Broadway and I think I cried my way through most of it. In the early 90s Empty Tables was the elegy of the AIDS epidemic and even the opening bars catch in my chest.
The first time I heard “Will I?” on some Rent production in my country, I cried. Especially because there was also the on screen subtitle. Reading the lyrics just hits you hard
Do You Hear the People Sing? is just the epitome of chills for me. And as I was raised on a capella music in church, I am game for just about any music that fits that genre.
The Les Mis moment 'take my hand, and lead me to salvation' with Leah Salonga, chills every single time. I adore that musical, and have many favorite songs. But that one moment is just an ear-gasm.
"Prima Donna" from Phantom; "Lily's Eyes" from Secret Garden; “Too Much For One Heart” from Miss Saigon; "Ragtime" from Ragtime; "Into the Fire" from the Scarlet Pimpernel.
Come From Away is amazing, from the opening beat to the closing screech. The part that always gives me goosebumps is "somewhere in the middle of nowhere." I will turn that song on just to soak up the harmonies.
Come From Away the most underrated musical and deserves so much love. I’d say “38 Planes (Reprise)/Somewhere In the Middle of Nowhere” would be my pick for the harmonies
"Home" from Beetlejuice. Lydia singing out for her mother, begging not to give up hope on her dead mother even standing in the Abyss of the Afterlife...it just leaves me drained after taking me on an emotional ride. And it's beautiful, a child in desperate need growing strong on the memories as the song climaxes.
Les Mis blows me away every time. Got to take the hubs and 14yo son last month and they both LOVED it! ❤ "On My Own" and "Bring Him Home" always make me ugly sob lol
"Ragtime" has one gorgeous harmonic moment after another as in "On The Wheels of a Dream" but when the entire ensemble sings the title song from the show, it is theater magic.
I am a TRUE Broadway fanatic! I love how guys keep coming up with interesting topics. I would have NEVER thought of "best harmonies" and I LOVED THIS!!!! Thank you!
I feel like "I Heard Someone Crying" from The Secret Garden should have been included in this list. It sadly gets left out of a lot of videos about musicals on this channel.
Ragtime. First time I remember getting chills while seeing a show and knew Broadway was and will always be my passion. But everything else on the list I agree with.
I get it may not be the most spectacular song, but “Once and For All” in Newsies gets me every single damn time! When they come into “There’s change coming once and for all” in perfect harmony, CHILLS!
My particular song from a musical that isn’t a harmony but a solo, is “Bring Him Home” from “Les Miserables”. I just wept uncontrollably when this is being sung. The older I get the more it resonates.
There’s a musical called the Scarlet Pimpernell and the opening song tilted “Madame Guillotine” sends chills down my spine because of how good the harmonies and singing is.
"Will I" from Rent will always give me chills and bring me to tears. The desperation and loss of hope. Loneliness. Then with the uplifting ending hope returns.
Those you've known Heart breaking and then hopeful and strong, with that 'You watch me ,just watch me,l'm calling and one day all will know...' The voices of the three leads from the original cast together are wonderful I cry and have chills everytime The end of Hamilton is a super close second
Miss Saigon is overlooked again. Bui Doi should be on this list. Miss Saigon should be on many other musical lists but seems to always be overlooked or MsMojo and Mojo don't like the play.
What gives me chills are Hamilton and Fly by Night. From Hamilton it’s Quiet Uptown, Dear Theodosia, One Last Time and Who Lives Who Dies Who Tell Your Story makes me cry 😭
I was about throw hands until I saw your #1. I knew it had to be there somewhere, and when it didn't even get an honorable mention, I was ... perturbed, shall we say. It is _such_ a spine tingler, and in context of the story, the live production version I was lucky enough to see was just awesome. So glad it got the recognition. ❤ Another one I'd have liked to see here, even though it is only a very simple, two part harmony, is "For Good" from _Wicked._
This list was definitely skewed to more recent shows. I was confident that "Make Our Garden Grow" was an obvious no. 1, only to find it ignored. Also, the harmonies in "We'll Catch Up Some Other Time" from "On the Town" are exquisite, tho not as loud as the choices on this list. The opening of "Ragtime" and the ensemble "Till We Reach That Day" are grand (and "Reach That Day" is also heartbreaking).
You did a great job! I'd consider Shrek-- "Who I'd Be"; Wicked, "What is this Feeling"; Legally Blonde, "Omigod You Guys"; Bye Bye Birdie, "Ed Sullivan "
Although my experience watching actual musical shows are limited I'm glad to see two of my favorites were chosen. Sunday which literally made me shake with so much goose bumps all at once. I'd never experienced such sensations. Then the rumble from west side story which was so thrilling in the culminations of 5 parts coming together.
Who Lives, Who Dies, Who Tells Your Story from Hamilton Time echoes throughout the ensemble... Eliza misses Alexander after being apart from him by 50 years and when her time is up, he's right there waiting for her and they're together at last
I really wish "Shadowland" was included in the 2019 remake of "The Lion King"! Beyonce would've won an incredible job singing it! Also, "Aida" is a great, underrated Disney musical that's way overdue for a film adaptation!
A Step Too Far is great, but Dance of the Robe has some insane 6-part harmonies that definitely should have earned it a spot on this list. I completely agree that it’s overdue for an adaptation!
The Song from a Summer Day from "The Most Happy Fella" is one the best choral harmonies in Broadway song. It does not get much recognition. "My Fair Lady" eclipsed "The Most Happy Fella" in popularity. And This Is My Beloved from "Kismet" is exquisite. I wish you had gone further back in time. Perhaps you should devote a section to 20 Exquisite Moments from the Golden Age of Broadway and include those and others.
I would have chosen either Do You Hear the People Sing (from Act 1) or One Day More from Les Miserable but still not a bad choice. I'm also glad that A Step Too Far from Aida got an honorable mention. I was fortunate enough to see the show back in April 2001 and got to watch Heather Headley, Adam Pascal, and Taylor Dayne (Sherie Rene Scott's replacement) perform that song.
Although I’m not a huge Pasek and Paul fan, the ensemble harmonies in “Ralphie to the Rescue” in A Christmas Story Musical still give me goosebumps. Honestly an underrated adaptation.
I did in fact get goosebumps repeatedly while watching this, and also started getting vaguely teary eyed around Fun Home and just when I thought I'd maybe started to pull it together during Once you hit me with the freaking Les Mis finale and it was all over for me. Just sitting in bed openly weeping at a Ms Mojo list. That's cool I guess. Anyway some of my favorite harmony moments I kept thinking of while watching this (oops this list got much longer than intended): - the a capella verse of Morning Glow from Pippin - the end of the I Love You Song from 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee - the last verse with the counterpoint parts that make me legitimately emotional in Fantasies Come True from Avenue Q - What I Did for Love from A Chorus Line, especially when the key changes and there's that chord that resolves so beautifully - Forgiven from Jagged Little Pill. Just absolutely obsessed with this arrangement and with Elizabeth Stanley's performance. Also shout out to the harmonies in That I Would Be Good, too - the amaaaazing dissonant chords in Natasha and the Bolkonskys from Natasha and Pierre - every second of When I Grow Up from Matilda - for some reason I'm such an enormous sucker for the song Take it From an Old Man from Waitress and I love the gentle backup harmonies in it, I think they - a lot of moments in Next to Normal but the stand outs for me being I Am the One and Light - honestly so many moments in The Flesh Failures/Let the Sunshine In from Hair, but particularly the a capella ending from the 2009 revival version that was staged with the reveal of Claude... oh no... getting feelings just thinking about it. Look I'm a sucker for a dramatic a capella moment!!! I started this list there and I'll end it there lol
A good list with some of my faves in there. Though I reckon All Good Gifts and By My Side from Godspell, with their stunning harmonies, should rate a mention.

You Will Be Found has moved me like no other musical anthem.
Bui Doi from Miss Saigon
Without a doubt, pretty much anything from Come From Away does it for me. Prayer is one of the most beautiful pieces ever written IMO, both from a harmony perspective and the meaning behind it.
"Shabbat Prayer" from "Fiddler On The Roof". Makes me cry every time I hear it.
I adore the entire "Les Miserables" soundtrack, but "One Day More" gives me chills every time I hear it, and I try, and usually fail, to sing every single harmony! 😅
It’s so hard not to want to try! It’s the moment the whole show reaches that fever pitch and everybody wants to be part of it!
Mine is empty chairs at empty tables! 😁
Listen to “Demain” that is the original version from the 1980 French Version
Empty chairs at empty tables Les Mis gives me chills every time. Heck that whole production gives me chills.
if we're talking harmonies, "Turning, Turning" just kills me
I saw it on Broadway and I think I cried my way through most of it. In the early 90s Empty Tables was the elegy of the AIDS epidemic and even the opening bars catch in my chest.
“Sunday” sung in honor of Sondheim’s memory by an entire choir of Broadway cast members gets me every time.
Ohhhhhh yes I occasionally go back to that video
And the emotional introduction by LMM. I can usually hold it together until we get to 'parasols.'
The Bells of Notre Dame from The Hunchback of Notre Dame gives me CHILLS because of how amazing the harmonies are.
If it had been given the chance on Broadway, it would've definitely been on this list
Same here! Especially the reprise/finale version, it is beautifully arranged
Come From Away FINALLY GETTING THE BIG LOVE IT RICHLY DESERVES!!!!
ABSOLUTELY! LOVE COME FROM AWAY!!!
Said the same thing. COME FROM AWAY SHOULD OF WON THE BEST MUSICAL TONY IN 2017
It’s actual pandering trash and you should feel bad for liking it. For real.
@@solarmaru49 explain? How is it pandering?
@@solarmaru49 have you even seen it?
The West Side Story harmony has been giving me chills since it came out in the 1960s..love!
The entire score of Come From Away should be on this list. Nice to see this brilliant show getting some love
Lea Salonga and Ruthie Henshall's voices blended so beautifully in that version. I agree, it's such a beautiful harmony ❤
"Prima Donna" from Phantom; "Lily's Eyes" from Secret Garden; “Too Much For One Heart” from Miss Saigon; "Ragtime" from Ragtime; "Into the Fire" from the Scarlet Pimpernel.
Lily's Eyes 😭
In his eyes from Jekkyl and Hyde ❤
@@OlaOla-ct4nu Jekyll and Hyde has SO many songs with great harmonies. I'd also add "His Work and Nothing More", "Facade", and "Take Me As I Am"
Secret Garden and, Scarlet Pimpernel - absolutely.... and "Heart," from Damn Yankees
most of the music from Phantom and Secret Garden are like that, to me. but it's impossible to list all the shows that would fit .... just so many
Sees Ramin in the thumbnail…automatically clicks and thumbs up
Of course...it simply must be done. 😀
The incomparable Ramin. No better Phantom.
I just shouted yay and proceeded to click
Finale B from Rent ALWAYS brings me to tears.
same
Come From Away is amazing, from the opening beat to the closing screech.
Come From Away seems like such a strange premise to do a musical about and yet...it works. Not only does it work but it works pretty spectacularly.
Literally cannot listen to Prayer without crying. Cesar Samayoa who played Ali was incredible and being Muslim myself it really hit hard.
The key change in Once and For All is just *chef's kiss*
Excellent pick for #1!! The multiple languages coming together in prayer is beautiful.
"For Good" from Wicked not even making the Honorable Mention?? Shocking!
Home is a solo. It doesn’t have harmonies. The ‘has’ in the background isn’t really a harmony.
"Morning Glow" from "Pippin" . Those harmonies still give me the chills.
YES! so gorgeous
Les Mis blows me away every time. Got to take the hubs and 14yo son last month and they both LOVED it! ❤
"On My Own" and "Bring Him Home" always make me ugly sob lol
I had a feeling something from Come From Away was going to be #1. And as soon as Prayer started, so did the tears.
"Ragtime" has one gorgeous harmonic moment after another as in "On The Wheels of a Dream" but when the entire ensemble sings the title song from the show, it is theater magic.
Will I from Rent always gives me chills. The amount of layers to the song as well as the haunting melody are incredible.
I agree with you!
In my opinion, EVERY brilliant musical has a number like this.
Will I
The song is heartbreaking, especially when the people who are dying or surviving from HIV/AIDS 😢😢😢😢😢
"Make our Garden Grow" from Candide
"Impossible Dream - Reprise" - Man of La Mancha
"Guenevere" from Camelot
I’m a simple woman… I see Ramin I click
But no Ramin...
Your #1 pick is spot on.
Any Rent song is heart wrenching ❤ Love every single song!
I'm so glad you talked about the show Aida, it is a very good musical that is not talked about very often.
I am a TRUE Broadway fanatic! I love how guys keep coming up with interesting topics. I would have NEVER thought of "best harmonies" and I LOVED THIS!!!! Thank you!
I love a good harmony so so much, Finale B in Rent gets me every time. How I wish I could have seen the original cast of Spring Awakening live.
You convince me. Time to listen to Come from away another time. And cry in 7 independent places...
I think the pro shot is still available on Apple TV.
I feel like "I Heard Someone Crying" from The Secret Garden should have been included in this list. It sadly gets left out of a lot of videos about musicals on this channel.
Honestly - Lily’s Eyes ALWAYS gets me 💜
Another excellent choice.
Who I’d Be from Shrek the Musical. It never fails to give me chills.
Ragtime. First time I remember getting chills while seeing a show and knew Broadway was and will always be my passion. But everything else on the list I agree with.
The final minute and a half of "Esmeralda" from The Hunchback of Notre Dame Act I is like. Huge.
tenors working overtime 🙏
Who Lives, Who Does, Who Tells Your Story always WRINGS every tear and every last emotion out of me!!
I started ugly crying as soon as it popped up 😭😭
I was not expecting come from away as #1, I’m seeing the show, and the heading to Canada and Newfoundland for my graduation gift from my parents.
I get it may not be the most spectacular song, but “Once and For All” in Newsies gets me every single damn time! When they come into “There’s change coming once and for all” in perfect harmony, CHILLS!
Shadowland continues to be one of my *very* favorite musical numbers. I love that it puts words to the sorrow song from the original movie.
These harmonies are pure magic, giving me goosebumps every time!
'Flying away' is my favourite musicals song. I love 'Fun Home' so much
My particular song from a musical that isn’t a harmony but a solo, is “Bring Him Home” from “Les Miserables”. I just wept uncontrollably when this is being sung. The older I get the more it resonates.
Who lives who dies who tells your story. Happy wednesday afternoon, Emily. Take care and God bless you. Greetings from Colombia to you as well.
Thank you for putting “Prayer” at number one! It’s one of the songs in Come From Away that every time I hear it I get tears in my eyes
The most emotional moments in shows are done with great harmonies.
Les Miserables, do you hear the people sing? Is it for me.
"Make Our Garden Grow" from 'Candide'
I just teared up thinking about that harmony
Absolutely. Highlight of ‘Maestro’
There’s a musical called the Scarlet Pimpernell and the opening song tilted “Madame Guillotine” sends chills down my spine because of how good the harmonies and singing is.
I’m so happy “Once and For All” made it on this list, even in honorable mentions. It still gives me chills each time I hear it, even now.
"Seize the Day" and "Once and For All" I could listen to over and over and over for the rest of my life and be happy. SO gorgeous!
"Will I" from Rent will always give me chills and bring me to tears. The desperation and loss of hope. Loneliness. Then with the uplifting ending hope returns.
come from away absoulutely deserved the top spot. also the fates harmonies are always so good
Those you've known
Heart breaking and then hopeful and strong, with that 'You watch me ,just watch me,l'm calling and one day all will know...'
The voices of the three leads from the original cast together are wonderful
I cry and have chills everytime
The end of Hamilton is a super close second
At the ballet not being mentioned 😢breaks my heart
Miss Saigon is overlooked again. Bui Doi should be on this list. Miss Saigon should be on many other musical lists but seems to always be overlooked or MsMojo and Mojo don't like the play.
Heck yes
What gives me chills are Hamilton and Fly by Night. From Hamilton it’s Quiet Uptown, Dear Theodosia, One Last Time and Who Lives Who Dies Who Tell Your Story makes me cry 😭

Another one I'd have liked to see here, even though it is only a very simple, two part harmony, is "For Good" from _Wicked._
I don't know if it can compete with the full ensemble numbers, but On the Willows from Godspell is just stunning and chill-worthy.
What about “ By my Side” from GodSpell?
beautiful for sure
You did a great job! I'd consider Shrek-- "Who I'd Be"; Wicked, "What is this Feeling"; Legally Blonde, "Omigod You Guys"; Bye Bye Birdie, "Ed Sullivan "
I was going to mention "who I'd be" from Shrek. That ending note always gives me chills.
Absolutely LOVE the harmony in "What is this Feeling" ...but I wouldn't say it gives me chills.
Wicked needed an honorable mention at least 😮
My Top 4
1. Sunday
2. Do You Hear the People Sing (Reprise)
3. Prayer
4. Who Lives Who Dies...
K, how is "I Know It's Today" from Shrek: The Musical not on this list... it slays me EVERY TIME!
Those final two harmonic notes as they sing "Bobby" in the first two minutes in Company - total freaking magic.
One Day More is far more powerful then Do you hear the people sing. It builds perfectly.
I saw this on Broadway... it was stunning.... Mandy and Bernadette...
The last 45 seconds of “One Day More” in “Les Mis” when they all sing together gives me the chills.
Almost everything on this list is modern (even West Side had a recent remake). I would include "Sunrise Sunset" from Fiddler on the Roof
"Anatevka" haunts me every time.
Although my experience watching actual musical shows are limited I'm glad to see two
of my favorites were chosen. Sunday which literally made me shake with so much goose
bumps all at once. I'd never experienced such sensations. Then the rumble from west
side story which was so thrilling in the culminations of 5 parts coming together.
Quartet At The Ballet and Stay, I Pray You. Both from Anastasia. Absolutely haunting and they both never fail to give me the highest of chills.
For me it’s “The Old Red Hills of Home” from Parade. When the company comes in at the ends the chills go from top to bottom it’s beautiful.
I see Ramin Karimloo in the thumbnail I click the video... and then get disappointed when he doesn't appear in the video :(
Come From Away! For harmony, Prayer is amazing. And pretty much anything from Les Mis…
Who Lives, Who Dies, Who Tells Your Story from Hamilton
Time echoes throughout the ensemble... Eliza misses Alexander after being apart from him by 50 years and when her time is up, he's right there waiting for her and they're together at last
I’d like to add “I am the One” reprieve from Next to Normal. So chilling and heart breaking.
@@joshkoplow4148 I agree that "Dance of the Robe" is an excellent musical number!
Another vote for Dance of the Robe
The Song from a Summer Day from "The Most Happy Fella" is one the best choral harmonies in Broadway song. It does not get much recognition. "My Fair Lady" eclipsed "The Most Happy Fella" in popularity. And This Is My Beloved from "Kismet" is exquisite. I wish you had gone further back in time. Perhaps you should devote a section to 20 Exquisite Moments from the Golden Age of Broadway and include those and others.
Well, anything sung by Ramin Karimloo or Philip Quast does it for me.
Aida getting the recognition it deserves 😍👏👏👏
Sorry, but Le Mis is by far No 1.
Although I’m not a huge Pasek and Paul fan, the ensemble harmonies in “Ralphie to the Rescue” in A Christmas Story Musical still give me goosebumps. Honestly an underrated adaptation.
12:56 - the beginning of my favourite part of this whole list
Thank you for including Shadowland! Those harmonies are AMAZING! Its easily favorite song from The Lion King musical.
Anyway some of my favorite harmony moments I kept thinking of while watching this (oops this list got much longer than intended):
- the a capella verse of Morning Glow from Pippin
- the end of the I Love You Song from 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee
- the last verse with the counterpoint parts that make me legitimately emotional in Fantasies Come True from Avenue Q
- What I Did for Love from A Chorus Line, especially when the key changes and there's that chord that resolves so beautifully
- Forgiven from Jagged Little Pill. Just absolutely obsessed with this arrangement and with Elizabeth Stanley's performance. Also shout out to the harmonies in That I Would Be Good, too
- the amaaaazing dissonant chords in Natasha and the Bolkonskys from Natasha and Pierre
- every second of When I Grow Up from Matilda
- for some reason I'm such an enormous sucker for the song Take it From an Old Man from Waitress and I love the gentle backup harmonies in it, I think they
- a lot of moments in Next to Normal but the stand outs for me being I Am the One and Light
- honestly so many moments in The Flesh Failures/Let the Sunshine In from Hair, but particularly the a capella ending from the 2009 revival version that was staged with the reveal of Claude... oh no... getting feelings just thinking about it. Look I'm a sucker for a dramatic a capella moment!!! I started this list there and I'll end it there lol
Come from away!!!!
Definitely the Fates in Hadestown! Just saw it last week and their “who are you” in Wait for Me most certainly gave me chills!
A good list with some of my faves in there. Though I reckon All Good Gifts and By My Side from Godspell, with their stunning harmonies, should rate a mention.
Nailed it with this one!
A couple more I like: For Good, from Wicked. In His Eyes, from Jekyll & Hyde, and I know it's Today, from Shrek.
The Flesh Failures/Let the Sunshine in from Hair always brings tears to my eyes.
Right This Way.... oh yes! I love every bit of that musical. As far as a harmony I really love, Now from Dr. Zhivago is ::chef's kiss:: !
Requiem from Dear Evan Hansen has the most beautiful harmony I've ever heard!
Very surprised 'The Color Purple' starring Cynthia Erivo, Jennifer Hudson, and Danielle Brooks didn't make the list.
Ms Mojo hasn't ever heard the Color Purple reprise!
Once and For All will always give me a goosebump should be in top 10 but im glad it gets an honorable mention
Tonight Quintet.really great. LEONARD BERNSTEIN. STEPHEN SONDHEIM
The final "Dream the Impossible Dream" from "Man of La Mancha"
Make Our Garden Grow from Candide
Til We Reach That Day from Ragtime
The Gods Love Nubia from Aida
Or Dance of the Robe from Aida
@habeashumor9814 maybe not for harmonies but for impossible belting? Heather is unbeatable
