- My Mazda Bongo (Ford Freda) has been losing Power Steering Fluid and I haven't been able to find it. No oil on the drive, nothing! So I use UV dye to find the leak and repair it for pennies saving me £250.

Excellent fix Steve! Not too difficult either. I wonder how many other vehicles have suffered similar issues?😊😊
great job ....perseverance always pays ...and thank you for sharing your vid...
Thanks again, great video. I have a slow leak of my Bongo steering fluid. You are way above my skill level so I'll leave it to someone else to fix. Keep them coming.
Thanks Nigel, worth telling your mechanic about this fix as it may save you the cost of a new pump 👍
Well found! Good use of the uv die. If using clean fluid and having cleaned the top the risk of contamination is minimal. A few years ago I was trying to find a leak and it was an aluminium manifold that was or had become porous. Used a sealing paint and it’s still holding fluid.
Hi Steve, I watched your video after searching for 'Where is the power steering fluid?' I found where the fluid is located, bought the correct fluid for the Bongo & now no more noise when I turn the steering wheel. I wanted to see what you were doing & how you fix the leak. That was very cool! I hope mine is not leaking, if it is I can direct my mechanic here in Australia to watch your video. Cheers, Mate! Deb in Australia with the 2001 white Bongo.
Cheers Debs, I'm glad it helped you out.

Steve, my Bongo needs engine mounts. I’m in Australia .. Are there any other engine mounts if I can’t get original Bongo parts?
Good technique, take it apart and then decide what to do. I'm good at the taking apart bit... not so good at reassembly 🙄👍🇮🇪
Taking things apart is definitely the fun bit 🤣
Good job on the power steering fix. Great Video
It drove me around the bend trying to solve it!
@@StevesMachines I bet it did. Wondering where it was going. Great video...
Another job to tick off the list then👍, nice work.
And a job that's plagued me for months on end. Very happy to have that one ticked off 😀
So was the power steering fluid leaking into the engine then if so wouldn't that damage it
Yes it could have, The ATF fluid doesn't have the tolerance to perform as engine oil so would eventually cause a lot more wear on the engine.
Many thanks for the video! Where can I find all seals of the right dimensions?
I'm lucky enough to have a place local to me that supplies bearings and seals. I took my old ones there and they matched them up for me.
Kayaba are a shock n suspension manufacturer (a good un too IMO) so that seal is probably a fork seal or shock seal ? strange they do pumps ?
ouch that thumb looks nasty....i bet a few expletives were exchanged on that shit !
good video mate , crack on 💅💪✌
Sorted. :)
No such problems with the power steering fluid leaks on the Reliant`s !
🤣
where did you get the seal from?
I took the old ones to a local seal and bearing place.
you have the size code of the seal by chance on the invioce ?I bought a wreck and in proceess of restoring my bongo wanna start all leaks first

@davetherave4328 Sorry I don't. Good luck with the build, they are great vans.
I;; have to take it apart and look at the bearing itself , once i know what bearing it is i will be able to find a seal , have a feeling my leak is from the steering rack area which ive yet to check ...just got told is has a leak @@StevesMachines
Racks are pretty easy to change. If the leak is from the top seal on the rack you can replace the seal with the rack in place.
