Larry David is the master of getting out of situations he doesn't want to be in. It seems like that's pretty much all he does is find ways to get out of things.
yet, he is just getting out of it because he convinces himself that this is a good way out. Everybody knew what he was doing, the only purpose of those "tricks" is to give yourself permission without guilt. People leave meetings without anything but "i have to go" all the time, you stay because you are actually needed or interested or you feel guilty.
@@vanivari359I only feel guilty if someone is picking up my slack. Otherwise, I'm out if it doesn't potentially involve me
Reminds me of his Comedians in Cars appearance where he says he wished the show would get canceled so he wouldn't have to work
Is there anything besides getting out of situations you don't want to be in? What accomplishments I have are the result of avoiding less pleasant conditions. Granted, being able to take the long view is a requirement.
Can't stand this disease of a person. Put real comedy on; later.
I have laughed so hard at the “I have one question and then I have to go” story!!! Larry is the most iconic person ever. Must have him back!!
😆🤣😆🤣
you could see larry was hesitant to tell the story cos it was such a good move he was planning on using it again & didnt want people to know 😂😂
larry david should be a regular on this lol
Yes please!
And bring Jordan into the conversation. He and Larry would have a great relationship.
@@marvincool3744how about Michael Jordan and Jordan Schlansky?
Larry should do a quarterly pod cast
I’m sure a near billionaire would just help Conan produce content for free and not for very specific promotional purposes.
2 legends sitting down together. Let's hear it for Larry and Sona.👏
Gourley is also iconic. I'm not sure who that human Cheeto is.
Sona is like the cool big sister that I wish I had. even though she's younger than me by I think maybe 10 years
The no-f@#%s given older sister
Sonas annoying ……..like pipe down dude
So frickin funny. The two of them together was so much fun. Could watch Larry talk to Conan all day!
I am so using that "I have one question then I've got to go"
Me too!
It's beautiful, you are basically pre-empting any objections to your departure by simply stating it outright
The thing is not everyone can get away with this stuff
@@radhiadeedou8286 You can get away with almost anything if you just announce you're doing it, and then just do it without asking first. You really don't even need to tell other people first.
"I've got one question and then I've got to go."
They are so right. Having a comedic mind bespeaks of a mind set not common in most people. That ability to mentally step outside the situation and come back in with an observation unique and funny. It requires a heightened sensibility for observing the absurd and the ability to shine a light on it. What a gift.
great comment
Larry?
I remember as a kid reading A Thousand Clowns - the guy was a TV writer and he spoke about watching the comedy of the streets and I thought - that must be NYC - my small town is grim and taciturn. But, I started to try and focus with all my being to will myself to see life’s absurdities and now I can’t turn the damn thing off.
@@maddymudlove this ! I live in Kansas 😮
@@maddymud Where I'm from, there's this storyteller, Fred Pellerin, who got popular telling tales (some, but not all, comedic) from his small town (less than 2000 inhabitants), mostly folklorized by himself - so who says there's no humor to be found in the happenings of a small town? In fact, I'd say there's plenty.
Larry usually resorts to old stories in his interviews, but Conan was able to make him soo comfortable. Great set of interviews.
Always love a conversation between two of the greatest writers in comedy
Conan is just getting the best guests for him, love seeing him talking to his peers and people he admires
This Podcast was one of my favorite from you guys, the chemistry with Sir David was great.
Sir David **snicker**
2:03 the way she laughs then stops 😂😂
2:03 you guys are the best fake laughers I have ever been around cuts to sona fake laughing lmao
She did a lot of fake laughs through this episode..
Conan and Larry are comedy legends. I can listen to these two talk all day.
Omg.... imagine this... Conan and Larry travel somewhere together for the new show!! Genius.
No, Larry and Jordan travel together!
I’ve listened to this episode 3 times in a row! Larry should be a monthly staple
This Miller commercial they always run in the middle of the show is the only time I ever see Sona agree with everything Conan says.😄
Wish they would release full video versions of this show.
Yeah put the whole show on RUclips. Missed opportunity.
It's fascinating to hear Conan say this about fake laughter. Many moons ago I was a part of his Late Night show as a script intern. One of my responsibilities was to take a list of monologue jokes curated by the head writer (Sweeney) and prepare them for cue cards. So if the jokes were amusing I'd already seen them multiple times. But right before showtime, as the crowd filtered in for a live taping in the studio, Conan would emerge from his dressing room preparing to do the monologue and would skim read through the cue cards so that they weren't totally alien to him when he went on the air.
A crowd of writers, PA's and other stage hands would crowd around as he read them without the inflection of on-air delivery, his eyes searching the faces of the crowd for confirmation of the material. I could tell he was watching me out of the corner of his eye because I would not laugh as the others were, mostly on account of the fact the jokes were not new to me and he wasn't delivering them as he would for the audience.
After the cue card read through ended and Conan dashed out to perform his show, a writer took me aside and whispered in my ear, "Look, I won't pretend these are the greatest jokes ever, but you have got to humor Conan and laugh, you're freaking him out and he thinks the jokes aren't funny because of your reaction."
Little did I know that I wielded such power as an unpaid intern, but I was his demographic and avatar for all, and so from that day forth for the rest of my internship I fake laughed to accommodate the frantic request of a writer who relayed what my impact had been upon the host for not laughing at his prepared material.
How did the internship help your career?
pretty sure he touched on this in another episode where he said he didn't know someone went around asking staff to placate for him and that was a weird dynamic he didn't know about show hosting.
Ok I could see that movie screening scene being recreated in the next season of Curb… I’d bet $1000 it’s the Conan cameo
Dude, a lot of the best comedians in the world majored in History.. all I gotta do is go back to school and major in history and I can be like them.
"mhm ..."
"yeah"
"yeah"
"what?"
"That's it..!"
That always get's me :D
Gracefully making an early exit from a party, social gathering, or other event is an art form to be mastered. The only masters I know of are Jim Halpert and now Larry David
Larry David & Conan are too funny together 😂😂
I waited sooo long for Larry to be a guest and now it’ll probably never happen ever again. Plus my favorite TV show had to die to make it a reality. 😂
“You guys are the best fake laughers”.
Check mate!
Jeff Goldblum and Larry David....my faves with Conan.
That guy should have his own show. He’s funny.
Sona's fake laugh was so incredibly timed.
Love this episode! They now have to make a show together where they travel to places they don't want to be so we can watch them find ways to get out of them.
I really need Larry to start any kind of podcast or talk show. Hell a show of Larry traveling the world would be fantastic! I just wanna hear him talk!
That's how a true creative moves through life. Deftly writing their moment to moment interactions to get what they want.
Kevin Nealon and Larry David would be the superbowl on this show.
I would speculate that studies in history help hone your ability to tune in to perception (ie, why did these people do what they did, given what they believed at the time, from my vantage point of knowing the outcome in the future), which is a primary component of observational humor. I find perception to be fascinating, as well as history for that reason. And I am funny. Very funny.
Very good observation
My highlights of the interview:
1:35 thank you. Now can we lose the added laughs on pretty much every single sitcom America?
4:05 Larry laughs just like skeletor. Just look at his jaw 😂.
Now I'm imagining his face over castle grayskull as the intro for He-man is ending
Conan and Larry together is amazing
ruclips.net/video/HUqyIKnYnFo/видео.html
Please invite Larry back at a later date! Please! He's one of my favorite people on earth for sure.
Invite him in person... and ask him as you're heading out the door while putting your jacket on, "I have one question, then I have to leave..."
I'm going to assume the movie was Avatar The Way of Water.
Long and horrible. It's adding up. Surprised David even went.
I'm assuming it was a comedy since they had comedy people there. I bet it was a Judd Apatow movie, since it was way too long. They didn't want to hurt the filmmaker's feelings, so I'm guessing it was one of their peers.
@@BrandonBurkhart any ideas what it was?
@ctrainbeats I didn't hear them mention the year this happened, so I don't have a specific guess. But knowing Larry, it would be a friend who invited him because he would not bother going otherwise. No way would he go to a screening like Avatar 2.
Nah Avatar Way of Water was fantastic
Pretty sure he’s talking about a comedy though
Would love a Serious Jibber-Jabber history podcast with Conan and Larry.
It's these kind of things that make me think that Curb isn't a TV show, it's just a Larry David documentary. And it's why I study every episode. The Big Goodbye still works every time.
"Is the car clean?" "Are you wearing the hat?"
@2:31 we get a raw, authentic glimpse into the fact that Larry David really was playing his exact self in Curb! That frustrated scoff from what he interpreted as an injustice to Conan was real.
ok
If you say so
Larry is the realest
And the realist
As a young kid answering a 'wanted' ad for a job in the paper, I found myself in a conference room with 50 other guys while the 'job' was really pyramid scheme based on us selling some crap. 10 minutes in, a guy stands up and says, this is BS and I'm leaving and he walked out while everyone watched. God, I wanted to be that guy. I was there for another hour.
This is why you know things like The Accidental Text on Purpose from curb is the kind of thing Larry does in real life. Wish I had his genius.
Larry David = Evil Genius 🤣
If it wasn’t for Conan's history major, we wouldn't have his classic Civil War remote. Basically, most of his remotes.
That was a good one. The way he kept shamelessly hitting on the girl who said her husband was off fighting in the war.....
I want to see the full video of this interview. I miss a lot only listening.
i hate knowing that gourley snips some stuff for time lol. i know he says we dont miss anything, but I WANT IT ALL
That story was like a radio mini-episode of Curb 😂
Nobody in the history of the world has said that Miller Lite tastes good. It is literally carbonated water with a slightly foul aftertaste.
“I’ve got one question and THEN I have to go”
5:17 I bet they're talking about Unfrosted
Unfrosted is not long nor a studio movie.
6:44 "maybe we could... without mentioning..."
it is so weird seeing larry averse to saying something that might get him in trouble
Is this whole episode available in video format anywhere?
They're talking about Avatar 2, aren't they? lol
That’s what I’m thinking. Very long and aliens going to another planet maybe was referencing when the avatar family go to another tribe
No, why would they both be there for some random movie like that. My guess is Unfrosted. And they didn't want to mention it because they didn't want their friend (Jerry) to feel bad.
Could picture them as the next iteration of Mel Brooks/Carl Reiner growing old together breaking out the TV trays and watching Jeopardy together every night cracking each other up
yes please. now that lewis is gone somebody has gots to be his buddy :(
Brilliant!
Make this the first full video release and charge miller for the whole run time ?
Conan is awesome.
I have one question then I have to go… how do we get the two to host a travel/history show together?
one of the best stories ever told on this podcast *chefs kiss*
We need a podcast series called "Curb your Conan"
"Conan your Enthusiasm"
"Curb Stomping Your Conan With Enthusiasm"
the new season of Curb has been great, really really good, and great, pretty pretty good
I like his sidekick! She's fun and cute.
Larry laughs like Skeletor. He should be in the new He-man movie.
That last bit reminds me of when Jerry and Elaine ditched George and left him with Mr Peterman 😂
Where do u watch full episode at ?
Reminds me of that Seinfeld episode where George got left with Elaine's dad and he's yanking Seinfeld's shirt and he rips it away
I've used something similar, make yourself a tiny event and then you get a participation star. Has me wondering what the movie was, though :)
Larry David Larry David’s his way out of 2hr meeting in real time
Love these segments with Larry !!
You either have the talent or you don’t, but you also need to be passionate, persistent and hard working. In short, you have to have the talent and willingness to put in the work. Both Conan and LD are examples of that. They were working 10+ years at it before they got Seinfeld and Late Night.
Maybe Larry David is free to be a full time co-host now! And yeah history is the best for understanding people, which includes good comedy.
super funny clip! Thanks team!
Cheeky Conan, left behind
Where can I watch the whole podcast??
What a move, what a legend
Knowing your history gets you laughs from people who are actually conscious.
Oh Larry.
I laughed so hard when i heard this..
Sona has the absolutely best job in the world.
So funny
This is great 👍
Well, I wasn't going to drink today, but Conan was going on and on about Miller Lite and that smooth finish.
Love these
Okay how do I get the full episode?
Love this!
Ads in the middle of clips? What a world!
jesus christ was that like a half hour beer commercial or what
1:42 yup, the crucial element of a podcast is sidekicks who cackle hysterically at every comment.
Only real Seinfeld fans would draw connection to Jerry and George finding excuses not to hang out with Mr Peterman
I can’t believe Conan O’Brien and Larry David were invited to a screening of the Snyder Cut
"Aliens on the other planet" I'm thinking it's Infinity War lol the Snyder Cut took place basically entirely on Earth aside from that one Darkseid scene at the end
@@usmanqureshi8941 damn, I bet you right
Rebel Moon? I don't know, I haven't seen it.
I'm thinking it was probably a bad movie, otherwise they wouldn't be complaining about having to stay there afterwards.
Naw, it's gotta be Adam McKay's 'Don't Look Up'.
It became awkward so quickly after the fake laughs were called out😂😂😂
I'm curious what the movie was
My guess would be Seinfeld's Unfrosted
Larry is the Michael Jordan of comedy
I wish this video had existed in 1999, because it probably would have inspired a young me to follow A different path.
was it avatar?
Larry David looks like a much older Tom Cruise. Or like Les Grossman from Tropic Thunder
