      That's funny, I've never heard of this but I made some from a piece of leftover meatloaf and hot dog buns last night. I wondered if anyone else had ever thought of it.

      I'm almost offended that you say he has food videos. He has Chef John videos, which are a mixture of his lilting addictive voice, his humor, the food is just an excuse.

    Stalactites. The way to remember is stalactites have to hold tight to stay on the ceiling, stalagmites might be mountains if they were bigger.

      Craig Green I always end up getting them confused anyways. My thinking process: Stalagmites hold on with all their might! Wait... Or is it Stalactites hold on tight? Why can't I remember the rest of the rhyme!? I DON'T KNOW ANYMORE!

    • @jakamneziak

      Try to remember it as a stalag-mite is a stalag-mole popping up through a hole! A Stalac-tite is a stalac-tail hanging down from the ceil... (ing).

  • @grrCHOMPd
    @grrCHOMPd 7 лет назад +76

    Hey Chef John! Stalactites gotta hold on tite to the ceiling, and as for Stalagmites, well, they mite as well just lie on the floor.

    • @FavoriteViewer
      @FavoriteViewer 7 лет назад +3

      I always thought they were mites because they had to be strong to grow against gravity... Stalag-"might".

    Stalactites.
    The way you can remember is
    Stalagmites have an M like mountains, that grow upwards.
    Stalactites have a T like tornadoes which come down.

    • @DragnSly

    I used to caddy at the "O" Olympic Club when I was a kid. It was the 1st place I ever had a cheese dog. These burgers were so delicious, it made it difficult to continue the back 9.
    This was lunch for a caddy, paid for by the golfer you were caddying for. I just finished making burger dogs, with a Nathan's Hot Dog inside of hamburger. Talk about decadence! Kind of ironic that I found this video today.

    I take a thin sausage and rap it in hamburger meat. And grill it that way. It's also good with grilled onions and red bell peppers. Thinly sliced. Sprinkled with bacon pieces and 2 cheeses with a brat bun toasted on the grill. Yum yum. Allways love your dishes and dry comedy. Cooking should always be fun. And thank you for telling people to be inventive. I always try. My shepherds pie last week was gone in ten minutes at the party. It was venison instead of lamb.

    They been making a slightly shorter versions in Europe for many many years.. but with a blend of Beef Lamb and Pork, with some awesome Seasonings which really wake up the flavors of the meat.. Called Mititei.. They are like hotdogs in the usa , served on practically every street corner in major cities in Romania , In fact they originated on the Capital of Bucharest at an inn, when the owner who made sausages ran out of casings so he just put the meat on the grill without the casing..

    Chef John, with all due respect, this type of "burger" preparation is far from being All-American. This is a concept that has been well-known in Eastern Europe and in particular Serbia and Bulgaria as ćevapčići or kebabche, respectively.

    Grocery stores have meatless 'meat' options available in a special section of the store. They have imitation sausage, chicken, beef, etc... Tofu is commonly used as an option. My suggestion is going to the produce section of the store and picking out some veggies like zucchini or squash that is about the length of a bun and either cutting them into long strips or filet-style pieces and grilling them instead of hamburger. Grilled veggies are awesome.

    Its ok to have a little "blush" on the inside of most meats that they say should be well done. Lamb, pork and beef can have a light pinkish hue as long as the internal temp is high enough. Read up the temps that are safe and try it, they taste much better to me then having them brown or grey inside, but to each their own.

    I remember making a burger dog when I had no burger buns. But I had hot dog buns. But I didnt know it was a thing. I was lucky to have whatever. :) Great video. As expected.

    This is a great idea. Thanks. Not as messy as a burger can get I bet.

    This has been around for a long time,. years ago at 7-11 across the street from an old barbershop I was working at, they had them, it was called the cheese burger big bite. I used to put a line of nacho cheese and a line of ketchup on top...friggin delicious! Obviously the one in this video is sexier and got me wondering...when seasoning in the middle before wrapping and rolling to shape...how about swiss or muenster with sauteed onions rolled up as a nice surprise..? Pickled jalapenos and cheddar...so many tasty outcomes..it's like those books from childhood where you can choose your own adventure by turning to certain pages for different outcomes..OK, I'll go back to my corner and shush my face now.
