Hey Sir, i really appreciate your content, thank you for all your hard work! But I've one question - is it recommended to do 2 workouts during your prolonged fast? For example i start my fast Sunday evening around 6pm, go to gym on Monday at 13 o'clock, keep fasting, and go to gym on Tuesday at 6am, then break your fast after a workout.

You didn't mention anything about what type of workouts? I do strength training and trying to figure out if you would recommend these workouts fasted. Seems like I'd run out of gas soon and not be able to push through the workout. Please explain?>

    • @hoopmania9912
      @hoopmania9912 3 года назад +8

@@rjallenbach1 If you are training fasted to gain muscle then it's recommended to eat right after the workout to get it in the 1 hr anabolic window. Recent studies shows that anabolic window doesn't really mean much if you have already eaten before your workout but that if you eat after your fasted workout, then it spikes protein synthesis. Just training while fasted will help burn fat too, so I don't see a problem eating right after if you are just going for weight loss as well.

For me, exercising and eating correctly, obviously help with depression and mood. But doing HIIT, or strength workouts fasted, is a game changer for me. It has helped me so much mentally. Helped me to keep going and not do the "on-off" diet thing, but also just to be so much more chill, less anxiety, less bitchy, more confident, higher sex drive even. Its tough when you get started, but you want these feelings and crave them.. So 'will power' comes with it. I know I'm pushing myself. I know I'm eating good. I feel good, so even though this scale is a douche bag. I keep going because I'm healing from the inside out.

Great videos and I personally do cardio fasted. However worth adding for context on IMTG utilization. The studies listed (and referenced studies of studies) are for 2 hour + cardio sessions and only apply to type1 muscle fibers. The test are for subjects ingesting carbs 15 mins prior and during these cardio sessions vs overnight fasted. Further research might be required on subjects who haven't eaten for 2 hours (not 15 mins) vs 10 hour fasted state. Also the ITMG and muscle building points won't work in unison unfort given the nature of ITMG cardio training.

From a not looking to gain muscle or for that matter carrying too much fat either - (so perhaps it can be a factor in where one is and what one wants to achieve, physically)- that being said,
Working out fasted suits me, that said I do find what I eat the day before is crucial to energy levels during that workout.
If it's carbs the day before then I'm almost certainly going to feel hunger and be slightly less energetic.
Sometimes hungry enough to actually have to break the fast altogether -
Its no problem as I will listen to the body (most of the time) other times I'll persist with the fast and ride through it.

I read years ago that I needed to eat some protein within 45 minutes of working out. I used to do my first-thing-in-the-morning bike rides while fasting. Perhaps I consumed some water, but no nutrient-filled food. For a few years now though, I've been riding after taking my normal morning supplements and some other foods, but not breakfast, per se. So, now I'm going back to my old way of doing things to get a better metabolic response. Hopefully, I'll see more weight loss!!

I decided to try fasted cardio after watching one of your videos on the subject; I admit to being a bit hesitant at first, but gave it a shot. To my amazement, I found that I NEVER developed any "bonking" or other type of fatigue, and in fact, felt stronger than I ever have if I've tried to run even a few hours after a meal, and I continue to feel strong even at the end of the run. Not only that, but the post-run/hike muscle fatigue and soreness I used to get in the past is gone. This may be due to dietary changes including a lower-carb, higher fat diet and elimination or drastic reduction in foods known to cause inflammation (I'm going with Dr. Steven Gundry's recommendations primarily). I also find that I don't become hungry for sometimes a couple of hours after the run is over. Unreal!
So, my anecdotal experience has been: two morning dayhikes on rough, very steep Grand Canyon trails (Nankoweap & North Bass), fasted. Felt great. Several trail runs 6-9 miles in length - never felt bad. 4x/week morning runs of 2-3 miles, fasted.
Fasting for me: black coffee. I drink water and 2 electrolyte tablets prior to the runs.
For reference, I'm 53, 5'6", and weigh about 120 (so, about 20% BF).also do barbell-based strength training 3-4x/week. I have done a couple of fasted weight workouts and haven't found those to be quite as awesome as the fasted cardio.
But, I'm absolutely sold on working out while fasted!

When you guys say fasted state I’m assuming you mean intermittent fasting. As in 8-16 hours right? What about not eating food for a few days. Or even just 24 hours?
Is it safe to have a 4 day fast? I like doing juices fasts every couple of months. I’ve been doing them for years and always get positive results (cold pressed)
I think this time I’ll do a heavy cardio workout at the end of my fast and have my first break fast meal ready for right after.
Any info on fasting for 24 hours or longer is greatly appreciated. Unless maybe Thomas meant long fasts too, I wasn’t sure

He says that fasting before your workout for MUSCLE GAIN and then eating afterwords is when you build more muscle. Not if you still workout specifically for muscle gain and then continue with fasting (let’s say an extended fast, 3-7 days whatever). So only do this if you are at the end of your fast OR, you are doing intermittent fasting specifically for muscle gain. Fat loss is totally different.

Been on keto for about 5 months now. I just cannot lift weights in a fasted state. Strength is always horrible and I struggle to make it through the entire workout. Even just eating 2-3 eggs as a meal before my morning workout makes a huge difference for me.

    • @anarchy6417

Try to eat a piece of fruit or a smoothie instead of the eggs, it’s easier and gives you a little energy boost pre fasted workout

They would have had almost no extra body fat either, so the body would have slowed their metabolism down while they were active. Where most of us have plenty, or even way too much, extra body fat we don’t need to worry about this, the body will just use more bodyfat as ketones for energy and keep metabolism the same or even better

I wake up at 5 in the morning.I usually drink my apple cider vinegar and lemon water when I workout 🏋️‍♂️. I mainly workout at home. If I go to the gym, I do eat one boiled egg and one boiled sausage. I don’t like the idea of going out on an empty stomach. However, if I’m going to do another exercise I do a protein shake not a heavy meal. Afterward I am done with all my exercises then I eat light meal high in protein with veggies for fiber. I love water but sometimes I will get a light drink, no sodas or sugary drinks.

At first, then if you continue to workout fasted over the weeks and months you will make adaptations and then it will feel strange to consume anything but water pre/during/post exercise.

I’m completely in synchronicity with the message. Just wanted to know on the belief that eating something an hour before a meal helps with the energy for workout. How do we explain that? I feel the body adapts and one can go with high intensity in fasting but some people do mention that it’s not really good to do that. Any comments on this pls.

I believe it tricks the body into thinking it's in a deeper fasting state than it is and causing ketosis and more fat burn. I'm not well grounded on the physiology but this is a summary
