This takes me back to student days. Roy Harper's 'Flat Baroque & Beserk' on a weekly basis while we struggled with Applied Heat. Since then, lost touch with both Harper and A.H. So good to hear this music again; and so glad that Roy went on and on, always the cool character. 'Another Day' and 'Goodbye' have always been playing, at some level or another, in my mental background. Hats off to the man and his music....Best wishes...Chris.Wyton & Bill Melling
Glad I lived through the 60's, 70's. 80's, 90's, 2000's & now 2010's. Played music with some incredible people then in 68 listened to Roy play & nearly gave up the guitar. Would have missed Martin Jenkins, John Martin, John Renbourne & all those other musicians who made & still make life worth living. Even now living in Spain cannot believe how people here respond to the music of a different ere. Still playin, groovin & enjoying the response to the finest of acoustic guitar players. Enjoy Roy's music now as you may not discover another player with such depth of feeling. PEACE to ALLL. Paddy.
I HAD AN EMAIL OF ROY MONTH AGO...HE WAS SO HAPPY I CHOSE SOPHISTICATED BEGGAR + THIS SONG @ MY DADS FUNERAL..BEAUTIFUL LETTER THROUGH THE DOOR 2...BEAUTIFUL SONGS....LONG LIVE KING ROY
Roys music carried me thru a long term illness , made me weep, laugth, fight ,inspired by roys llyrics, thankyou roy,, maybe oneday i will get to see you live,at last, blees you roy,...tim le venoir,.x
I remember being in bed around 17yrs old, sleepy when my boy friend put this on towards the death throes of our relationship. I listened in a kind of floaty way, it's sound ethereal and like nothing I had heard before. I never forgot it and it haunted me, but now I have heard it again I am happy. The nostalgia is sweet/painful. I have dragged myself around many of Roy's concerts. His music is beautiful and he is a modern day poet.
Since first seeing Roy at Stonehenge back in the 80's he's consistently made me appreciate the simple beauty of a guy singing and playing a guitar well.
katladevote a perfect phrase, Roy is utterly unique, I first remember listening to him when we were doing our A levels at school in Hull, at that time singer songwriters were two to a dozen, and I remember him getting some stick at times for his stoned performances, but what a, singer and songwriter he turned out to be- a national treasure.
I remember my first trip to Glastonbury. Got in just before Roy started playing Tom Tiddler on a beautiful evening. I thought I’d reached utopia. Then ginger baker forced him to go off and got a brick in the head for his troubles from the harper fans. Back to earth, and drum solos- yawn even from baker.
Two beautiful songs Tom Tiddler's Ground is originally from a children's game where if you get tagged by member of of opposing team (touched) you have to go to Tom Tiddler's Ground until you are tagged by a member of your team without them being tagged. From your old friend Hans. Good one Roy.
I have a brother and he's one year old he wears a zappy little nappy he squeezes the contents through the cot rails what a very crappy little chappy bloody great... 8-)
'Tom Tidler's Ground, also called Tom Tiddler's Ground or Tommy Tiddler's Ground, is an ancient children's game in which one player, "Tom Tidler," stands on a heap of stones, gravel, etc.; other players rush on the heap, crying "Here I am on Tom Tidler's ground," while Tom tries to capture the invaders or keep them off. By extension, the phrase has come to mean the ground or tenement of a sluggard, or of one who is easily taken advantage of.
. I wanted to add that I always found him a little strange looking, but saw him recently on Jool's show, now 70 yrs old, he cut a fine attractive , silver headed figure.
The 60's and 70's were another planet, and cannot be compared to the shit we have to endure today.
It's reassuring that in 40 - 50 years time people will be saying the same about today's music. Roy Harper is soooooo important to me but he will pass.
Roy's most beautiful song. I bought this record when it was first released-I'm an old hippy and proud of it. Peace.
This man has been a legend for 5 decades , truly talented and overshadowed by more commercial artists

The best album of all time by Anyone (probably!) Tom Tiddlers ground is also a little known short story by Charles Dickens
Beautiful. Go see Nick Harper -His son - if you get chance. Just as good.
