- John O’Hare's company has created "the miracle machine" - the self-weighing suitcase, John left school to work in the fields as a farm labourer when he was just 11 years old. Now the 61-year-old is on the verge of making a mint as his invention of a self-weighing suitcase goes in front of the Dragons. John is looking for an investment of €100,000 in return for a 20% equity stake.
An international sensation, Dragon's Den features entrepreneurs pitching for investment in the Den from our Dragons, five venture capitalists willing to invest their own money in exchange for equity.

Everyone just seems a bit simple in the Irish version
Many airlines require any battery elements of smart cases to be removed before checking in baggage. If it's not removable, they wouldn't allow you to take the case.

licencing won't work. The big players will always just alter the design to circumvent the patent and do it themselves.
The only way to make money is to be first to market with a self weighing suitcase and use branding as your edge. Patents are not protectable because a) companies circumvent them and b) chinese manufacturers will just steal it.
That would cost millions and would be copied anyway.
Reputable companies aren't in the games of stealing ideas. What you are saying is that licensing deals can never work because of the risk if other companies stealing the idea even if patented.

The Dragons are nuts. A self weighing case is a good idea... assuming that something like that can survive being abused like luggage, but turning it into a smart device? Why would you want to give people MORE reason to steal your luggage?

although grade school, grade 7 & 8 had tech and wood shop.. but they did not mention how to patent what one makes.. no mention of teaching of that in them grade school classes.. // it should be added to all workshop classes, including auto shop.. / grade 10 accounting teaches GAAP (generally accepted accounting principles) and how Corporate Tax rates do not change the Margins in business.. so no matter how low the tax rate is for a corporation, the Margins still dictate if wages or any spending on new equipment can be made... // tech class for them that are in vocational training schools NEED to possess not JUST the 'how to make & do skills' but also how to patent the ownership of their Own Thoughts.. Freedom is not Free if the coins off Thoughts all go to some Foreigner that owns shares of a company U work for.. // render on to Caesar is not possible without a Prophet.. // lol..
