You won't need those trinkets but yea he will always be solo tanked by DKs due to vamp blood and AMS.. many fights will be solo tanked by DKs. Tbh most raid comps will have a blood DK main tank and feral OT so I don't think prot pallys will be highly sought after. I just spent a year on a cata private server, warrior and pally tanks were greatly overlooked and I even saw them kicked or relegated to dps in favor of a BDK. It was a private server tho, blizzard making tweaks could change everything.
shadow priest is actually exceptionally good in several single target fights aswell. especially those that give haste and/or crit buffs like alysrazor or majodormus in firelands additonally to the multi target fights. especially the off heal with its cooldown is incredible valueable.

Great video! Love the content. I just want to put this out there. While there is a meta to the game and some classes do bring more to the table than other. What WoW needs the most is people willing to lean the mechanics and be able to be an effective raid lead, and organizer. Everything else falls apart without the one or more people putting these groups together.
Keep in mind; most players will likely end up doing 10s instead of 25s, due to them sharing the same lockout and dropping the same gear. In 10 main raids, you only get ONE battle rez per fight. The biggest things you want to have covered are lust (shaman or mage) and something with a battle rez (druid, DK, or Warlock). As for the 3% damage buff, Ret is the best to fill that... your Mages will want to go fire by at least the 2nd tier, and BM Hunters don't deal nearly as much damage as SV. Ret also comes with a TON of advantages, from auras and buffs to insanely powerful CDs such Hand of Sacrifice and Lay on Hands. These CDs can and will save you from wipes, and with only a single b rez in 10s it becomes even more valuable to do so. They do fantastic damage from start to finish and cover so many buffs they are hard to pass up. SV Hunter is also another must pick IMO, simply because they can cover almost any buff your raid is missing via their pet choice. They have an interesting toolkit that makes them ideal to handle any odd jobs that a fight might present, and their excellent damage is now even LESS impacted by movement. This is a really good xpac for Hunters with nice quality of life changes and being incredible in both PvE and PvP. Ele is another spec that is hard to pass up simply with how much they bring to the table. They cover lust, the 5% crit buff, the 5% spell haste (only covered by three specs), 10% spell power buff (Demo is the ONLY other spec to provide this), and the armor buff that is only provided by the shaman totem and Devo Aura... meaning your pallies can use their other auras (and most other specs that can cover resistances have to give something else up to do so, even if it is only a glyph slot). On top of all of that, they become an actual damage dealer and have great AoE damage to boot. They are easy to play and fun. These are the big three that makes covering the buffs you need a breeze in a 10 man comp. ...and each one of them slaps.
@@cukman1643 Baseline of fire is insanely strong with 4.3 patch (they buffed some fire spells up to 100%). While low gear feels bad (due to low crit), it will still do decent damage and beat Arcane pretty much always. Its a weird situation that only happened because they buffed fire that much.
@@Blubking1 In cata, most of the raids had some sort of ADDS in adition of the bosses, which made Fire mages EXTREMELY strong due to combustion sharing. Sometimes the raid could even ignore a mechanic because of that cooldown, so yeah, fire mages were the go to spec in every raid tier
I asked the people at Blizzard to do classic cata because i never played it back in the day. And i wanted to play it like it was back then. Im glad theyre doing it just for me 😊
Cata was absolutely amazing. I’m so upset they ruined survival hunter in retail. Try it out. It is insanely fun in cata. I’m going 100% hunter in cata.
It won't be _entirely_ like it was back then because we're going to be playing with the final patch state of the game again, rather than experiencing the changes throughout the expansion. Fury warriors for example were a lot better for most of the expansion than they are in 4.3.4 so most likely they will be massively underrepresented. Fire mage was also quite a bit worse so arcane saw a lot more play, but fire got buffed so now they have much better baseline damage while still scaling extremely well so they'll be played even in the first raid tier (especially with reforging now allowing you to stack crit/mastery while getting as close as possible your haste breakpoints). All that being said, maybe Blizzard will do some minor adjustments to bring the low performers up a bit... one can hope. But it will be an incredibly fun expansion regardless. (Then again, I play fire mage so I'll certainly be eating good lol)
Cataclysm is a better WotLK in every possible way, except it has 1 fewer raid tiers and no proper equivalent of 10 Man Normal Raid difficulty from WotLK(LFR is NOT it). Everything else is better. Class design in Cata was peak until SL/DF, dungeon and raid mechanics and overall quality went up a lot, PVP was also peak until SL/DF, leveling 1-60 and 80-85 are much better, itemization and item progression peaked in Cata until DF, the tabard reputations were polished and rewards were well done too, the badges were polished by turning them into justice/valor. And you have a dungeon tier for every raid tier in Cata, I think only Legion had that as well.
@@andreisv TBC is really fckn good, but wrath is better in my opinion since we get DK's. they offer some very good melee variety and debuffs & are generally just disgustingly op xD
It also allowed for the most insane AoE that rivals any other spec in any other xpac... it feels sooooo good when you get a juicy one and your screen fills up with numbers.
@@nikolaikalashnikov4253 when you have ignite dot, pyroblast dot, and living bomb dot at the same time then you can press combustion. You want ignite dot as high as possible for the maximum combustion damage.
I recall balance Druids being very strong every tier of Cata when raiding during live content. The eclipse mechanic, mushroom placement and multi dotting give the class a very high skill cap. Don’t sleep on the boomchickens.
Gave your channel a break for a few months but it was good to be back to give the cata stuff a peek - my serious playing days ended with the end of wrath back in the day so I'm cautiously optimistic about this (pally main as well this time around so it's gonna be a new world with holy power), great coverage as usual!
My pre-cataclysm checklist (these items will no longer be attainable): 1 - Darton's Rod of Transformation (Alliance only toy) 2 - Light of Elune (Alliance only good luck charm) 3 - Linken's Boomerang (trinket that surprisingly never got nerfed for targets over lvl 60) 4 - ZG mounts 5 - Dungeon set 1 & 2 (for transmog fashion) 6 - Skull of impending doom (gimmick offhand that lets you sprint) 7 - Nifty Stopwatch (sprint trinket but has long cooldown)
Really excellent overview. Thanks WillE. I really hate the holy power mechanic. HPal has been my main all along and now I'll have to think about switching, just like I did in the original run.
Im looking forward to Cata, though I will say Im a little worried for it's longevity given how quickly Wrath died once the raids had been out for a few weeks.
On the plus side, the PvP was fantastic and it is the most alt friendly expansion the game has ever had. The raid fights are more difficult, and getting heroic kills will likely take longer. My biggest concern is people not willing to give it a chance... before Classic was announced I had gone back through and played every version of the game from Vanilla to MoP; after removing my rose colored glasses I'm surprised how well it holds up. The flaws it has are few but quite noticeable. The middle tier was great but much shorter (really could have used the water raid counterpart), and the final tier was a bit of a letdown and had no world content. The heroic dungeons at launch were the best batch we've ever had, but then we were funneled into two troll dungeons and three dungeons for the final patch. In general, everything is frontloaded and there is LESS content to do as the expansion goes on. They really should look at keeping the previous two raid and dungeon tiers viable as the expansion goes on. If they wanted to go the extra mile it could be made into an amazing expansion if they added another raid in the second tier, redid the final tier, and added world content akin to the timeless isle with 4.3. It was SOOOOO close.
That’s how ever version of wow is outside retail. Until a variation of mythic + is put in then raid logging will continue due to the lack of competitive pve content outside raiding on a week lockout.
just a quick note that I'm surprised wasn't mentioned, fire mage has god tier burst aoe dmg. When you pop a phatt combustion you can spread it to other targets with your fire blast proc. There are a few fights that make your dps sky rocket higher than Mike Tyson on a handful of shruuumz. not always the easiest to time, but it's one of those little things.
funnily enough, I'm second to only our holy pally on my raid team as heals using a holy priest, Chakra dancing is fun, and I can fill either a tank heal role, or a group heal role depending on the fight. I honestly think holy is severely underrated.
TL;DR you want a resto druid, resto druid and holy pally are flavor of the month in cata. Mained a holy priest in cata, regen was really bad compared to the other healers I played. Chakra strips you of versatility and you make the other healers OOM more because you can barely help on the tank without OOMing. You still have a niche - prayer on spread out ranged - but arguably resto druids do it better and their lifebloom on the tank is much more help than you can provide. Holy might be a mess but Disc is still very solid, being the only disc priest in a 25 is an absolute treat to play.
One thing to mention about demo lock is that, yeah it can do top DPS but from experience on Apollo wow cataclysm private server, it's typically considered one of the most difficult specs to play and min max rotation wise. You have to do alot of pet management and you have alot of CD's to pop at the right time and your meta is not on a fixed CD and will naturally not align with your demonsoul or trinket CDs after the first cast, making it pretty tricky. It also requires a pre-pull mastery item set u use to pop meta and swap back to normal gear just before the pull.
this is exactly what I experience, and have the feeling of playing demo lock. You do so much, but don't get top 1-3 dps out of it every time. I'm strongly considering playing shadowpriest instead
I never play cata i am looking forward to it as i want to play wow after seeing boss guides for cata boss and got to play in mist I do want to play balance druid and maybe shadow priest
I do not know why so many peoples hate on Cataclysm because there are a lot of fun classes/specs to try out while there is also so much stuff to do especially PvE wise so i do not know about others but i will definitely have a blast playing this version of the game. The fact that we will have the beta/gamme catch up mechanic for 5mans will also make it so much more fun for alts.
I don’t think cata was bad but it does mark the beginning of the end of my enjoyment for the game I actually loved cata at the time but nowadays I think I’ll stick to my vanilla flavor. I’ll come see the sights and ding 85 for sure tho
I'm very excited for all the changes for Cata. It seems like, how you said, with Cata being less solved, we're going to likely see more exciting pop-offs. Who knows, maybe someone will finally discover that the Rockbiter Weapon change allows Shaman Tank to be a real thing. We saw a few discoveries during Wrath of all things, so maybe we'll see something new and exciting in Cata.
19:53 doesn't look like UH DK boosts shadow priest's disease damage any longer in cata. The tooltip says 'increases damage taken from YOUR diseases by 30%". I assume that's deliberate wording. And as a shadow main I'd be glad about it too if we're not dependent on having an UH DK in the raid anymore.
Cata is the first expansion I am excited to see in Classic. I loved Cata. I personally can't wait for people to come up with the things we invented way back in the day. Again. For the third time. Shame I won't be playing hunter this time.
Omg.. i remember gurthalak 2h sword from dragon soul on my arms warrior in pvp... getting kited, but then i spawn up to 3 on a player and they just absolutely EAT them by themselves and me just loving it! Cant wait for that. Way more fun than lego daggers to me
I used to laugh at this kind of suggestion, but I’d be up for it lol. We need the classic player-base all unified on a singular classic version of the game, instead of splitting people between classic, classic era and SoD.
I've never liked TLP servers until I played SoM. The relatively small knit community & handful of top guilds kept the trolling down and the community honest because your character's reputation within the community was actually significant to the point that if you were a shitty person to others you basically got marooned- which is preferable to no-name faces in the crowd that could fuck your group or raid & disappear without consequences. That being said, I love the idea of servers with dedicated timelines with options to circumvent the grinding aspect of leveling via XP buffs or quest level scaling with your actual level.
Burn out got me hard in ICC but im tempted to come back for cata, maybe as fury warrior or demo lock. Not sure if ill have time to raid while im raiding in ff14 tho, we'll have to see
I'll be honest with you.. Fury is in a REALLY bad state this xpac. We will be playing on the final patch, which means they will be garbage until the final tier and even then Arms will do more. The good news is, Arms is amazing and really fun to play. If there was a single spec they should make changes to, it should be Fury.
@@naejimbayeah ive heard about how fury is during cata, both back in the day and beliefs for this time around. A bit unfortunate to know, especially since looking through the talent tree makes it look like it'll be current fury but with some more procs and such. Oh well though, I'm sure arms will be fun, and warlock will be strong if I decide to play that like I'm tempted to. Held strong to warrior through classic to now but it is what it is.
@@thewinner4me816Fury in Cata is sadly not much fun to play because you're often rage starved. Meanwhile Arms feels like it has infinite rage and you need to constantly hit a ton of heroic strike/cleave to keep it down (stance dancing means you're effectively capped at 75 rage so you have to spend early and only pool a little bit for Colossus Smash windows). If you like WotLK fury for its high APM playstyle, you'll probably be quite happy with Cata Arms, it's super fun to play and will 100% be my first priority alt.
I would definitely give cata a go but I'd recommend arms as it will be much stronger than fury and one of the strongest class specs. I think you'll have a lot of fun as warrior.
I remember playing arenas back in 2012 on my fully geared warrior just for an arcane mage with legendary staff to pop all cooldowns and crit me 50k three times in like 1 second without me even dismounting and dying on the spot lol, arcane mages are gonna be OP
I was annoyed they made goblin horde. I thought they should have been neutral, but able to rep the factions how they wanted. Rep stormwind, lose undercity. Friend the orcs, lose the dwarfs. Something like that
I loved playing Enhancement Shaman from naxx to rs, but by ICC the massive DPS fall off due to mediocre scaling, as well as being less relevant than Elemental Shamans truly made me reconsider what I want for Cataclysm. I'll probably still do the first tier as Shaman but I already have plans to go for Fire Mage and some sort of Hunter lmao. Those seem to be always busted and stackable as hell.
@@afscrew123 yeah I can def see putting one token enhance in 25m will continue being a thing (at the moment guild has two people including me in most ICC runs with healhance spec just for sindragosa and valithria) but yeah sucks not being a stackable spec that also gets worse loot prio for obvious reasons.

I can with a 100% guarantee sayt that Holy will outheal Disc on EVERY figh that doesnt have a dmg amplification (Halfus wyrmbreaker for example). Disc will only be used for PI + Barrier on fights like Chimearon, Halfus, Nefarian , Ragnaros etc You coud obv run Holy + Disc on on some fights but Holy Priest on medium high dmg fights with lots of predictable sustained dmg periods like Magmaw, Omnotron, Spine of Deathwing, Madness of Deathwing, Ultraxion , Al'akir, Maloriak. For classic depending on how they tune raids and the lenght of average fights, on shorter fights u prob wont use a priest at all or just 1 disc and a few paladins. Paladins is by far the best healers on fights where they can chain their OP CDs back to back, HolyP or Rdruid on sustained fighs (Divine Hymn usage will decide Hpriests OPness as its the most broken healing CD there is for raw troughput)

@Yusuf-yh1jn SoD is a timed thing, meaning you have to put the time in now or miss out. Cata releasing in the middle of p3 makes it compete for your limited time if you want to raid in cata as well. Would've been better if it released after the final phase of SoD but that would make the last phase of wotlk classic drag on way too long, boring those players to death...
I'm not sure if I'll play it to the extent I did with wrath but ill defo give it a go, at least get to max level and try a couple raids. Think I'm gonna go with demo lock because I've heard some good things about it in Cata
i would argue that Warlock is top wotlk dps so far i saw Fire Mages be the kings especialy if you stack em. I could see warlock in top dps as long as the fight takes longer than 2mins and have enough mobs to dot but not for single target.
Feel like cata pvp will be great. Much more alt friendly, catch-up arena points, rbgs, every class is viable and most importantly the game flow makes sense compared to retail lol
Really wish they'd make at least a couple servers for each era and let you move from an older to a newer if/when you want to. ie you create a toon on a TBC server, level with TBC rules, maybe do some end game. stick around a couple months then go to a LK server. Level up, do stuff, maybe never leave the LK server if you don't want. hell, offer paid "copies" where you can copy to a newer ruleset but don't lose your guy on the older server either. I'd pay for that
Rogue will always be awesome 😂 But yea it will definitely be a lot of fun. Leveling as combat and having a constant cleave feels absolutely amazing. I'm definitely gonna have a rogue alt.
But you don’t bring a aff lock. So yea it is. Your locks will be demo or won’t be in the raid. And at that demo is one of if not the hardest side to play well in cata so it will be reserved for solid players.
@@parkerfrode5101 lmfao, most guilds aren't sweaty min/maxers who make roster decisions like that. In 25m you can bring one of everything if you want and still be successful.
Fire is being played from the start with 4.3 balance
@@Blubking1I thought the reason fire wouldn't be played was from lack of gear not balancing am I mistaken?

Combustion in Cata is the hardest hitting ability in the expansion if you can timing it properly. Especially if combined with impact talent.
It also allowed for the most insane AoE that rivals any other spec in any other xpac... it feels sooooo good when you get a juicy one and your screen fills up with numbers.

My pre-cataclysm checklist (these items will no longer be attainable):
1 - Darton's Rod of Transformation (Alliance only toy)
2 - Light of Elune (Alliance only good luck charm)
3 - Linken's Boomerang (trinket that surprisingly never got nerfed for targets over lvl 60)
4 - ZG mounts
5 - Dungeon set 1 & 2 (for transmog fashion)
6 - Skull of impending doom (gimmick offhand that lets you sprint)
7 - Nifty Stopwatch (sprint trinket but has long cooldown)
what about black proto drake?
I was mt as prot warrior and did manage just fine back in the days. And will play prot now aswell.
Cataclysm content requires fewer players and is also more interesting than wotlk.
Can't wait for Cata
funnily enough, I'm second to only our holy pally on my raid team as heals using a holy priest, Chakra dancing is fun, and I can fill either a tank heal role, or a group heal role depending on the fight. I honestly think holy is severely underrated.
I remember disc was awesome and a must for a few bosses
I'm strongly considering playing shadowpriest instead
you have so many keybindings that I'm about to puke. but wild instance farming dps

Yeah, I remember switching from Holy in OG WotLK into Disc in OG Cata and it was loads of fun. Shields go brrrr, lol.
This will actually bring me back to the game.
Cata is the first expansion I am excited to see in Classic. I loved Cata. I personally can't wait for people to come up with the things we invented way back in the day. Again. For the third time. Shame I won't be playing hunter this time.

I used to laugh at this kind of suggestion, but I’d be up for it lol.
We need the classic player-base all unified on a singular classic version of the game, instead of splitting people between classic, classic era and SoD.
Wrath and tbc deserve a permanent server.
Not sure if ill have time to raid while im raiding in ff14 tho, we'll have to see
Didnt watch te Video? Furry is shittuh

Those seem to be always busted and stackable as hell.
enh will be better in cata than it is in icc, and ele is also really strong.
Enhance does good damage but i would never take one for 10man. 25mans its whatever.

I can with a 100% guarantee sayt that Holy will outheal Disc on EVERY figh that doesnt have a dmg amplification (Halfus wyrmbreaker for example).
Disc will only be used for PI + Barrier on fights like Chimearon, Halfus, Nefarian , Ragnaros etc
You coud obv run Holy + Disc on on some fights but Holy Priest on medium high dmg fights with lots of predictable sustained dmg periods like Magmaw, Omnotron, Spine of Deathwing, Madness of Deathwing, Ultraxion , Al'akir, Maloriak.
Arms warriors with Gurthalak in 4.3 just owned the game. PvE, PvP, doesnt matter, you're gonna slap and are gonna tank anything coming your way
