*To the nay-sayers, etc.:
I teach High School Humanities in Detroit City Schools, and I have students who L-O-V-E ! ! the messages in Robert Hood's and Honey Dijon's music. One of my students heard the HD, MJK, Jr. "I Have A Dream" speech played out to house beats and my student was able to relate it to work he had in his ELA class.
These kids are at the age where many of their parents remember RH & Co. from back in the day. They went to different venues with their portable equipment and fresh tracks playing in the different House Parties around the City, like Charivari, etc.
Music like Robert Hood's can be used for class discussions about some of the socio-economic issues facing our City, and other cities like it in the US.
Artists like RH the world over fuse current events into their medium of choice. They do this primarily as a form of self-expression. These artists are deeply connected to their cause through introspection and reflecting on their values, feelings, political affiliations, etc. in relation to the world around them.
This is done many times as a reaction to a particular societal issue or injustice writ-large. Numerous examples demonstrate how these techniques have lead to such things as a new movement, bringing awareness to a cause, raising money or bringing aid to a group of people, or providing a forum to unite voices against ongoing human rights offenses that include limited access to resources, or violations against human rights. People the world over were united last year against the ongoing police brutality throughout the US that has been routinely carried out against virtually all ethnic groups here in the US whose skin color happens to be darker than Egg Shell. Shamefully, this affects black males the most.
That Robert Hood's music NOW is as topical and relevant as EVER speaks VOLUMES to his original vision and unparalleled talents. To experience his music and watch him as he works with his daughter, Lyric, is nothing short of exhilarating, and an exemplar of how culture works. We react to his music because what he does and the way he does it use styles and techniques that are as old as humanity itself.

Most house and techno fans are quite oblivious about the larger social and political background of their favorite music…as popular musics have always obscured much of their background for greater commercial appeal…a good thing is that there are more journalists and docu-filmmakers interested in these backgrounds nowadays!
What if we had the culture we deserve? 😉
That is what we like, that is REAL Techno! Robert Hood, Ben Sims, Mark Broom, S-File, Truncate, DJ Rush, Luke Slater are reeeeeal Techno! The old guys knows what a good selection and good mixing is. No over hypt young djs, no insta dj models, no ghost producers, no fake, no posers. Love this guys because they are real!

Thank you Robert for your awesome set as usual. As a native Minnesotan, the intro mixed with a booming techno track speaks to me. For the people disagreeing with him playing the intro, try listening and accepting more because that's a part of the problem.

Agree, just had the same when the set was peaking
I somewhat feel bad by using an adblocker, but a lot of what i 'watch' on youtube is Dj mixes, or live metal concerts. I often have them minimized while play my games late at night. When ads come in they are often at a far higher volume than I've my audio for, and are simply horrible.

@@EasyTigerAl Yeah I had no idea at the time, got some semblance of 'photos' if you want to call them that. The mind wasn't quite all there for stable hands. It was fucking wild in the most concise of terms. Farmfest for sure, as everyone was acting like an animal; albeit very friendly with not a single bad vibe.
