As one of the founding members of the legendary Detroit techno crew Underground Resistance - alongside Mad Mike Banks and Jeff Mills - Robert Hood’s legacy in the electronic music world is almost peerless. As well as pioneering the minimal techno sound with his 1994 LP Minimal Nation, he’s released on techno mainstays such as Metroplex and Jeff Mills’ Axis label, set up the Hardwax label and operates seminal techno label M-Plant - through which he’s released dozens of his own records, under his own name and as Floorplan. 2013’s Paradise LP as Floorplan was a volt-face in Hood’s musical story; the soulfulness of his minimal sound given new, hot-blooded life. It's this new life that keeps him a key figure in techno today.

I cant believe this was 10 Years ago. Incredible Interview, Robert Hood Changed my Life. this interview is shaping my 2025. I'm not even half way through it and my Jaw just keeps dropping.
I think we can all agree this guy is probably the best person in the world
Well said Tom
My favorite American techno producer and I still remember the last time I had the privilege of hearing at a Victorian event where he djayed back when records were still the main techno format Fred(eee)ricK and he loves and me too Franky knuckles the whistle house track r.i.p. FreD(E)RicK 2022...
Love it
Wow, the way he got emotional at 17:30. Lots of respect for that guy.
Humans get emotional its the nature. It doesnt have anything to do with his music. Fucking moron
Charitha Heshan I think he wanted to write "LOTS of respect ..."
deathbyjock oh I'm sorry lol now I'm an asshole . thanks
Charitha Heshan that's exactly what I wanted to write. I didn't even notice my typo, so I didn't understand why would you respond like that. haha
Exactly my sentiment, yes, sure humans get emotional, but not all have the courage, and at this point in time, the sensitivity to do so. And sensitivity, have everything to do with Art, sorry. So i double your comment, bro. RESPECT
''Not make everybody in the club go crazy but to have that one guy back in the room to lose it'' - yep that was me in Atak:)
Big respect to Robert Hood for mentioning my name with respect and good memories.
Much love for you Haqq 🙏
I was lucky enough to live right right across from Detroit my whole life.
Now at 43, everytime I turn the modular on, I find myself trying to emulate the Robert Hood sound.
💪💪💪💪💪
A very deep, honest and profound lecture. Robert truly is an amazing person and artist, always been.
worked with him early this year change my life and view on music a legend and hero such a nice person to be around

AGREEE Fred(e)ricK
I always love watching these RBMA lectures - This one with Robert was s o intense besides that it`s the first time i`m hearing him speak. The moment he got emotional really had me getting into the same situation as i could feel every word he explained - Now i have even more respect for this guy as he appears more credible to me in his music - Thanks alot for sharing this!
That’s one genuine Detroit Homie! God Bless you Mane!
These lectures are really great. I’ve seen most of them multiple times because they are just great!
Wow such a very wide ranging and terrific interview with much about his music, roots, personal experiences and more, with some specific bits that are really interesting to a techno head from the early 90's. this is great

never knew Robert had a hip-hop history, what a G indeed!
randev nasty more surprising is that matrixxman began in hip hop
that's cool man! i've always though hip-hop and techno have a lot in common
It's great to see Robert speak openly about his faith.
17:30 here's why techno is beautiful
Robert, Mike, and Jeff... wow... that X-101 track gets me every time. Can't wait for the OG vinyl to arrive in the mail. I recently got UR "Revolution for Change" 2xLP, but only received one LP! Now I gotta search for the other one! Sheesh! Thank these guys for enlightening my musical vision. Every time I plug in my machines, it is informed by the work of these men. Absolutely love it.

100%%
much much love for this man and the depth of his feelings made manifest in his work. a singular gift he is!
He talks about sparseness and empty space and equates it with feeling the holy ghost. I think that speaks to the importance of leaving headroom and breathing room in between tracks. Gotta leave room for the holy ghost. :)
Thank you Robert
Best DJ and Best Preacher in the world.. when he reference David and Goliath for Music Productions. a lightbulb lit on in my head!!! Brilliant Metaphor
his descriptions of techno music are second to none
FReD(e)RiCK
Always been amazed by Robert Hood. His presence is so strong when he talks. Huge inspiration!
So much respect and love, what a beautiful person he is
Funny to see the interviewer's face when Robert starts his talks about God and the Holy Spirit :)
exactly my thought ! hahaha
i might believe in God too if i survived a bullet to the head
Yep, dude wasn’t expecting Robert Hood being bold about the Gospel
Such a pleasure to watch this, cleverly conducted.
Deep inspiration to search on Robert Hood´s methods.
Thanks for the upload!
wow emotional lots of respect for that guy
The "unidentified Rob Noise song" at 3:09 is 'Sins Against The Race' off 1990's 'Hype Stuff' compilation.
Thank you! Will update
absolute legend of the highest order....
A very interesting interview. Not what I expected. Thanks ;-)
Oh man! This man is the real deal! When he played NEVER GROW OLD, am like, shit I have this gem in my ipod! I love it
My dog is called socks . He keeps himself clean. Bless you Mr Hood . Thanks for the music ❤
His first track from back in the day is really good. You can hear a lot of his style in there.
Praise God for this man.
giving this man his flowers rn - an amazing artist, human being, father and role model.
41:20 .. Magic : "The church to the club" mood.
UR and affiliates described as “Sonic Terrorists” by Mr Hood, perfectly articulated.
He’s a true genius and pioneer of electronic music
RESPECT TO ROBERT HOOD ✊✊✊✊✊✊✊✊✊✊✊
Yeah I second that Fred(E)ricK 2022 !!!

Long live king Rob !

major respect for this dude!!!
Robert H❤️❤️D
Robert hood is amazing, the minimal king!!!!
Respect, in the presence of an absolute legend ✊🏾
Guru number 1 for me in hiphop! agree with Robert on this one
When you can connect with your productions and the aspect of it, spiritually, as many brothers who created the sounds do and still do. Thats where it becomes ever lasting. From Hood to Todd Edwards. There's a process to making good music and its not copying others but finding an angle of creativity. If you're not able to do that with music, leave it well alone. Leave it to us who know how this works
You really can hear Robert Hood in the The Temptations intro. Wowser!
Preacher Man!
What a massive g
I was in a party in 2002 ( i think) in Madrid, in Festimad at night, both with Luke Slater and what a party, was good.
Rob must be protected at all costs!
The best and still produces the best techno AGREE from FRED(e)rick
robert hood real as fuck. So much respect
Hood seems like a nice guy
I've always felt like Hood was a talented producer, but I feel like his place in history and his eloquence in discussing that place and discussing the music are more interesting than the actual music itself. I feel the same way about Jeff Mills. I like both, but they're deeper as humans than they are as musicians.
bh617 -We’ll peeped!
The music is a reflection of themselves. A good point but to listen keenly would be the purpose of these two tbh
he's fucking right about hi hats as well
Gang starr in the house! Rip guru big up preemo!!
the real boss
Wow... Tom Hanks commenting on Rob Hood. My mind is blown.
sorry have I missed something? where is this? I haven't watched the interview yet
+housebrigade
no, you've missed nothing. somewhere in this thread of comments the real Tom Hanks commented on this.
lol on Iv just seen it. 5 mins ago I even started googling "Tom hanks robert hood" thinking Tom was a fan haha
i love this.
Well deserved gold Rolex!
"I want you to put the Gospel of Jesus Christ in this music"
“If you stand before others and are willing to say you believe in me, then I will tell my Father in heaven that you belong to me. 33 But if you stand before others and say you do not believe in me, then I will tell my Father in heaven that you do not belong to me."
Mad respect for this brother in Christ.
54:57 - on communicating without words in techno.
Yes !
thx for this
Does anyone know the name of the book he talks about that gave him the idea for monobox?
What’s the vocal line from 16:44 to 16:47?
Favourite producer but GOD damn😂
27:40 Robert Hood - One Touch - Minimal Nation
This guy at 40:51 is shazaming the shit out of that track
didn't know the king of techno got shot back in the day... damn
FrEd(e)rIcK 2020 !!!
Where does the UR live footage come from?
Rick M - Live in N.Y circa:91/2 (On their first Lp)
its footage from a party in Vienna (Austria) in July '92. event was called Public Tranceport
A good Victoria DJ friend djayed in Detroit a far while ago respect Fred(e)RicK

C.W. P.b.p 2022
Lovelee Robert hood's floorplan lable !!! And the track *he's worthy ** FreD(e)RicK
FReD(e))RiCK
FrEd(e)RiCk
who is the interviewer here?
what is the id for the first track ?
ok, I find it. Robert Noise - Sins Against The Race (1990)
Very disappointing to see that only a few minutes of the interview were devoted to Hood's minimal techno productions. These represent several productive years and labels on which he has released some of his greatest musical contributions. Nothing about "Internal empire" or "M-Plant". The interviewer also destroyed the whole point of "One Touch" by only letting it play for only a minute or so. Next time you do an interview with a minimal techno artist, let it be done by someone who actually likes that music.
This dude always wrecks every interview, he was trying to “school” Ricardo Villalobos and Donato Dozzy in his RA podcast interviews, probably some nepo baby or something, this dude is a pseudo music nerd, thank God Robert Hood has grace and wits
36:02 Didn't get the name of this godfather of house music
DJ Ken Collier.
I remember hearing him at a Matt ratovich event Fred(e)ricK ***
(01:10:10 ) Q & A: questions only by participants? WTF? suggar-coffein-bubble-bath-soda-elitism?
where did he talk about hi hats
At the start and just before q&a.
Puffing Billeee PossEEe 2022
Wow, this interviewer could not be less enthusiastic/charismatic
He is interviewing, not cheerleading you moron
