IMPORTANT: those that are light/photosensitive should look away, until I mention another game, when I advise this in the video, as there are some visual glitches that produce some wired patterns of light. Kernel 6.13 paired with mesa 25 should bring more fixes, so stay tuned for an update regarding the b580 in Linux.
Your linux videos are really interesting. Looking forward to seeing how the drivers improve for this card on both Linux and Windows in your future videos.
Thanks for the video :) I'll be sharing it around as I know some users bought a b580 for Linux, I hope Intel's Linux team work hard on getting gaming ready on Linux as it would be nice to get one at some point
very excited for the 6.13/mesa 25 update video as I'm still holding on to buy an Intel GPU. my biggest deal breaker are the XeSS issues and Intel on Linux still not using the XMX accelerated path for XeSS. on Linux Intel is still using the fallback path, like any non-Intel GPU.
Yes. The performance seems to be ok, at least in the games that had no glitches. I'm actually looking forward to see what the updated kernel and mesa drivers fix. I truly hope that it will fix a lot of the issues encountered in this video.
This is super brand new hardware, Linux is generally slow with supporting new hardware compared to Windows. But once the drivers are mature its perfectly fine. I remember when RDNA 3 first launched a ton of people had issues with their shiny new GPUs on Linux but now its perfectly fine.
Yes, I did expect this, and this is why I will do a follow-up. I will cover RDNA 4 and the 5000 series from Nvidia, once those are out. I just shared the experience
It'd be great if you could come back to Battlemage in a couple of weeks when 6.14 hits stable and Mesa updates rolled out for everyone as well. I'm really interested in Battlemage.
Thanks for doing this one, I have been curious how the new Intel cards would perform. I hope they improve the driver, which I assume they will do in short order. Intel isn't Nvidia in that regard.
Hopefully Intel will improve their drivers as I think their pricing, at least the B580, is ok. Here in Europe the prices are above 300 euro, while in the US a lot less.
The Intel guy (forget his name) rockstar they poached from Nvidia, said as much the other day ' We stopped working on Battlemage drivers and the core team and most of the rest are focused on celestial development. Battlemage is finished. So they might polish this driver with a rag and spit shine, but I mean. Go read his comments. Also, he said this before Intel pushed the CEO out the back door like he had ebola virus and backdated his firing to December 1st from the 3rd. I would NOT touch anything Intel right now, with a BARGE pole.
I can confirm massive problems on Linux, but Hitman 3 runs fine. Unreal Engine Games works, but with some graphic gliches, e.g. Silent Hill 2. Raytracing often come with problems. Encoder (e.g. AV1 for OBS) need special driver from Intel Graphics Preview PPA.
That is the state of Intel GPUs on linux. I think in some time, the drivers will improve. I have high hopes for the updates coming soon. I hope those will bring much improvements, fingers crossed 🤞
Good to know, I tried a few games with different solutions, and I had more or less the same is results. I will give it another shot when the new kernel is available alongside mesa 25.
I have found that games where i can forece the use of directX instead of Vulkan i get most of my games to run (not all), like Red Dead Redemption 2 is running alot smoother that way. Oh Yeah i got a Asrock Intel Arc A770 16gb.
TIL: endeavour OS exists. Also, yea Linux gaming is not as mature as windows gaming. I remember my buddy when Windows Gaming became a thing saying " DOS4GW' RULEZ and always will... that aged like milk in the sun. Linux is about to explode in popularity. Microsoft seems to WANT it to by making WINDOWS SUCK more each and everyday. 100 Million Personal Health records leaked by Microsoft AI last week....
I think that is the biggest issue right now. Windows 11 collects too much data, and sooner or later one of this big companies will have a data breach. Nowadays a lot of companies handle oir private data, reducing the number is better in my opinion. And now Windows is a training ground for their AI. To be honest paying to be monitored is kinda bad, at least this is my opinion

This is the plan, to cover Intel GPUs as well.

Hopefully Kernel 6.13 + Mesa 25 will improve things.
ok but those glitches are hilarious :D Quake inside Horizon
Not if you have the card and you want to play games in Linux :)

This is what I've said in the video, that I will do another comparison when kernel 6.13 is released alongside mesa 25
@casuallygamin9 Yup, just underlining your words 😅
progress is progress 🥰 good vid btw.
thanks
Really great video, i hope that 6.13 kernel fixes most issues.
I'll be checking for sure
The Finals' DirectX 12 sometimes has issues on Linux. It's better to force it to use DirectX 11 ("-dx11") if any problems occur.
Thanks, I was not aware

I will test again with again when the 6.13 kernel si available alongside mesa 25

In Europe the B580 is not that cheap, hovering at around 320 Euros here in Spain

U can install arch and then run a command to get cachyos repos
That is true
you can just install cachy os btw

I'm curious, on Linux, using an Intel Arc GPU, glitches like I see in this video are the norm?
Seems that, for now, Intel GPUs are more of a miss for gaming
I got glitches in linux with arc a380 sometimes using tsr or fsr would clear the glitches. Xess in linux was junk.
Good to know, I tried a few games with different solutions, and I had more or less the same is results. I will give it another shot when the new kernel is available alongside mesa 25.
what about dxvk tests on windows on older games like dx9-10 games?
I will test some when I do a proper review of the card
I have found that games where i can forece the use of directX instead of Vulkan i get most of my games to run (not all), like Red Dead Redemption 2 is running alot smoother that way.
Oh Yeah i got a Asrock Intel Arc A770 16gb.
I didn't know that, I will keep that in mind for the next time I check Intel in Linux

It is quite a popular Arch based distro, a really good one :)

Well, that's lame
Let's hope that this is for the moment
Can you compare gaming in linux mint and windows ❤. Love your videos and subscribed.
I did compare it in a previous video, but I was using a Nvidia GPU, the 4080 Super to be more precise
