      As long as Audi makes the drive train front wheel biased it'll always be cleaning up BMW's table scraps. Had a B7 RS4 and its engine was glorious, but it still wanted to push because that V8 hung halfway in from of the axle. The RS3 doesn't have this issue but this front biased nonsense for a performance car is just not a lot of fun for the driver despite clever electronics. BMW's driving dynamics have always been leaps and bounds above Audi's having owned both RS and M cars imo, but you're right on the price point. The better direct comparison would be the M2C which is a better performance car as well over any RS saloon, avant or coupe(R8 not with standing).

The M3c with similar options is $90k+ easy. $20,000 price difference. I actually felt like I could whip around traffic more in my S3 than I can in my M2. The interior was WAY nicer, and the stereo systems can't even be compared. The B&O is infinitely better. Funnily enough, both these cars have been on my radar, I've owned an Audi A4 3.0 quattro and enjoyed it a fair bit (thanks to the optional Sports Diff), but I've also had an M135i and an M4 (F82) and enjoyed them much more. They aren't aimed at the same market, I get that, but you get a feel for what suits you best in a general way. I've long loved the 5 cylinder warble and really do rate the RS3 saloon looks, but in the end the M3 Xdrive won me over and I've got one on order :) I've gone for poverty spec with only £1,500 of options (which I realise is still a huge amount of money however you look at it) and managed to receive a very handsome discount, something that Audi just didn't want to entertain. So for me these two cars are not so far away from each other in cost, strangely enough and the standard spec on the M3 is extremely high in the first place (at least it is in the UK as we only get a well stocked Competition variant as standard). I think it's a valid comparison as it seem to demonstrate, at least in the eyes of the testers, that spending, comparatively speaking, a little more (and taking real world discounts into account) that the M3 on this occasion was the better car to own overall. I suspect my previous M4 would have lost a test against the RS3 as a car that likes to try and kill you on occasion, is not seen a favourable characteristic it appears :D

    RS3 is M2 class, not M3/4. It would still lose to the M2 if you're after chassis dynamics, but it would be a fairer comparison.

      I don't think that is as much a fore gone conclusion as you may think, having now driven one, its mightily impressive and actually brilliant fun pushing on in mid wales.

      Indeed, but even then, they aren’t direct rivals.
      If the S3 competes with the M235i Gran Coupé and the A35/CLA35 AMG, the RS3 would compete with the CLA45 AMG. As much as I didn’t like the 2 series Gran Coupé, i actually really enjoyed driving it and it got me thinking what it would be like if they made an M2 Gran Coupé. Not sure how an inline 6 would fit, but it would be a proper competitor for the RS3 and definitely more so than the M2 is. At least the M2 Comp.

      RS3 just kills M2 at Nurburgring.
      7:35.5 even for M2 CS is out of it range.
      Audi did an amazing job with the new RS3.

      @@acocietoo4372 LOL what nonsense is this. Theres no way a stock RS3 can do 7.35. If so I'm guessing Audi put one on cup 2 tyres with a pro driver, gave it an ECU tune, took the rear seats out etc etc. Il have to have a look. The understeer is disgusting. That's why no one tracks them. They have a nice engine that's it.

    • @TeacherToolkitDemo
      @TeacherToolkitDemo 2 года назад

      @@acocietoo4372 i just checked and it did 7.41. So I don't know where you got that crack pot time from. And I don't even know if that was a full lap. And it was perfect conditions on cup 2 tyres. The M2 CS on cup 2 tyres will go faster than that and that's the old platform.

    M3xdrive is definitely the way to go and it comes from someone who owns an Audi rs3.I opted for Audi simply (as lot of people in my situation) because of the daily driving because unfortunately where I live the roads are a disaster and we have weather conditions (rain/snow) so the RWD is a disaster on trip. Audi is notoriously expensive on options,unfortunately you have to take because the basic version looks like crap. yeah,the 5-cyl engine sounds fantastic but if you are in to "sporty" driving experience bmw is far more superior.

      I agree living in Ohio, Audi was charging 10k over msrp for the rs3 in late 2022. I paid sticker for my 2023 m3 comp xdrive. I couldn’t be happier, unless my c8 z06 comes in soon 😉

      @@OneTwoThreePunchdon’t pay over sticker for z06. They’re ramping up production for the z and car market is going down. Some dealers even had stingray c8 for 3k under msrp lol

    I own a 2018 RS3 and I have also test driven the 2023 M3C. The M3 is obliviously much more refined in many ways as you would expect and packs a good punch. What turned me off of the M3 was simply it felt heavier, a little too large for my needs, the lack of sound from the exhaust and the front end styling. Having said all this, I would consider the BMW next time around but more in the M2 size category. It seems like the new BMW 3 series cars have gotten much larger than years gone past.

    • @MikeyG003

      Yeahh all the newer cars just too heavy and large. I don’t like big heavy cars either, that’s why I’m keeping my f80 for a while longer lol. 3580 pounds and ~600 crank hp not bad 😂
