  • The 2021 BMW M3 xDrive is finally here - the world's first (official) four-wheel-drive BMW M3. And boy, wouldn't you have guessed… it's better than the rear-wheel-drive one. Watch the video to find out why, and also enjoy a walkaround, a bit of puerile toilet humour and me getting cold.

    The xDrive M3 Touring. I think that's probably going to be the pinnacle of petrol cars. You won't be able to get a better daily driver, and it'll be the last. Hope I can get my hands on one one day.

    I can't help but think that when BMW offers you the option of RWD or the xDrive AWD version, anybody who makes a decision based on RWD Vs AWD arguments is just cutting their nose to spite their face.
    Choose a version based on how it feels when you drive it. Choose it based on which handles your driving area better. But don't choose it based on "Ma purity" or "Ma launch traction".

      Exactly…. It’s not about “which is best” it’s actually about which fits your lifestyle and desires better. I had a DCT and a 6MT version of the F80. I got the DCT initially for better performance but driving the manual was more enjoyable, despite feeling slower.

    Great video, thank you.I’ve had my x drive m3 now for 4 weeks and love it. All I’ve done so far is use it as my daily and taxi for the kids and it’s great, no issues whatsoever from a comfort or practicality point of view. Wouldn’t have got it if it wasn’t so good as a daily. Big thumbs up for the x drive version 👍

      If you have purchased this car on PCP would you share your payments? I have only had a look around online so far and the future value prices all seem to be quite low, around 30k in four years which is making the monthly payments quite high...

    • @bengisborne51
      @bengisborne51 2 года назад +1

      @@chickenballpizza4902 hi, I won’t give specifics but essentially you’re exactly right. The residual is c.£30, I had a set monthly budget I wanted to meet but could be flexible on the amount I put in, so put in more to meet my monthly budget. I took advantage of the bmw apr% for new m cars 3.9%, which is why I went for brand new as the best second hand rate was 6.9% that meant around the same monthly’s as new, so no point for me. The way I look at it is, £32k for a 4 year old m3 is low IMO, so should mean equity in the car and if not I’m very lucky that I can afford to buy it outright at that point, as I won’t be messed around by dealers saying I have zero in it after 4 years when’s it’s a value of £32k. I believe a good m3 will be £40k minimum as it’ll have very low mileage. But who knows thats the gamble I guess.
      Sorry I can’t be more specific, hope this helps and you get yours soon, you won’t regret it great car.

    • @chickenballpizza4902
      @chickenballpizza4902 2 года назад

      @@bengisborne51 Cheers Ben, I have seen the same thing with the APR. The best 'deal' I have seen is a 3k dealer contribution and a 32k GFV at 3.9%. I was hoping face to face deals would be offering a bit higher on the GFV. I would agree, and if you look around at 4 year old M3s now, decent ones are sitting at over 40k, BMW themselves have one for sale at 47k. How long did you have to wait from ordering?

    • @bengisborne51
      @bengisborne51 2 года назад +1

      @@chickenballpizza4902 that dealer contribution is good, I got just under £3k contribution but that was putting a deal on the table just before month end and said take it or leave it and they said if it’s done (finance completed) before month end then it’s a goer, so that worked out.
      I also didn’t order I went on autotrader and searched for brand new and out of the 15 available brand new, I choose the one with the spec I wanted and enquired. I had to travel to a bmw dealer far away from me. Out of c.15 brand new available a lot are over priced due to lack of supply but there were two / three I found in October that were the proper price and not inflated and a spec I liked and then I pursued them.
      The only other thing I’d advise is going through magnitude finance or Charles & dean finance and getting a second hand option. This way you’ll have more choice, it’ll be c. £10k cheaper with some depreciation knocked off and the non bmw finance companies will probably give you a higher residual to bring monthly’s down. These companies will tailor an offer to you and are recommended. The only negative is it’ll be lowest 5.9% apr.
      Good luck hope you get yours soon, when you do reply with a photo 👍

    Because of my age I'm riding into the sunset in my OG M2. I love it. If the younger guys want stoplight glory, X-Drive is the option to have. Taking a step back, RWD is old-school and traditional. Both are good of course but I'd choose old-school.

    I could ignore Joe Achilles and StefAB, because let's face it they're not journalists.
    I even ignored Steve Sutcliffe as he was just finished thrashing it on the Bedford hot lap.
    But when Tim Rodie says it, you can't ignore it. The AWD is better than the RWD.
    What hurts most is my RWD gets delivered a week on Wednesday.
    BTW, my mum's house is plenty big enough and it's actually an Eunos Roadster.

    Hey Tim, Great review. I took delivery of my 2022 M3 Xdrive version on December 22 and its an absolute dream. Carbon buckets are a must and for the purist in me that is just right. Only negative is the feed back given through the wheel. you really have to pay attention to the geography of the road for those off-camber turns and turn in because the steering feels so light, even with everything in sport plus. The only thing I wish my car had was the updated vintage badges. Other than that, I believe it is the best evolution M3 ever. and Ive owned and driven them all. If anyone has the part number for them I would love to know.

    I'm not a purist or anything like that, but I did opt for a RWD M3. My list of desires for a car starting with most desirable is wagon, manual, and AWD. Ideally all three of those things would exist in my car, but that's not going to happen for the US market. So I went with manual over AWD. I love my car and I'm happy I was able to sit down with my dealer and spec it the way I wanted. Now if BMW shifts its position and allows the touring model in the US, I will happily opt for AWD and wagon over my choice for a manual box. Cheers and great review!!!

    I just got my production number for my M3 2023 base model (Manual). Why I chose the base you might ask? I own a M340xi, amazing all wheel drive, and I push the limit of this car as much as I can handle...its 382 ponies; About 115 to 120 miles per hour, that steering begins to get really scary, even with the setting at the stiffest....almost no feed back at that point, then you have to trust the electronics.....there is where my confidence ends and I let go off the gas. I did not get the M3 x-drive cos I already have an x-drive and it met all my expectations and above, EXCEPT: "No Manual". If my M340xi was Manual I will not even take a sec. look at the M3 to be sincere. So I am paying top $$$ just to drive a sports manual machine one last time, not for the 4xx power or 5xx power, but the engagement.
