Coral Reef in Texas?? MV Fling Part 1

Come with me as I dive on one of the healthiest reefs in the Western Hemisphere. Believe it or not, this reef is off of the coast of Texas. This is the Flower Garden Banks National Marine Sanctuary located more than 100 miles off shore directly south of Galveston TX and we travelled there aboard the liveaboard dive boat known as the MV Fling.

I was born and grew up In Galveston. I moved away and have dived all over Florida, the Virgin Islands and the south Pacific but never knew this existed. I guess I will check it out next time Im in Galveston visiting family.👍

You really should, the coral cover is actually better than the other two places you listed….except for the south of course

I've done a lot of dives off that boat, and the other that used to run, the MV Spree. It's a beautiful dive, and on rare occasions we've seen whale sharks. The weather can be unpredictable, and when the seas start picking up, getting onboard the rear dive ladder can be quite the challenge... waiting for the boat to plunge downward, the ladder plunging down in the water, grabbing onto the ladder as it rips you out of the ocean when the boat goes back up.
