      Can you please help me out and let me know approximately how long to make the base strings, cuz I don't want to make them really long and waste a bunch of thread

    • @garythelifesquirrel3066
      @garythelifesquirrel3066 4 года назад +3

      Alivia Kinkin make them however long the bracelet itself is going to be. Try the length of your arm! It seems like a bit much, but it gives you room for ties, and if you should make a mistake that causes you to cut your strings. Actually, I started an alpha last night, and had to undo it twice. Then when I started again, my leading string broke. Thankfully, I made it arm-length, and cut it off. I still have room! Just to be clear, do the length of ONE arm, not both. Sorry it’s long, but hope it helps!

    • @garythelifesquirrel3066
      @garythelifesquirrel3066 4 года назад +1

      Alivia Kinkin and, you can save extra thread for alphas! If you only need a few knots of one color, it works great!

    I've always been intimidated by alpha bracelets mainly because I don't want to use to much thread at once for the background or whatever it is in the pattern. Lots of beautiful patterns like this one require double-digit rows, and I just don't want to use so much 😅 I'm so cheap. However, I do want to give it a try. Thank you for making this video!

    • @MashaKnots
      @MashaKnots  5 лет назад +23

      Oh I can totally relate! Honestly, despite the fact that I want the ties to be the same colour as the background, it still pains me to cut that much string just for the base :D And I'm glad you enjoyed it :)

Plus, i could always silently leave it at my city’s art gallery once i’m finished. ;) i do it for the rebellious art life, rather than for funds lol

    Awesome video! I had learned how to do alphas from a different video, but you explained it much more understandable. One thing I did notice you do differently is when I was taught, it said when you change color, you take your current weaving string and group it with your next string, and tie a knot onto both strings as if it was one. You don't seem to do that,do you know if that is that a a technique for certain kinds of alphas? Or just an extra step that I don't need lol. It doesn't seem to effect the bracelet at all from what I can tell though. ^_^ Thanks!
