Very informative and comprehensive review. I crashed and ruined my first one in about 5 minutes in the garage. I failed to calibrate it. I was able to get some hover time to adjust trim, but it was too drifty without the calibration and I bent the rotor assembly/shaft on a crash. Hi Brian, I've been following you a long time a go. I Really love your channel. I like the way how you review the RC it so very detailed and well explained especially the Unboxing. Thanks for this review. Mine is arriving today. Waiting to deliver at my door. Great video Brian. Two thumbs up 👍👍
Great video thanks Brian. I think the skids look in scale- there is a high skid and low skid version for the Md500s and MD 530s so this model is a high skid one. Looks fantastic and nice flying.👍👍
Yes, and I stand corrected. I spend a some time researching this heli (the MD500) after filming, and the skids ARE SCALE, plus this FULL SCALE heli is AWESOME in real life...make me wish I had a helicopter endorsement (and a few million bucks too - LOL), since this heli would fit in a small garage!!!!
wonderful I liked it a lot! Do you think it is possible to install a flysky receiver and control? Is it possible to install a higher quality esc? I'm a little suspicious of the quality of the stock electronics... thanks for sharing
Guys, a couple of things. Wish you would spend a little more time inside the fuselage, talking about the mechanics and electronics, motor etc.. Do you know if the radio will hold on (store) the trim settings you put into the Heli or do you lose them when the radio is turned off? Thanks for your time and effort. Really like your stuff!
Trim is generally stored on the Tx, not the heli. Some more sophisticated heli's might store some settings on the Rx/Flight controller, but way over this echelon of heli. As for sharing what's inside the heli...yeah, I get it, but on these RTF heli's, you don't always have great access inside the body, without taking it all apart, which I only do when I'm fixing crash damage ;)
Yeah it arrived today mate,I tried a flight indoors big mistake lol,now got marked rotors lol but next flight I tried in a big car park, this time awesome,it's a bloody awesome helicopter but just don't fly it indoors lol,but I'm loving it ❤
I love your videos, been watching for some time, you're fair honest and explanation of the product. Don't know if you'll respond to this, but I have a question. Can GPS be added to this c189, if so how? Keep up the good work thank you.
Thanks so much for the kind words. As for adding GPS to the C189, I don't know that you can, but to be frank, you can do anything you set your mind too... there are tons of these "Drone" heli's out these days, and while they're usually a bit bigger than this C189, you might be able to steal a flight controller and get in into one of these heli's. It would be a TON of work, but if you NEEDED to do it to get off a desert island, I suspect you could do it. Here's some examples of "Drone Helis"... bprc.me/Flywing_FW450
@@BrianPhillipsRCwould not be that I was just curious. I have had experience with RC helicopters, and fix when you aircraft I've been in the hobby since about 10 years old 1967. Everything then was stick built and paper and dope covering. Got into it a little bit later. As you said life comes along we get out of it and we want to get back into it. I am grateful for your channel. I tried to order the C189 through your affiliate link, but my bank's security protection blocked my transaction. I will call the bank tomorrow and see if I can fix that. Didn't expect your response today during our great holiday. I love helicopters I was a crew chief in the Marines in the '70s. Thank you again, keep up the great work.
At Banggood i got it for just €150 and i love it! There are bugs in some batches tho. I had a friend buy one and take off on his 1st go finding the heli not stabilizing but going into space. Like the optical flow was not kicking in. It crashed ofcourse but i hope he gets a new one soon so we can fly together.
I assembled the rocket pods, and the tube portion, and mounted them backWARDS. The long part of the tube is towards the back. Do you believe this will throw the CG off? I have flown the model and it flies fine. But I noticed that yours and mine do the toilet bowl wobble. If you leave them off it looks corny. So I have them on but was just wondering about the rocket tubes.
In the UK especially London all the Hobby shops have closed down so my local hobby shop with brilliant would help you out with anything I had a slip pull start somehow it fixed itself some idiot bought really crappy glow plugs ended up bust in my engine so I was wondering if there was any tricks or how to fix so I can screw the glow plug back in HBI trophy waterproof nice car buggy proper basher just need a little bit help
I just purchased the red MD500 due to the fact I like these models. I have a 600 MD500 and not a beginner. Your video was right on the money. Drifts and jittery. But the heli looks awesome.
This heli has been out for quite awhile now and I know it can bind to a Radiomaster or similar multiprotocol TX but no one is talking about that yet which is frustrating. I just want to know what settings can be modified or adjusted with a proper hobby grade TX. I'm sure that it could be set up to fly amazing well with one of them, maybe even turn off the altitude hold and adjust a boat load of other settings? Don't know, seems that it's top secret at the moment. :(
I think I saw some info on those settings on channel alishanmao. Just search, he has couple vids on this heli, it's in one of those in the descripton or comments.
Thanks Brian for all the info vids . So my new RC heli. RTF purchased. Keeps just stopping and falling out of the sky , after a couple mins of smooth flight. Why do you think that's happening? Any advise will help. I've checked all the batteries, connections etc. Everything that way seems ok.
There's an older movie out I think from the 70's called "Birds of Prey" with David Janssen. Pretty cool movie with lots of flying of Hughes 500C model I think and Aerospatiale Lama. Good one to check out if you like that sort of thing.
The RC Saylors demonstrated this particular model. It took off straight up without warning and had to be brought down with a kill switch, causing it to crash and be damaged. There went a $250.00 helicopter. 😢
For those who plan to buy one: Just finished assembling (and flying) mine. About the time I put the 11th (out of 12) microscopic screws into just one side of the rocket pods, I realized that I should have just glued them. Result: The first rocket pod took me 45 minutes of back-breaking close-up work; the second took me 7 minutes. I glued the guns & rocket pods together, and glued them into the bottom of the wing, then used the last 4 screws to mount them. Or, just leave 'em off. (If you've seen this comment elsewhere, I'm adding it to every (in-depth) review of this heli; also, apologies if I'm repeating an earlier comment.)
Cool looking bird. Pilots please take off and land. Auto takeoff/land for what? Why not auto fly? You're a pilot not a spectator. Learning these two skills is a great way at becoming more subtle at the sticks and it's really fun especially for a scale heli. Learning ground effects makes you really good at reacting to issues you may run into when flying. Thx for flying helis Brian.
Agreed. Auto-land is a terrible idea. In the plane world, nothing beats the feeling of greasing a landing with your beloved plane. I couldn't even imagine surrendering that experience to a computer program...
@@myksanchez1222 I totally agree. When I fly a plane I can't decide if I like landing better than flying. It's a toss up. For a heli a greased landing is so gentle you would not be able to feel the ground if you were a passenger. But for small helis practicing landings in the house is sooo much fun. Imagining little missions, does it ever get old?
do they sell individual part replacement? esc boards, motor, mechanical linkage wear parts etc etc..... i know this is toy grade at ~ $200 ...or is it bettery to buy a heli from horizonhobby with local parts support ?
Just wondering if you have more time to put into flying this because it was fine and fun until after 10 flights. Ticking time bomb? the fly away finally happened to me this weekend. only thing I was able to do was hit the stop button. I walked away with broken blades a tail boom and stripped main gears. The landing skids and rocket pods took a beating as you can see the impact stress marks but managed to stay intact. I did the usual upon start up bind, calibrate and engine start. I throttled up and boom she shot straight up no controls. I did a few ground tests with the stripped gears and I held onto the heli with 1 hand while I got the rotors to spool up and hit the throttle and it went full throttle on me while holding it in my hand. Hitting the stop button was all that could be done to stop it. I did this a few more times and out of 10 attempts I was able to get 1 good one being able to control and reduce throttle. There was 1 other time during the testing it went full throttle on it's own after spool up it didn't give me time to hold onto the tail boom and I immediately hit stop a few feet in the air. I think I got around 10 consecutive great flights with this before this happened. I really thought I lucked out and got a good one. Such a shame I was really enjoying flying this but I did have a weird feeling I even made sure to slap on a return address label on it just in case and wallah now I've become one of the fly away members.
I saw Nate (RCSaylors) had this happen, and believe what you're saying, but don't understand why this happens. I wonder if the cheap TX has an issue with the THROTTLE STICK? Can you look into that? Are you gonna see about a warranty replacement?
@@BrianPhillipsRC I'm working with people in the RCGroups forums and basically stated there was a batch of bad boards with gyro's and to simply replace them. It's a $20 part. I went to Aliexpress and they said it was past the warranty as they only have a 15 day period. told me to go after the seller Ace RC House and the seller requested a video which I sent and that was the last I heard from them.
@@BrianPhillipsRC okay $20 later and a replacement board with gyro. I purchased from RC Era store. First flight went as expected no fly away issues. Birds back in the air crossing fingers hope this fixed it permanently. Oh BTW, Nate never replies to any of my comments :/
Awesome hey ....my all time favorite helicopters the md 500 and the egg shaped one is my favorite of the two .magnum pi. I actually built two of the larger scale fuselages of both years back with 450 internals .wich is just a unrealistic acrobatic style heli with canopy off.. / skids . But I never flew either ended up selling them. But the tech safe wasn't out then.. . Be nice to see you take the large 450 scale fuselage magnum pi style the egg and put it together with the cheapest rtr 450 china internals with safe . Best price on fuselage and the heli to install into it. Just for some nice scale flight no acrobatics.. also it would be nice if you could have shown that heli you just unboxed with all the others in size an price range displayed on table so everyone can see offerings an sizes ..hope the pond goes smoothly isn't there a kick back somehow for providing waterfowl with a pit stop sanctuary I mean. .....rite but ya I always loved the guy who outfitted a large rc tank with Fpv and a paintball gun to keep geese out of his pond. Awesome content Bryan . .. but honestly it's all camera girl 🤭👉❤ 🤫
have same bird. In my case it seems that I have adjust the trimming every single time I start a new flight. It does not hold the settings from prior flights.
Hi Brian. Thanks for the nice review on c189. Just maidened mine, decided to use manual takeoff mode at first. I took off OK but then it continued to climb even though I was holding left stick down. Would've been a flyaway but hit a tree limb at about 100ft. up. Only damage was 1 broken main blade after crashing in grass. Next flight I used auto takeoff, all went well. Maybe I need to recalibrate? Or just always use auto takeoff?
I have never used auto take-off. Just be sure to calibrate on level surface prior to flying. This heli is a sweetheart! Maybe if doing a maiden flight put it on a tether so it can't get away but the two I bought never did the flyaway thing but I do cal before each flight and don't fly it in any wind.
Not the way it comes out of the box. It's LOCKED in auto-leveling, which was one of my only complaints about this heli. I do think it flies very nice, but not being able to come out of auto-leveling, is a bummer.
That would be pretty awesome! They come in this Camo and Red/White here - bprc.me/RCEra_C189_MD500_Heli You can also get them in BLACK and OLIVE DRAB as well here - usa.banggood.com/custlink/KKv50yu8iI - but we far prefer working with the above partner.
do you know the highest wind speed the c189 can take ?I think its 7 knots . any higher you might have to land far away. It wont be powerful enought to bring it back. please advise if you know?
I also found that you can bind with a other c189 with one radio control box. I have a c189 attack helicopter and coast guard c189 both will bind to the same radio control unit or TX.but they wont sale you just the c189 by itself.@@BrianPhillipsRC
I dont want to fly the c189 too fast. it may cause a rotor strike.still I am going the fly on low wind speed days I not much on flying inside.@@BrianPhillipsRC
Hi. I've had a Blade CX2 for years and I'm looking for a new helicopter. Between the troubles I have maintaining the CX2 and the knowledge that new helicopters are vastly better it is time to upgrade. I've always wanted to get into scale helicopters and am thinking about this one (I love the MD500) as well as the E120, EC135, and the ESky 300/Blade (I also simp for Airwolf). Probably most likely to go with this C189 or the ESky or Blade version. What I'm wanting is a heli I can fly both indoors and outdoors, one that an old CX2 pilot can handle, and one that has an availability of spare parts so I can keep it flying for years to come. Not looking for 3-D at this point. I'm a little leery about buying direct from China. I'd appreciate any advice you or others can give me at this point in my journey. Any other heli's I should be looking at? My price point is around $200. Thanks!
So, it appears that there are still defective ones still being sold. I just picked one of these up and on the third flight, it just took off up and up and up... had to crash land it as best I could in some tall grass. Minor damage,, but now it only goes one direction... UP. I bought mine through amazon (thank god) and with amazon's help, I am trying to work with the seller to get it replaced or refunded, I would prefer it replaced. I did a thorough dismantle and inspection.. mechanically it is absolutely fine, so the problem is either in the electronics (fc motherboard) or the transmitter (controller) I will know more once I can get the replacement. After that, I will try buying a new fc if there is no resolution to the problems.

I ordered one of these,united kingdom,cheers ❤
AWESOME!
Yeah it arrived today mate,I tried a flight indoors big mistake lol,now got marked rotors lol but next flight I tried in a big car park, this time awesome,it's a bloody awesome helicopter but just don't fly it indoors lol,but I'm loving it ❤
Really impressed with this heli 💯
It look sweet!
@@BrianPhillipsRC Good & stable!!
Great video man, I was thinking of making this my next Heli purchase think you sold me thanks!
I'll definitely buying it from the site thanks.
Thank you for the video! Now i have all the info i need and Im gonna buy it.

18:11 , direct drive brushless motor, that simplifies a lot the manteinance in case of accident
Thanks for another good video! Is the body shell durable or very fragile? Some helis have very fragile body shells. Your answer will be appreciated.
Thanks! What a beauty this heli is! I'd love the red and white one too!!!
Great video 👍👍beautiful heli. Where did u purchase the heli ?? Thank you😀
Link is in the video description ;) bprc.me/RCEra_C189_MD500_Heli
outstanding as always
I ordered another one from Bangood 💯
I've definitely noticed an obvious lack of items arriving in garbage bags from rcgoing. Always a plus 👍
Very true - RCGoing has been way better than BG :)
Very cool
Thanks Brian for all the info vids . So my new RC heli. RTF purchased. Keeps just stopping and falling out of the sky , after a couple mins of smooth flight. Why do you think that's happening? Any advise will help. I've checked all the batteries, connections etc. Everything that way seems ok.
That little guy is sick Brian! Love it man!
#1 Again... 🤣🤣😁😎
There's an older movie out I think from the 70's called "Birds of Prey" with David Janssen. Pretty cool movie with lots of flying of Hughes 500C model I think and Aerospatiale Lama. Good one to check out if you like that sort of thing.
Brian, which heli you prefer this or YUXIANG F07 UH-1 RC Helicopter , bearing in mind this is cheaper - it looks perfectly good!!!
ЭТО ПРОСТО МУХА 🪰
i love your review videos😍😍
The RC Saylors demonstrated this particular model. It took off straight up without warning and had to
be brought down with a kill switch, causing it to crash and be damaged. There went a $250.00 helicopter. 😢
Он такой маленький и звук, как у комара ❤
I'm gonna go for another one which would you suggest C189 MD500 are the F06 EC135?
Super - Modell ! 🙋♂️🇨🇭😄👍
It is!
Hey brian is youtube still giving you trouble? Hope all is well!! Thanks for the content and time you guys put in
so many words for this tiny model....
yes
For those who plan to buy one:
Just finished assembling (and flying) mine.
Thinking of ordering me this one to i have the Coast Guard one but really liking the Military Paint Scheme 💯
Both are very cool.
Nate and Abby just published a vid on this one, yesterday. Their result was quite different… 😂
It's super easy to fly, don't bother with auto take off and land, not needed.
might get one
do they sell individual part replacement? esc boards, motor, mechanical linkage wear parts etc etc..... i know this is toy grade at ~ $200 ...or is it bettery to buy a heli from horizonhobby with local parts support ?
Parts available on Aliexpress.
Oh BTW, Nate never replies to any of my comments :/
zajebisty 😲
:^l hmmm, might tether mine on maiden ...thanks heads up! :^)
It's good to Calibrate it before each flight
...can it carry weight like a GoPro?
Can this do loops, also does it fly in auto level or can it fly like normal CP heli?
Not the way it comes out of the box. It's LOCKED in auto-leveling, which was one of my only complaints about this heli. I do think it flies very nice, but not being able to come out of auto-leveling, is a bummer.
Hi, is it capable of a steep bank maneuver just like on the real version.
I figured it out got mines working
nice!
Good morning can i find one off those in the magnum pi colors
That would be pretty awesome! They come in this Camo and Red/White here - bprc.me/RCEra_C189_MD500_Heli
You can also get them in BLACK and OLIVE DRAB as well here - usa.banggood.com/custlink/KKv50yu8iI - but we far prefer working with the above partner.
do you know the highest wind speed the c189 can take ?I think its 7 knots . any higher you might have to land far away. It wont be powerful enought to bring it back. please advise if you know?
I'm very sorry but don't know. I can say it's easy enough to fly inside...maybe you could just see how fast she'll fly, then use that as your gauge.
I also found that you can bind with a other c189 with one radio control box. I have a c189 attack helicopter and coast guard c189 both will bind to the same radio control unit or TX.but they wont sale you just the c189 by itself.@@BrianPhillipsRC
I have a very large warehouse place to go out side . no trees very open I will try to see on rate 3 to see how much power it has. @@BrianPhillipsRC
I dont want to fly the c189 too fast. it may cause a rotor strike.still I am going the fly on low wind speed days I not much on flying inside.@@BrianPhillipsRC
So what is a good one to fly inside.
LOL Yea that computer can fly that Heli.
Have you experience any fly away yet with this model?
Thanks!
Thanks. Santa Clause will bring this Heli to me :-) 😊😊😊
So, it appears that there are still defective ones still being sold.
Suporta vento esse helicóptero😮😮😮😮😮
