    I feel this is great communication already from the Developers - I think the system sounds good, but it needs more Quality of Life Tweaks then to actually be fun for most players who feel it is daunting at the moment.
    What do you think?

      I don’t think my thoughts have been swayed. Players who play a lot should be potentially over leveled for new content, and of course newer players should have to do older content before doing newer content.

      Combat role specific skills are coming. I think Andrew may have just underestimated how needed they were immediately to help sell his "breadth and depth" system. So many people would feel better if scout had a different unique ability. He also should have added a tutorial upon leaving hopeport to attune a Hopeport weapon to Hopeforest to help explain that mechanic and give players an easier entry into Epidode 2

    There are definitely issues but i adore how combat works personally and their communication.

    The sooner professions have complex interconnectivity (like gathering in Hopewood for alchemy, chopping and cutting weapon parts in hopewood for smithing) is introduced the sooner the skills will feel lile they matter.
    The big issue for me is mainly the extremely specific locations for things like cooking, alchemy, and fishing - there should be more places to brew potions, cook, fish, etc than one building in one town.
    Also the different combat skills NEED to feel distinguished. Currently Guard and Scout are identical in terms of gameplay, one just unlocks later. That feels bad - give me more arrows or different weapons and armor or enemies with mechanics.

  • @projectbonsai8538
    @projectbonsai8538 3 дня назад +1

    i think the solution is to make Guard skill the "Defence" of the game and Scout the "Ranged Archer" skill that can be used in any act, instead of just tieing it into one episode.
    With Fishing, make fishing spots for different regions fish, same for mining.
    Combine Gathering and Forager, it's literally the same thing, there's no reason to have them separate, whenever you gather anything for potions, just make it "Gathering" that's it .
    there is no overlap in skills to different episodes currently, atleast not enough so it would matter :( i hate starting from zero every episode

    I'm just gonna write a list of things i'd love to see:
    1) An auto select armour/weapons option; so the game will automatically equip armour for hopeport when in hopeport, armour for hopeforest when in hopeforest ect ect, this would make people feel less like previous armour is useless, or just find it a hastle to switch.
    2) Changing the name from episodes to zone, stage or something else, this will make people feel less like they are loosing progress.
    3) Different animations depending on which zone you are in, specifically attack animations. This makes it feel like the skills are actually different.
    4) Click minimap to move, idk, i just think it would be useful.
    5) Really just anything that makes 'episodes' feel unique and different.

    I feel ep1 was very fun but very limited in scope and once I got ep2 just felt well not so good. I think I am just going to wait for osrs hd client update and start playing osrs.

    I agree with it not being clear on how the episodes work together. And when you progress the quests all you saw was 50+ stat requirements which is daunting
    I think the side quests could have been spread out across the areas to keep pushing people into the new episodes but episode one and two needed to have something that connects the skilling together because those are the only two free to play episodes at the moment

  • @smithynoir9980
    @smithynoir9980 2 дня назад +1

    Tip: Keep your untuned Guard weapons from Hopeport. Take it to the Obelisk in Hopeforest. They stay scaled at the Guard level they are, still requiring Guard to equip but you'll be able to use it to level Scout in Hopeforest.
    I think the crafting untuned gear in Act 3 needs to be moved into Act 1, perhaps as an extenstion or prelude to The Obelisk quest. Once you can pick and choose your gear from the skill you've leveled, you are taking your skills and weapons from different acts into others and your old skill still feels useful as you level the new combat skill. Alternatively, players need to told or made to feel like the Main Quest is, unlike other games, is meant to be done first. The early Main Quest unlocking the first 3 episodes should be called 'Prelude' or 'Tutorial Quest' to show that it's a priority and not the story in order to introduce players to the way gear and the different episode bound skills is intended to work.

    The world needs freedom remove the barrier into hope forest. Add a range skill to give options. Began combining skills into progression.
    Such as catch a fish, create a recipe. That recipe gives frost resistance. Eat that when fighting a frost boss. This alone adds fishing,Cooking,Alchamy to heal and Combat needed for a single task making all skills flow into one another.
    All cooking should either give buffs,resistances or have a benifit to progression.
    Create say a range skill bow useful in hopeport and hopeforest. Then in mantuben you unlock a spear skill allowing it to be trained by melee or by throwing.
    They need to give players purpose and freedom like other great games have done.

  • @HTownIron832
    @HTownIron832 4 дня назад +3

    I think on paper having separate combat skills that are unique to an episode is cool and solves a few problems. I think the negative reaction is not to having different skills it’s that training the “different” skills in each episode feels the exact same as the last. In my experience, levels 1-25 felt the exact same and I didn’t feel a power increase from higher levels. Now that I’m in episode 2 the start of it feels the exact same as the start of episode one combat just starting from lvl 0

    • @HDHaZmY
      @HDHaZmY  4 дня назад +1

      Yes agreed - like I said in my previous video I think the core problem is the lack of Combat skills, not the progression itself. Now Combat feels exactly the same in all episodes. Nothing to get excited about.

      @@thegugster I tend to like thematic or lore reasons as to why the skills are different. I know the game doesn't say it, but so far I'm thinking that Guard is about fighting in a city or lived in area, Scout is fighting in the woods on uneven and natural ground, Minefighting is learning to fight in small, underground spaces etc. Animations to show that they are different and aren't all just 'Swing Weapon' would go a long way too imo.

    "For example, a boss monster that you need to be both a high level guard AND a high level scout to defeat"
    Whats the purpose since it is basically the same skill??? I don't like to compare it with RS, but RS requirement at least serves a purpose, for example level 20 strength, 20 range and 20 magic. Each of those skill serves a purpose. They need to do something with these combat professions to make it more unique to one another and actually serves purpose in the game and I guarantee people will appreciate that.

    • @ChunkSchuldinga
      @ChunkSchuldinga 2 дня назад

      @@leiferikson7052 Guild Wars 2 solved this with a level fluctuating system. Your stats will be dropped in lower zone so you aren't entirely overpowered, but you still have access to your skills and gear, nor do you need to roll a new character if you want to run old dungeons or help a friend that just joined the game.
      If they don't want old or low level content to become dead content, put combat level caps in some chunks of land to keep it somewhat challenging if for whatever reason higher level players come back to these zones to take on a newly-released low or mid level quest/dungeon/worldboss. Having to completely reset for a specific zone just doesn't do it. People are going to rush zones regardless, especially if there's no reason to return. Put in content to keep people coming to these zones.
      This "soft reset" system only only psychologically gaslight players into thinking their progress means nothing, especially in the way Brighter Shores presents it.

    This soft reset system is poorly explained in-game and it only psychologically gaslights the player into believing their progress means nothing. Especially when it comes to the "total level 60 to continue the main story" noob trap. Players clicking on the new free steam game and coming off something like WoW would probably spam combat training and realize they dun goofed after a couple hours and ragequit. It needs an overhaul or at least a better introduction if they want Brighter Shores to succeed.
    I have no problem with a scout skill (ranged) vs a guard skill (melee/tank(?)), but the fact they aren't introduced together and explained as different skills a la Tutoiral Island in OSRS, it only disencourages the player and causes confusion, especially when skills are locked behind a serialized concept in storytelling such as the word "episode." Rework the entire bootcamp sequence and explain all the skills of every episode.
    If you don't want old content to become dead content, Please take a page from Guild Wars 2. Put in a zone-based level cap so old content (dungeons, quests, world bosses) will never become irrelevant and still provide a challenge if a higher level player jumps in on the content late.

    Sorry, it was not a good response. He doubled down on a system nobody enjoys. There's no sense of progression, and even if there was, the combat is shallow, there's no unique weapons or armor, it's all generic numbers that go up very slightly. Gear is randomly generated from monsters with no differences between said monsters at ALL. 10 years and combat is literally just click enemy-wait-~15% chance it will drop an item that has nothing but defense % stats on it. Repeat infinitely with no further rewards. And even if you do get to crazy high combat, like max it at 500, you go to the next episode...And you're lvl 1, time to grind all over again hitting 5 damage for some reason.

    for example Guard Weapons and then Scouts weapon (don't know episode 3 yet but probably weapon for that too) Those weapons can be used in any areas they are found in, but require a specific level in the respective skill to use. Well, that is good they are trying to improve this... However I think this is not the biggest flaw of the game. The main issue is that ultimatly all profession are not giving fresh things. When you unlock a new re-colored kelp after hours of grind you know you will do the same thing over and over again. It would be fun to have unlocks that actually change some gameplay or some experience... I just feel that right now we only grind for the grind value... Which is fun for some, just not for most players.

    I don’t think an explanation was necessary. It still feels bad to change episodes.
    This is what happens when you try to solve a cornerstone of the genre rather then respect its limitations. Cubeworld did the same thing and got the same blowback from the community.
    RPGs are about leveling and power fantasy. Removing levels for the sake of putting everyone on the same power level is obviously not gonna sit well with a majority of the community.
    This is just what RPGs are. This is the limitation of the genre and also a defining characteristic of what makes the genre. It didn’t need to be solved, it should’ve been embraced.

    I love this game so much. Never played osrs and don’t plan to anytime soon. My main issue is the lack of social aspects. Let me make a party with my friends, inspect other peoples gear/levels, clans and I want to see more team based battles (ffxiv has a hunt system that has very strong enemies that can appear periodically on the map and you need many players to defeat it, I could see something like this being implemented in this game too). Also it needs a lot of qol improvements especially around movement. Clicking the minimap and having it auto path, temporary teleport points you can place where u need them (I’d say having one or two at a time being enough), a way to lock the minimap anywhere on the screen. A way to improve bag space over time (I’m only on episode 2 so not sure if this is already in the game) I’m gonna keep playing the game until it loses my interest but I see a lot of potential in it. I just hope they don’t have to make changes that will be so drastic they’d need to reset my levels

    I was definitely playing it in a normal MMO way, complete episode 1 then go to episode 2. In fact I've not even got to episode 2 and I was feeling a bit sick of the first area. They should probably lock some side quests by forcing you into new episodes to progress the quests, that way you will know to mix multiple episodes at once. Even the word 'episode' suggests linear progress. Who watches episode 3 of Star Wars before episode 1 (well I did watch "Return of the Jedi" first, but not on purpose).

    One of my questions also seems to be the Premium Pass... so for me its 5.99 EUR for 30 days running sub.... its 23.99 for 90 days one time payment and its 74.99 for 365 days one time payment... so 6x 12 would be cheaper than a 365 days pass... even 6x3 is cheaper than 90 days...

    I'm just going to make an early prediction based on my gameplay and the general game direction they're taking - Brighter Shores is going to be a mega niche game. Super super niche. It really feels like they just wanted their own Runescape again, but needed to make it meaningfully different. But something like OSRS is already **close to** "perfect" for the kind of game it's trying to be that making a spin off can only be super niche.

      That's exactly the problem. OSRS introduces the combat skills back to back and teaches the player how they function differently in a span of 5 minutes. Brighter Shores locking them behind episodes, a stupid name that heavily suggests a linear story progression like in television btw, gives off the impression that the one and only combat skill you've been introduced to so far and training in Hopeport for a few hours all of a sudden means nothing.
      Combine this with the main quest telling the player they need a minimum level of 60 before moving on, that becomes a noob trap for players that probably clicked on the new free steam game never hearing about RuneScape before, would most likely spam combat and then get smacked a message that can be interpreted as their progress being worthless.
      If Brighter Shores's boot camp introduction was an isolated experience that explained everything in an hour, it wouldn't be a problem.
      Besides, a safe/isolated boot camp introduction could make for good chatacter role-playing bacnstory that gives the player some slight levelups at the beginning over a questionnaire. Yeah it would be relatively useless, but it can add some layer of immersion in character creation.

    My biggest gripe is what will happen to PVP and PVM in each episode. All the grinding I do to try to get great gear from potential bosses later would only be isolated to a single episode. So there is no progress there between episodes. Imagine getting into a PVP duel in episode 1 where someone grinded 100 levels and bosses to get special gear, but then goes to episode 3 and gets beat easy. I dont see a reason why to go for gear thats isolated to one episode.

    they could make it where you have rapid improvement and feel stronger per episode without just reseting you to zero, just have even more powerful gear to grab in the next episode. and i think you should be able to take episode 2 shit back into 1 and just feel overkill thats one of my favorite things in mmo is going back to lower level zones and feeling super powerful one hitting mobs and stuff, reusing the same room with scaled mobs is just lazy and boring

    It's a great response, and I love developers that are open and transparent. However, for people who don't like the separate combat professions (including me), the response is kind of useless. It doesn't aim to improve or mitigate the issues people are having with it, merely to explain why it's here to stay.
    (With the exception of the suggestion to have enemies that benefit from multiple professions to defeat, which is a step in the right direction. Why not do that for every enemy rather than just a few exceptions?)

    Ugh, reminds me of when Bethesda ruined their leveling system by having everything scale with you. Do game devs not understand the fun concept of feeling overpowered because you grinded to get to that point? On a side note, a good way to make areas useful for even higher levels so they don't become obsolete is by having the bosses drop items that are useful for even higher levels. Sort of like FFXI's system that existed @ level 75.

    All of this is wrong. He needs to change deciding your faction at the start of the game. Even at the point where you do choose a faction one still has no idea the difference between the three, so waiting seems pointless. At least it should have been early episode 1.
    In addition to this issue, ALL combat levels need to be squished. Having monsters scale is fine, but episode 2 should naturally be harder. Having to grind a different set of gear and a different "combat profession" (the same class under a different name) is pointless.
    Even if we get skills added, some players might not like that way that profession plays. We should be able to choose and swap between combat professions freely, and that profession should carry into each episode.
    I understand that the dev team wants something innovative, but not all innovation is good. This idea of separating combat professions by episode, and having them only usable in that episode, rather than being unlocked and swapped out, was/is a horrible idea, and it WILL chase off a majority of players, which is bad for the long haul of the game.

      The Gower brothers' predecessor RuneScape was never AAA to begin with. Hell, it wasn't even a B-tier when it was at its 2007 "glory days" peak as a web browser game. They're the living embodiment of early indie game developers success stories.
      Here's the problem. Brighter Shores, unlike its older brother RuneScape, fails demonstrate how all the episodes' skills are interconnected to the player in the first hour, and drags out only a third of them. By the time a new player reaches Hopeforest, they'll think "Oh shit, a second tutorial, and my combat resets? I'm outta here!"
      It discourages the player from continuing after they spent a couple hours in Hopeport and mistakenly think their combat got a soft-reset, not realizing they're being introduced to the Brighter Shore's equivilent of RuneScape's ranged combat skill a little too late after what they thought was the end of the tutorial.
      This is a terrible first impression and people unfamiliar with Gower's work on grindy games would likely be turned off by. It badly needs an overhauled tutorial better explaining the combat triangle to prevent this kind of confused ragequitting, because that shit isn't introduced until hours into the game.

    i hate that Episode 1 Combat Gear is useless and doesn't provide any stats when used in Episode 2 and vice versa, it's infuriating, there's no reason for this.
    Episodes feel like you have to start over from zero doing the same exact things every episode without any of the progress from Episode to Episode carrying over.
    Because the things you do in Episode 1, you can only do in Episode 1 for all 500 levels, this is a huge issue for me because i was hoping for example to fish in different regions or mine in different locations :((((
    just to add, Episode 1 Guarding is identical to Episode 2 Scout :( i was hoping Scouting would be like Ranged Combat.
    Huge issues to start off with, can't believe Andrew is defending these, these issues are driving players away, the drop is already apparent from SteamDB concurrent player stats sadly.
