My theory: Steven decides he needs to blow off steam safely, so he goes into Rose's room, which is where we see the house scenes and the running through the forest. Some stuff happens and he ends up punching the tree and inadvertently cracking the temple from the inside. He freaks out, goes to the hospital, and soon after that, the combination of his stress/anxiety, Pink Diamond powers, and his poor ability to shapeshift turn him into Wormy Boi. I feel like these last few episodes are going to be heavily centered on the core Gems (and Greg and Connie) and how much of a family they are. I expect there will be callbacks to when Steven helped Pearl, Amethyst, and Garnet with their troubles.

With Garnet’s description that corruption is like MC Bear Bear “tore the fabric of his mind,” I think it wasn’t quite supposed to be analogous to mental illness, but to some sort of psychological scarring. More of a trauma than a sickness.
The idea that Steven could fuse with Jasper could mean he may share some of her experiences of corruption that may be too much for him to handle.

The show is based off expressing your emotions through positive and negative view points. I believe corruption is kinda like having an emotion break or an anxiety attack but, for gems. Often times people who go through these attacks become someone else that they dont recognize or like their being "corrupted" in a situation.

I’d say Steven could corrupt himself given he is a diamond and bismuth immeasurably assumed that pink diamond alone could cause it
I feel like most people should understand that corruption is something that I think has to happen due to ALL diamonds, not just yellow, blue, and white. the evidence for this goes as following:
1. Steven was able to partially heal Centipeedle in the series. If his mother had nothing to do with it, (keep on reading, I'll get to that part) how would he be able to heal a gem related thing like corruption? And as much as a gem cracking is also a gem related thing, it doesnt take half a brain to know that gem corruption and gem cracking are not related in the slightest.
2. "The Song" Corruption is associated with. Think about it. When the diamonds launched their blast toward earth, it was meant to eradicate all gems on there. And the ray wasn't faulty, it was going to do rightfully so. However, Rose/Pink Diamond used her shield to protect herself, pearl, and garnet from the blast. An immense amount of power like that hitting a strong shield would create a rebound of energy going all throughout earth, as well as a monster vibration. And what comes from vibrations? Sound. The song could have been a sound coming from the rebound. And with Rose/Pink Diamond's shield rebounding it, part of her energy could have mixed in as well.
This is just a theory, so I'm not stating it as cold hard truth.

Cosmic Dragons Rebecca stated that she doesn’t want to end Steven Universe as a whole anytime soon, but this could only be one season because Zach Callison is taking a break so after his break is over Rebecca will probably get all the actors together again and start scripting recording producing etc a new sequel show likely after another time skip.

I think the real reason why gems are corrupting is by their mental, emotional and physical state. I did some research on the diamond that corrupted the other Crystal gems and Identify the diamonds power, for example Yellow's power is to alter a gem's physical forms of a gem. Blue's power is to give negative/positive emotions (since pink diamond's fake shattering, it will be negative emotions). White's power is to control the minds of other gems and leaving them like mindless zombies or monsters, do you see my point? If no, well, all of these traits are what Steven has been going through like questioning his pink glow and growing body, his guilt and trauma, his fear of being a senseless Diamond or monster. The diamond blast did affect the rebel gems but in a mental emotional and physical way. Like what happened to Steven
A gems physical form depends on what they chose to look like - it’s more or less reflective of their mental state.
In change your mind the gems came back more human-like because Steven had changed them in a way that made them think more like a human
If a gems mind is torn and they start to think in such a way that they’re thinking like a monster then they could be turned into a monster.
Alternatively if they start to think like they’re a problem when they’re not, then they could become a problem.
For example:
If Steven starts to think like a giant problem to everyone and that he’s wrecking the lives due to the fact that he’s ‘lost his touch’ then he’ll become all that.
This would explain why corrupted Steven would be so big and why it/he would be so destructive in this form.
And (this isn’t as serious) if he wants to get away badly then his gem will react in a such a way that allows him to get away. Like when he wants to protect his friends his gem responds and gives him his shield or his bubble, so maybe when he wants to get away his gem responds by giving him wings for example. But Stevens body is...difficult when it comes to shapeshifting and overtime he could allow his wings to overtake him, creating an entirely new being like in ‘cat fingers’.
This could explain why he could potentially turn into a dragon:
Giant problem = giant beast
Wrecking things = fire
Wanting to escape = wings

The hand that he punched the tree in the promo is the same hand that he is hiding so I think he broked his hand but he couldn't heal himself because his hand would be badly damaged and he goes to the bathroom to heal himself with the diamonds healing bottles things

I like the idea of poofing when under extreme emotional distress being a failsafe for corruption. It could be the most likely way Steven corrupts too, since Rebecca Sugar said that Steven would die if he poofed, or at least his organic half would, which could explain the heart attack type scenario in the trailer. Anyway, I think that since he can’t poof, his mind will begin to snap and shatter, bringing about corruption.

if corruption IS supposed to represent a tear to the mind that would make alot of sense since the first way such as an attack from the diamond could reflect how you feel presssured by a person, enough to lash out and lose yourself the second way is being in an abusive relationship with an already torn person. listening to all their problems and helping them also tears you apart in the process,

I'd like to imagine that gems say "Keep your form!" as a way of saying "keep your emotions in check, you're going too far".
The Dragon appears when both Steven and White Diamond turn Pink. Something White Diamond knew about and had to prevent at all costs. Now it's too late and this Dragon, which is fed by the emotions from the both Diamonds, is on the loose!

One thing that makes me sure that Steven would even be able to turn into that creature from that opening is that when he was attempting form shifting in the original series, his cat overloaded form was way larger than his original body, and meaning even when not in a fusion he can grow larger somehow and might not even be in control of the entire body at the time.

Here’s my opinion: Only a Diamond’s power can corrupt a character with no prior contact with corruption. Steven has diamond powers, so why not? Biologically, shapeshifting and corruption seem similar, so I have no doubt he physically can. I think it’s more than obvious WHY it would happen. I’m just about mentally prepared.

Like Penguino Del Rio said (scroll down to see their comment, it’s great I just wanted to make my own comment rather than replying) fusing with Jasper could be too much to handle but also could have something to do with Steven always being the one that is listening to other people’s problems. If he got Jasper to open up and come to little homeschool, his efforts might help Jasper to feel better but will ultimately tip Steven over the edge. Listening to everyone else’s problems will fog his mind so much that when he can’t handle it anymore, he’ll corrupt.

7:54 ever since i saw the promo my theory has been that his hand is glowing pink that after he had calmed down his right side hand didn't stop glowing this scene could possibly lead to the one with "i need some space" and "leave me alone" or something like that
That was a really interesting theory about since steven can't poof he might corrupt, and it might relate to steven being half human, so self-corruption being more common in humans without the use of diamond powers, however in steven he gets a more gem-like reaction.
Tbh I think that spinel and Steven could relate to each other a lot like...
Steven feels like all his friends are drifting away when spinel's did "which means only pd because I doubt she had any friends prior" *they are essentially the same* so she would be able to understand Steven and what he is going through that and I want to see my little baby lol

Even tough there isn’t enough time for Corrupted Steven to appear in the last two episodes of SU:F (Steven Universe: Future), my theory is Steven is gonna get so stressed and depressed to the point where he ends up corrupting himself. Or something else happens, I don’t know! We’ll have to wait for the next two and LAST episodes.

This is my favorite theory for how gems can corrupt. Like Garnet said, it's a tear of the mind. It doesn't necessarily mean that a gem *has* to be hurt in order to corrupt. They can do it based on their mental state.
Okay not diminishing the whole corruption theory at all, because CLEARLY OUR LITTLE STEVEN WILL PROBABLY BE CORRUPTED but does anyone remember the scene where Steven punches a tree? What if he just... broke his hand... I mean if that face doesn't scream "mY hANd iS hURtINg sO MUcH!?!?!?!?!?"
In my opinion, Steven will not corrupt. It's most likely maybe from home world or a gem that was bubbled up from space years ago.

8:10 who else thought he was punching the black dome that was fixed with duct tape, and thats what caused the house to fall apart and stuff like that? It was given very little screen time and honestly deserved more, so i could see this atleast becoming a temporary problem, or Steven could think of this as another thing he did wrong, leading him down the emotional train to corruption.
If you think about this could be a part of why ancient gem kind had developed the gem cast systems.
To help/reinforce a gems sense of self/worth/purpose in order to prevent self corruption. After all gems are immortal, even the shards are still alive, each filled with a fragment of the original.
A soul is not strong enough to live a single life for eternity unless its will/sense of self is constantly tempered.
The daimand authority system though flawed prevented that( till the diamonds used that corruption wave, but that was intentional)
They called the diamond attack a direct hit or something.... but what has never been addressed is THE SHIELD IS REFLECTIVE. And also curved, white diamond could of backsplashed herself across the universe.
I've been trying to tell people for ages about how important Garnets dialogue is about how corruption is a tear in the mind. After what Rebecca said about Spinel I came to the same conclusion as you have, how poofing is a form of defence for Gems. The human body has a lot of functions that it does automatically to protect you from a lot of things, it's possible Gems have their own version of that. Considering Gems have no other weaknesses besides shattering, poofing and corruption (which they didn't even know about till recently) I think would be good to add on another or more or less add onto the corruption weakness of which we have little information on. I think it important to point out too that a Gems mental state has always made a big impact on them, stress them out enough and they not only can poof but can cause an incredibly stable fusion to dissipate.
I think if something like this might happen, it might be more like “too many birthdays” rather than pure corruption
Maybe his corruption was foreshadowed on a dream he had on homeworks where he was having personality disorder between him, rose and pink diamond. The diamonds hit him with the corruption blast in that dream.

See the more I think about it I keep thinking maybe steven ends up fusing with the cluster by accident, creating the giant wormy boi and accidentally corrupting himself by the fusion occuring and fear or events before hand, because no matter what he always has the cluster. I just think the cluster would explain the size and intimidation factor. I could be wrong and I won't go into much detail but I can hope
This would explain the spikes/horns, as those could all be gem shards fused together, however peridot did state that the fusion would destroy the planet if it were to emerge, so unless this happens on the surface and not underground then I don't see this happening
that brings the question , can Gem Shards fuse ? if Yes ,then , maybe , But we dont know that. (Rutile does not count of course).
@@rafaelconstantino9736 in a way yes, gem shards can fuse as the cluster did this during the diamond fight at beach city, of course this fusion was time limited as the cluster got tired after awhile
I honestly think if wormy boy is corrupted Steven, the reason why it's so huge is because he is a diamond. Steven as part human is extremely small but diamonds are supposed to be massive. Even the runt pink was larger than most other gems. I think if a diamond is corrupted they would have to be massive and intimidating. I think part of the size of the corruption reflects how powerful and large the gem is/was.

You get it if you fuse (a form of love) and you can't ever get rid of it. You will always be have it in some way (horns)

Corruption seems like a combination of mental, emotional, and physical damage. Although I don't know which one plays the biggest role in actually starting the overall process.
