Some hidden nuggets
1. Next to the battery slot is a capped compartment for a spare battery
2. It can be charging via usb whilst recording
3. Whilst recording video can press the photo capture button to take snapshots
4. Can connect via hdmi to a smart tv or monitor for playback or for a big ass viewscreen
5. With correct attachment can be used as a webcam or for live streaming
6. Screen flips for selfies

THE SOUND when you opened the camera! Oh my god!😩✋💕 My mom used to have one of these. Not this exact model, but I took hers when I was a kid. Don’t have it anymore, and I’m thinking of getting one for myself.
Hey, Brandon, enjoyed your presentation. I also just picked up a CX405 from the marketplace, for $50, basically unused. I thought you had the better deal, until the lady said, "Oh, there's a card in there, you can keep it." A 128gb Sandisk Extreme Plus. Looking forward to testing out the new camera. ;-)

I got the best deal ever on this camcorder, my neighbor who cleans house out for the deceased or people who have gone into nursing homes puts stuff outside her garage for the taking and low and behold a Sony HDR-CX405 was sitting in the bunch, AWESOME!
I got mine at Goodwill store for 7$ so yeah i was amazed by quality

I've owned my camcorder for 3 months. It's still really good!!! Easy to upload clips to laptop, edit, and filming is easy.
Absolutely stellar review and video! I don't understand why over 55k people watched this great video and only 1.5k people liked it and this guy only has 700 subs. Some creators work hard on content so at least out of respect subscribe and like a video! Keep up the good work!

Need a cheap solid camera to make my short film with that has a girtty feel and this has helped
Brandon, overall, I agree with your review! I've been using this handycam for about two years. It shoots HD 1080p at 60 f/s. (I've seen other comments that it doesn't. My advice is not to skimp on the microcard. I use a SanDisk UltraPlus and it works fine). The zoom is fantastic! The mic is great! For its size, it has been great. It has been a good little intro camera.
However, in my opinion, the photos are so so. I almost never take photos with it. My wife's Kodak AZ401 does a far better job than this handycam. I think there is quite a bit of noise at low light. I don't know about the image stabilization. This is the biggest reason I'm looking for something and use this as a second camera.
Great to hear! I was looking to purchase this camera soon at Best Buy for my vacation! I honestly don't care if it's crisp 4K HDR quality I just want it to be able to record and have decent audio even. I wanna edit my footage to make it look for vintage/retro as well.
Does the noise quality have that cool aesthetic, or is like annoying noise quality? Idk if that makes sense. I'm a film photographer so that's what I'm looking for

I own the sony cam dcr-45 and its a great camera but only 750p just a little more picture. Ive been looking for a camera and you really helped me out thank you. I loved my sony had to get another and this is perfect.

Hmm, I am going to second most of these statements except the microphone. The lack of mic input is quite annoying, and the built-in microphone is not really that good.
I want to start youtube and this video helped decide on what camera to get keep up the work, earned a sub
wished we had some handheld stabilized(during or post-prod) shots to get a true idea of its cinematic potential.
On the other hand, if it's being used only for social media vlogging(to show friends & family), then this price is Not cheap, but rather a luxury for that type of use

1) is this camera records about 1 hour with bateria and an extra SDCard?
2) is it possible to user an external wireless microphone to improve the audio quality?
Man I am so glad to hear this. I love Sony products and I did like you say and I got mine on eBay. $100. Can’t wait to get it. I’m a Sasquatch hunter and have a channel on RUclips (monsters from Maine)so I’m constantly out in the woods at night and I have not found a good,cheaper camcorder with a good night shot.

How did you get rid of the noise on the screen?
I know this is an old video dont know if youre still answering questions. Did you edit the color/contrast on your video in post? I see some ppl who have shot film with this camera and the color is very dull but yours is vivid and clear.
Can u pls do a tutorial of each setting on what it does or what it is

Cx405 have clean hdmi so use in atem mini is very good second camera.

Camcorders are in a odd spot today. They're better than phones and DSLR's, seeing as they virtually never overheat and can deliver TV quality footage. People often forget shoulder mounted cameras, and handheld cameras used in professional productions are also camcorders by definition.
all my youtube videos where made with one of these cameras. sound is amazing . and its a tough little camera i dropped it a few time sand it still works great ..
I had one in the past and then went with the cell phone camera for a while. I just bought a new one and I'll never go back to the cell phone cameras.

What's best setting out the box to capture youth outdoors sports? How do you set it up?
Could you clip some little speakers to your shirt that would Bluetooth to the camera? If so what would you recommend
If I look to the clips made with the camera, the quality seems a lot better than my own HDR-CX405, even though I’m filming in 1080i. What were you’re settings and which are the best for the highest quality? If you want to know how it looks like, the last two videos on my channel, were filmed with this camera. I’ve changed the settings from AVCHD to XAVC S HD. Does that make a big difference? I can’t test it because I’m in isolation (covid) and my laptop isn’t here..
1080p stops the wavy lines when you shoot up close..

Sorry for being late to the table. Just ordered one of these today, new camera with a case for $112.00.
I plan to video night time fishing possibly for youtube. I plan to make a light with a filter to even it out. The light will not be bright but with this cameras capability for lower light levels I think it should work.
Your thoughts.
Also which setting, XAVC S or AVCHD would be best for the above situation?

Read crazy amount of reviews before buying this for about $100 with 2 batteries on eBay. I shoot most of my indoor vids on my channel for the most part with this camera and, iunno it doesn’t look all that great. Maybe it’s because I’m just using natural light but overall I’m mid on this camera and looking for something a little better. My videos are not just grainy but also seem low resolution as well.

PM Music I did notice that the battery drained rather quickly while it was set up recording on a tripod constantly. (About 1 hour). But if you were to take it out shooting and only use it periodically (on/off) for certain shots then it’d last you multiple hours! (Keep in mind you can charge it on the go with a battery bank because of built in USB)

Hello, Brandon! I have a question, if you do not mind: I have this same camera, but the model CX240. I really love this camera!!! The thing is: everytime i shoot a video and pass it to my computer, I notice that it is not in high definition....Is there anything I need to do with the settings of the camera in order for it to save the video in High Definition (like 720p or 1080p)...? Thank you so much!

Sadly you lost me when you said it didn't have a built in microphone jack . We do interviews outside with people so this would be a major problem. Are there any other camcorders with powered microphone ports around the same price range?

What about recording limits? Overheating? - shutting off all the time at a certain temperature.
MarkusPix did a side-by-side in the Las Vegas sun, cameras and camcorders, and the camcorders, including this one, pretty much never shut off due to heat.
