- Today we take a look at, what might be the perfect pair, the Sony CX-405 and the Newmowa Shooting Grip. Normally I use this shooting grip with my Sony point and shoot, but today I realized it can be used with this HandyCam. What a game changer!
Main camera: Sony HDR-CX405
Main microphone: Leereel wireless lapel mic (iPhone)
Video editing software: iMovie
I am very happy with the built in mic. The sound is very good.. The best feature of the Sony-CX-405 is that you can edit in the camera I made 53 edits in the video I have up now over 3 hours of recording I edited it down to 24 minutes before I put in in my PC. No one who has reviewed this camera has talked about that feature maybe you will be the first to let the people know about this great feature. Thanks for the info about the shooting grip.
Just ordered my first SONY HDR-CX405 today. Can't wait to receive it in a few days. I may have to get that Newmowa Shooting grip. I'd assume you connect it to the muliport on the side of the camera for the buttons & functions to work. We'll see.
Recently bought a CX405 and bought this grip after seeing this video. Works like a charm! So much easier to zoom in and out than using the button on top of the CX405. The grip isn't battery operated so I can only guess that it uses power from the CX405. If you have a CX405, what are you waiting for? Buy this grip!!
I have a 405 ... Excellent camera...
How are you connecting them together
and how are you getting the sound into?
the camera.. or are you getting the video out?
Are the connections on the right socket a standard of some sort?
Can you do more about the handle thing and what it does etc..
Thanks for that, they have one here in NZ called a Kingma, looks like the same unit different brand, so Im gonna try that on my 405. Thanks for the heads up.
Great Video. Could you share a link in the description or something with the kind of wireless mic used? I only found the ones for the iPhone. I also have the CX-405 Handycam.
I have a similar mic that has a USB-C connector to use with my Android. Works very well so far. I am pretty sure he recorded the audio with the mic he mentioned through his iPhone then mixed the audio and video during editing. Our CX-405's don't have an audio input unfortunately so if the onboard audio isn't sufficient for your use, you'll need to use an external recorder of some sort.
Thank you for clearing that up. I thought these were somehow paired together. Ok
Are you connecting the wireless microphone to the soney 405 and if so how?
Also how are you connecting the grip? By lead or does the 405 have wireless or Bluetooth built in?
Many thanks.
Great info but I'm curious: How are you pairing the Leereel wireless mic to the camera if it doesn't have an external mic input?
10 months later and no response ......... not good. You're not the only one asking this.
I finally figured out how to record audio separately and sync it in the editing software.
I use Davinci and it's pretty easy to sync audio tracks by wave form. I don't think there's any way to use an external mic on the CX-405. Good luck!
How do you pair the microphone with the camcorder app
The wireless mic set you are using. You did sync that in post? No way to connect to the camera, correct?
I’m lost. I see nothing that confirms the grips buttons will activate anything on the Sony CX 405. What am I missing?
UPDATE: I can confirm that it indeed does work with the Sony 405! On-off - even with the viewfinder flipped open!; videorecord start and stop; and zoom (single speed, not variable) in and out. A fourth control, photo, doesn't seem to work but that's ok for me.
I would add that confusing language in the camcorder's owner's manual ("you cannot use accessories" with the multi-port) limited my expectations.
That buttons on that grip works with that sony camera? I am surprised because this sony camera is much older than that grip. Or not?
The grip’s buttons DO operate the SONY 405’s functions. 👍
I use my handycam with the Sony grip.
