It's inspiring to see the new generation of builders take flight and push the envelope while making it look easy. I lived around the corner from Sam Foose back in the day. Great job!

Great video! Iv never actually don’t a body drop myself, Iv seen a few jacked up ones on minitrucks! Great job explaining your cut layout and why, that’s really important. Interested to so how you get the rear bumper fitting again.
Thanks man, yes this is my first one! Will definitely be a lot of learning curves a long the way for sure! We'll see what happens, fingers crossed haha
I actually saw part 2 first I never intends on doing this but will watch everything this guy does I'm new to his channel and love his work I know I will use some of this knowledge somewhere some day 1thanks a lot
Karl, nice job on the body drop, I think I maybe would have done things a little different on the firewall, but hey, the car is in your shop, I'm sitting here at my desk...big difference.. either way, I'm sure you will do a fantastic job!! Be safe!!! God Bless!!
Seems like an epic challenge! The before and after pictures will not show the amount work it took to achieve the look! It definitely depends on whom is looking and head scratching ( how did he-they do this). Very excited to see this to completion! 😎
@@MakeItKustom I always thought that a chop referred to the roof, sectioned referred to a section taken out of the middle of the body and channeled was when the body was lowered over the chassis and the floors lifted up.. Sorry to be pedantic.Love your work.
channeling? wrong term, im from old school, channeling is where we raise frame through floor, creating a upside down C-channel for frame to sit in, not just a raised floor, & instead of the body sitting on top of the frame, so you have to step over frame climbing into car, the process your doing is sectioning, & not done either in over 30 years, but glad your enjoying, truly an at form not many can do.
Thank you very much man I’m glad you’re enjoying it! I think we might have just a slight misunderstanding in what’s happening to this car. It is a channel or a body drop. Sectioning is where you cut the body and take a section out. channelling and body dropping are the same thing where the frame is being raised up into the car which is what is happening here.
GOOD JOB! Like you said, Its better to take extra time to figure out when you drop the body down to meet the lower section , to meet as close as possible , its very important. Thank you for showing ..
You said a lot of thought went into this and I believe it! I’m wondering about the time you spent figuring all this out. Reason is it seems like I’m spending more time walking around and staring at my car trying to figure out and make up my mind what I want to do. I keep telling myself I’m not a Karl or a Fitzey, gonna take some time, don’t get in a hurry!
I see a lot of trying to work around existing structure, would it be better and cleaner to ditch entire floor front to back and concentrate on chopping the body mounts only then fab new clean floors and wheel tubs ?
It would be nice to start with a car as solid as that Caddy ,,, im channeling a 40 ford sedan right now ,,, moved the front fendr mounts on the cowl up 2 and a quarter inches , the rear wheel houses are being moved up an inch and a half , and getting new inners , moved inboard at the top for large tire clearance ,, the rockers will now be taller also ,,, after the floor is done ,and structural, the windshield will be leaned back a bit ,, the top will get chopped and pankaked ,, an loose the B pillar,, hard top style,, chopping this sedan will involve moving the whole roof slightly forward at the rear and leaning the trunk opening also ,,to get rid of the hump over the back glass,, have another whole roof to use for the right radiuses ,,, enjoying your videos ,, keep up the good work !
So glad youtube recommended this to me! Im attempting similar thing here in the uk to a classic mini.. aswell as cutting 1.5" out of the body 'sprint' style, leaving the roof pillars std, i just want people to question how have i got it that low (as low minis are never really that low) without realising ive 'body dropped' it, cant wait to see more 👍
Killer! Sounds like that project is going to be super unique! I remember when I was a kid there was a chopped top mini on the top of a telephone pole at a scrapyard. It was a panel as well. I drew in my sketchbook a mid engine chopped Panel mini with the drive V8. This was during the monster garage shows where I got the V Dr. idea lol good luck with the project sounds like a wicked one!
Really enjoyed that .. and having done a somewhat similar body drop over a different chassis I have to agree with measurements.. more measurements.. sit back and look..look again.. 90% planning 10 % cutting. As you said it can go wrong if you don’t consider everything that changes. That’s why you don’t see this often.. it’s a big undertaking.
Have you ever thought about widening it? I've seen a couple car widened. A lot of work. The passenger area stays the same but just below the windows they added a two inch each side. Need to modify bumpers and grill hood and trunk need to be widened. Wider tires or spacers. A lot of work but much meaner looking. One more fantastic video. Thank you.
I just added 6 inches to the middle of a Nash Metropoltan convertable,,, looks better than stock ! Its getting a 55 ford trunk lid ,cut down abit,, to get rid of the spare tire indent ,,, a modern chrysler Hemi ,,, 15 inch wheels are the reason its wider ,,
Very interesting!!! You didn’t cut the body yet you dropped the car! Im instead in dropping my 71 Nova as well as doing a complete frame swap. Novas didn’t have complete frames but I’m going too ! I’m always learning for your videos!!!! Thanks
Great video dude , but i am a little lost has to why you would go to all that trouble chopping the body ? Please explain don't you normally alter the suspension to get the effect your looking for ? or i am missing something here ? 😁😁🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘
OK we are also modifying the suspension as well so that the car drops but picture the car dropped only on suspension as far as it can go with the frame would hit the ground first. Because the frame hangs slightly below the body the body would appear to be 2 1/2 inches above the ground. If I drop the body around the frame like I’m doing then when we lower the car on hydraulics the body itself will actually touch the ground
Hello Karl! Your my nr 1 channel and your work is absolutly awesome! So informativ, fun to watch and so inspiring! I have watched this series of the caddilac 3 times over haha. One thing i would strongly advise using eye protection against welding glare as much as you possibly can. I know its almost unavailable at times, and it sucks, but trust me when i say its worth it. too late now but the steering column will actually not drop as much as the rest of the body drop because the steering box is staying where it is. so the column effectively changes its angle forward
Great stuff but it always scares me when people use a cutting disc with no guard on their grinder not to mention cutting and grinding without wearing a respirator. Great content though 👍
Wow, Makes my 1940 coupe 2" channeling look easy. Did you brace the floor sheetmetal? If so what guage sheet metal did you use for the braces? On my 40 Desoto Im extending the body mounts (not the frame body mounts) up by 2 inches using 14 gauge metal, thinking about using 16 gauge for the braces, and 18 gauge bead rolled for the floors and the Z shape channel. Thanks a lot for your amazing videos not only explaining the steps but discussing the concepts and the "why's" . Keep up the great work
I totally understand the theory in doing this but if it’s a hell of a lot of work to body a car that’s already body dropped from the factory in the first place , there is also already a severe lack of head room Getting in and out of these cars as it is I can imagine 2.5 less inches of that as I’m constantly banging my head every time as it is now . I’m happy enough with chassis modifications for air suspension , just my opinion one of the big attractions for me with these cars is the already low stance set by manufacturer by recessing the frame into the floor pans .
@@MakeItKustom I totally agree I just opt for doing with suspension drop rather than a top drop or body drop , a aging body dictates that for me , can’t tell how many time I’ve slammed my head into the drip rails getting in and it just pisses me off to no end , once I’m in I’m good though .
It’s only gonna be 2 1/2 inches higher so the pedals may feel a little bit different in which case they may have to be shortened a little but I kind of doubt it will affect it enough

ur doing a good thing,.. stay on course..i enjoy ur videos..some of theses, so called retired Engineers, or third-generation engineers.. are liars.. engineer wannabes !!. Always telling you what you should be doing.. when they're clueless.. Black Art Forge..
Why not chop the roof a little, now that you are rolling with the surgery ?? Just little - please please. Caddys are sooo cool when they are ultra low AND chopped. :) 👍👍
Because the frame hangs lower than the body. Now the body is level with the bottom of the frame. And after I do my proper suspension install which will be hydraulics not air ride this car will lay flat as a pancake
@@MakeItKustom okay yes that makes sense now. Did not realize that the bottom of the body wasn't close to the bottom of the rails, but now the question, why do you prefer hydraulics over bags. I would think hydraulics would be a more harsher ride.
I've always known it as SECTIONING, and not body drop. I know there is a lot of work. And cutting in the right place is the key to a successful process. Also I know not to cut just a straight line, but use drop downs and ups in the cuts. You can set up a way to lower the top half, like a pair of hydraulic jacks, hooked to a pipe or other steel fixture..Just take your time and THINK and be careful.I know you can do it. Ronnie.
How do you know that you’re cutting an exact 2.5 inches? I mean how do you measure it properly? 2.5 inches on a radius wouldn’t measure the same if you measure it vertically, right? It would be short. So if you cut 2.5 inches on a flat panel you’d have to cut a little more material on a panel with a radius, I think….
Yes you are correct about the radius. There’s some rust in this area so I pretty much just sliced it and let it slip beside itself because I will be replacing that area to repair the rust
Jeez man, am I the only one having huge difficulty trying to hear what your saying, while that music is being played in the back ground. I don't miss cutting up old rust buckets. I do however miss fabrication. Did auto collision and was a welder fitter for most of my life. Looks pretty straight forward looking forward.. It will be a nice looking ride when you all said, and done.
@@MakeItKustom Maybe I'm confused, but are you lowering the body on the frame so it sits lower? Can you not just channel the frame up into the floor? Oh btw, great videos. I like low-budget builds, don't become famous and start buying expense tools and build expensive cars... ;)
Dude your super bad, there’s so many ways to get in trouble with women I know because I’ve been married for 32years , so I know how to get out of it the best way possible. The bracing your talking about is just like marriage, the metal, the cool tools you have it’s an art. You have to get this rite or else, you got balls my man . I'm 73 and really enjoy your content and abilities , and wish I were still able to do even a fraction of what you do , especially your willingness to "Teach" , Very important trait ! Keep it up !
keep the floor. rust is lighter and way less expensive than cf, basically free weight reduction
Sounds like race car engineering lol
.. skid plates for the rockers
That’s kind of what I’m thinking that 10 gauge will be is a skid plate
ur doing a good thing,.. stay on course..i enjoy ur videos..some of theses, so called retired Engineers, or third-generation engineers.. are liars.. engineer wannabes !!. Always telling you what you should be doing.. when they're clueless..
Black Art Forge..
Why not chop the roof a little, now that you are rolling with the surgery ?? Just little - please please. Caddys are sooo cool when they are ultra low AND chopped. :) 👍👍
Yes and chop is in the plan! 🤫🤫
I got a g body 82 cutlass supreme I want to body drop
So why did you go through all that work when you could get the same results with a proper suspension drop with air bags.
👉🇧🇷👈 projjeto top !!
Ronnie.
13:23. Proof of Canadian Citizenship! 🇨🇦 ohh yah bud! 🍻
Lol I guess it’s pretty obvious!
how old are you
Yesterday was my birthday I turned 33
@@MakeItKustom man, happy birthday! u are an inspiration
Sorry about the audio man we are still figuring thing out here but appreciate any feedback like this that will lead to better future videos!
Not sure why you don't just raise the floor and leave the rest alone?
Please explain how that works to achieve what I’m doing?
I’ve seen a number of your RUclips panels and I have complete confidence you’ll pull it off , if your Chanel disappears I’ll know why, god speed, you’ll get it rite.
Ha ha thanks for your vote of confidence Tom!
get your grinder on would be a cool t shirt
Bumpers will all so need lowering
Absolutely!
No Gloves. No Guards. 7" grinding wheels. You want to lose fingers?
Yes sometimes I take risks. Thanks for watching for my safety the newer videos are much safer
@@MakeItKustom I almost lost a finger when a grinder sans guard kicked back. Luckily I was wearing gloves.
Sorry
