It’s wild to see what grass seed prices are, but it is 💯 worth spending the money for a high quality seed. That’s a nice property you’re taking on. I’m looking forward to seeing your blends results!
Tons of great content here Ryan - we learn every time you post one of these start to finish videos. Pray 🙏 for some sun and higher temps for the entire region!
Started watching again as I will be moving back to Nebraska soon so similar climate and what not. I plan on getting whatever yard I have to be the best possible.
Great video!!! Very similar to my back yard project!!! Going with “Texas Blugrass hybrid” that is supposed to have a low HOC, with a good wear and drought tolerance in a cool season climate. Hoping to knock it out of the park with your videos!!!! Thanks Sensei Ryan!
Ry, it was good to see you on the Grass factor Thursday night, I am sorry if I crashed the show. Yours and the Grass factor. I look forward to you and my buddy on the Grass push" Ryan Demay". I want to learn . Just want to learn how to grow my hobbie. I've been a devoted follower of your Tube cast way back with Ryan Demay. Just want to learn. Love the video's . Grass factor too . Looking forward to the test plot's you have started. Happy Easter 🙂
The Scotts fertilizer with the mesotrione worked like a boss for me last year, in the spring no less. The handful of weeds that came through were white/dead and nothing came through the rest of the summer and fall. Highly recommend.
Nice timing Ryan, I will be looking forward to the updates on the new lawn for your client? Do you & Kelsey have a start date for your new home build? That will be another nice video to follow, take care!
I did 2mil plastic for my lawn renovation since the lawn blankets are costly. I found some 20’ x 100’ sheets and used lawn staples to hold it down. Pulled the plastic as soon as I saw germination about 12 days using RPR
Great info Ryan! I want to do a renovation at some point, probably too late for this spring, but mine would be a larger area like that so it’s nice to hear what you recommend for those situations!
Beautiful home! When it comes to rain and newly overseeded lawns, should you water your lawn the following day after a long rain? I enjoy your content and best of luck with establishing your client’s lawn!
Great video! I took a chance and seeded a week ago (I'm in the north transition zone) and it looks like a couple days coming up with lows in the low 30s...will that kill my new grass that has already germinated?
Hey Ryan. Awesome video and I am getting ready for this year! Are you fertilizing throughout the summer at all? Or do you just stay on top of water and post emergent?
My yard is so bad that even weeds don't grow... I'm slowly getting grass to stay. This is the 1st year I've had anything after winter and I just seeded yesterday to hopefully fill it out.
Looking forward to more videos on the project. Curious as to the tall fescue. I’m leaning towards this on my lawn as a overseeding project this fall. I’m in lower Michigan and do not water my lawn. I have almost 3 acres and mostly sun. Taller grass is probably my best option correct? Len from Kalamazoo Michigan.
I picked up some mushroom compost this spring as well, I think I'm going to try mixing it 80/20 with sand for a bit of leveling this year. Sounds like great stuff and was relatively inexpensive. Interested in how you're using it and whether I'll need to screen it.
Waiting for winter to be over to seed here in CT. These 30s and 40s are killing time. in just 2 months we're gonna be humid with 80s then torrential rains come. Sucks
Do you recommend adding more top dressing after a few days? I used a peat moss spreader and seems like some areas are getting a little thin now or do we worry about blocking sunlight with adding anymore?
Ryan, we have major remodel and city is saying need to lay down hay for soil erosion. We want to lay sod and concerned that we will get hay seeds growing through lawn. Hope to use a mulch instead, but if we can't how do we handle laying down hay before sod to prevent hay growth. How about remove hay, water let seeds grow then hit with Roundup type product to kill weeds, then lay sod.
Ryan, you are my go-to guy on my lawn. Today, I ordered an Allett Stirling battery mower at 20 inches. I have bluegrass and perennial rye which stripes well. I'm going to be interested in your views on the Stirling. A retired guy, I am hand-cutting an acre. I'm laying off preemergent. I'm going to overseed with half blue grass and half rye in the autumn. My question is absent a reemergent, will I have a nightmare this summer? The salesman said if I get preemergent down now, I can overseed in September. If there is one thing I have learned by age 71, it's not to listen to salesmen What is your view? If I put it down now, will the properties be worn off by September?
Yeah if you went with a lower end range of the pre-emergent dose then it would be worn off. The other thing is if you core aerated to break the barrier before overseeding that will help a lot too.
Cheap dirt with tall fescue works good enough I got 5 gallon buckets broke it down by hand put it in seed flat trays and watered it then let it dry so I had clay bricks I wait till it's not too dry put it down seed water dirt water
I've seen some people say that they have used clear plastic polyurethane as a ground cover to hold moisture and protect after throwing down new seed and they remove it after it starts to germinate. What are your thoughts on this?
hi Ryan, i am a long term follower and I loved your video, I have followed your steps to gain a excellent succed on my lawn, out of my curious, what app/program do you use to edit your videoes? I am a film making student now and look forward to some help.
Thanks for the info. Any recommendations on what to do for an abundance of dog spots? I'm in MN and it seems half of my lawn is dead from urine once the snow melted. Will these spots grow back or should I dethatch and reseed these areas in the spring?
What would you recommend if you're in my situation with a new build, grass is grown in, but you have tons of Poa Annua or quackgrass mixed in as well? What can I do in order to avoid a full reno?
Got about 2 acres total that is covered in a weed grass mix....I want to start over with a new lawn, preferably zoysia. I live in South GA and seed would be the cheapest. How ahould I approach this? Till and kill? Core aerate, mow really low and over seed? What would work for me on this and be the most cost effective option? I am ok with a 1 or 2 year timeline fir achieving the new lawn. Any input you have would be appreciated.
If it were me I would want all of those weeds as dead as possible before I plant anything else or you'll be mad in the end. Sprigging bermuda might also be somewhat cost effective in a situation like that (as I showed in this video with that bermuda sports field my friend completed)
@@ryanknorrlawncare could I overseed the bermuda lawn with zoysia after its established and the weeds are gone? I eventually want a full thick zoysia lawn.
Tip: place grass seed into a cheese cloth. Place cheese cloth into a bucket of water for 24 hours. Mix the saturated seeds with an organic fertilizer like milo. Use a spreader to apply. Equals quick germination.
They can always put down Teff, comes up quick, doesnt spread like bermuda, only a 1/4inch seed depth, n dies off in the cold but will hold seed in place if you seed cool season seed in the fall.

Great video Ryan! I use Scott's grass seed normally. Could I over seed with your bluegrass?
Ryan Knorr will not CHILL OUT. Great work!
That's awesome that your community recognizes you as an expert! Love the channel. Cheers from Tulsa Ok
Building a lawn is not an event. Building a lawn is a process !
So hard seeding in spring, but sometimes one just can’t wait for fall 🍂
Just ordered my bag o Elite Tall Fescue and Landzie Peat Moss Spreader. Spring is here!!!

I had great success with a spring renovation last year. Have some spot seeding I need to do this spring as well. Great stuff as always Ryan!
Started watching again as I will be moving back to Nebraska soon so similar climate and what not. I plan on getting whatever yard I have to be the best possible.
We have a massive amount of soil and a mud mess so 🤞🏼🤞🏼 we get some green grass started this year 💚 thanks for the tips !
Absolutely stunning property
Yes it is. Can't wait to see some grass on there
Spring seeding is better than mud and erosion for sure. I’ll be following this one
This is exactly the kind of video I was looking for!

Great info as always. Looking forward to the updates.
I was about to say you built that house quick
Next level insight here
Great video RK!
The Scotts fertilizer with the mesotrione worked like a boss for me last year, in the spring no less. The handful of weeds that came through were white/dead and nothing came through the rest of the summer and fall. Highly recommend.
I always had success with the Scotts products, then decided to switch to Pennington and didnt get similar results.
Tis the season 🌱👍
Nice timing Ryan, I will be looking forward to the updates on the new lawn for your client? Do you & Kelsey have a start date for your new home build? That will be another nice video to follow, take care!

Likely it won't be needed the day after but you'll have to inspect and see how fast things are drying out
Nice to see your guest Keith Stone in the background

It's possible but you'll just have to wait and see. Probably a frost wouldn't wipe it out but something in the 20s gets more dicey.

Thanks again Ryan
Anyway you can do a video on new construction homes that have fresh sod squares or just straw and seed?
Working on one

Just using it as a light topdressing to cover seeded spots or small damage. The stuff I have is clean.
Waiting for winter to be over to seed here in CT. These 30s and 40s are killing time. in just 2 months we're gonna be humid with 80s then torrential rains come. Sucks

Sometimes I have dusted more on if things wash away or in super thin spots
Any updates on your sister in laws lawn reno that you did last spring? How are you treating that this spring?
Ryan, we have major remodel and city is saying need to lay down hay for soil erosion. We want to lay sod and concerned that we will get hay seeds growing through lawn. Yeah I guess you could fallow (which is what you were saying with letting the weeds come up and then spray them out)
Love it
I have shade fescue in some really shady areas that only get dappled light and it does great, looks the same as the rest of the yard
Tall fescue or fine fescue?
@@ryanknorrlawncare tall fescue, it has a slightly thinner blade but still tall fescue.

Purcheshed by RK Simple Green box! Ready to go for 2022, see a lot of Sunday ads in your vids. Are you endorsing “Sunday” ?
Nope. I have nothing to do with the ads that are shown
I've seen some people say that they have used clear plastic polyurethane as a ground cover to hold moisture and protect after throwing down new seed and they remove it after it starts to germinate. What are your thoughts on this?
I’ve missed the lawn videos

Final Cut Pro
I need your help. Surfactant vs dish soap which is better when applying herbicide
I prefer to use non ionic surfactant that's labeled for turf or crop use. I know for sure what I'm getting with that .
Hey, i have a ditch forming in the back of my yard. Do you recommend just filling with top soil and seeding? I need to raise it about a foot. Thanks
Do low temperatures at night matter? We have highs in the 60s during the day and lows in the 30s at night. Thanks in advance!
I’ve seen this cat out in uTAH using some sawdust to cover new seed. Thoughts on that?
Not my preferred method
My seed is going down next week🤞
@ 10:35 what is that weed? I have that in my lawn and I'm finding it hard to control
Ryan have you ever used any DIY hydro much products? I have seen a few with hose end sprayers. Hydro Mousse liquid lawn is one.
Everything I've seen has been reviewed as very poor in quality. There are some more pro options I hope to try out soon
Thanks for the info. Any recommendations on what to do for an abundance of dog spots? I'm in MN and it seems half of my lawn is dead from urine once the snow melted. Will these spots grow back or should I dethatch and reseed these areas in the spring?
You’ll almost certainly need to tear it up to the dirt level and reseed the areas. It’s probably going to be an annual problem. Same boat.
Any recommendation for a large lawn full of dead spots with a plastic mesh underneath? I assume the mesh will ruin a dethatcher?
What would you recommend if you're in my situation with a new build, grass is grown in, but you have tons of Poa Annua or quackgrass mixed in as well? What can I do in order to avoid a full reno?
I don't have a great answer for you, unfortunately.
Great vid!! Do I need to remove the previous yrs decomposed tree leaves frm the lawn b4 I overseed/apply lime??! Feelin lazy and I hava large lot. 😨🤣
Yeah you will need to
CAn you overseed with blue grass on a fescue lawn, with the idea the blue will crowd the fescue out?
Would you recommend aerating a lawn with some bald spots that I would like to seed this Spring? Did not aerate this past fall
You can but it's not completely necessary in order to just seed the bare spots
@@ryanknorrlawncare thank you!
What about planting an annual rye grass in the spring to stop the corrosion and then plant your TTTF in the fall?
You could but annual is not very cheap anymore and kind of a mess to deal with after spraying it out etc

thats a of drive way, does that leach into the soil in some way ?
I would give my left kidney for dirt like that, instead of my rock hard Tennessee clay
Ryan, if I already sprayed prodiamin can I repair pet damage spots still?
Use a garden weasel or similar to break up the soil in those spots
What is the easiest tool to remove rocks that have risen to the top soil.
A nickle per rock picked up for the neighborhood kids
Man I gotta bird problem. Every year I put seed I get a ton of birds . I tried everything .
So your going for Tall fescue for this yard weren't super clear on that
Correct
Can’t find peat moss anywhere… is it normally hard to find in spring? Crazy…
Everything is hard to find this year
I’ve literally got all my local Facebook peeps on the lookout for it for me! Gonna try one place in the morning
First Aussie 😁

How about a update on all the lawns you showed?
Did you ever get around to doing the simply Mander reno project or were you just a consultant in that one?
Second
a^2+b^2 = c^2
FYI, you can use google maps to find the area.
Throw down an annual to get some roots in and you'll have until late Summer to get the seed you actually want.
You couldn't sell him on laying sod down up around the front and then seed the rest later ?
