I just noticed the Honeybee on the Vanda. They can survive a few days outside a hive but during cold snaps will die from starvation or it may be one that was at the end of it's lifespan. FYI, It takes nine Honeybees their entire life to make one teaspoon of Honey.

PS...The Epidendrum, Reed Orchids make an amazing hanging plant as well....because of their natural growing nature they have a tendency to cascade down and then start growing upwards where the flower spikes dangle in the air and makes quite a spectacular display! You should try it! You won't be disappointed! :)

I love that profusely blooming oncidium!
I sure hate when their flowers all start to drop! What a mess, haha! But oh the fragrance is just too lovely for me to be that bothered

***** Thank you for watching my first orchid video :) You are right, Astrid, about the big mess but it is worth it. I noticed 2 spikes on this plant already last week so hoping for a good display around Christmas time.

Gardening at Douentza Oh goody!! Most of my orchids haven't made spikes, but they are still adjusting to my care. The division I took from my mom's sharry baby has put out a long spike, though, which is unexpected and exciting!!

***** There is always one that surprises us, making the hobby such an exciting one. I'm sure the others will develop soon. I only have 2 oncidiums in spike yet.

Oh, I just love those "Orchids in flower" videos. :) Looking at your gorgeous plants feels a bit like they were here. And I can't wait until that little spike on my Onc. sotoanum matures :D
PS: Little mix-up at 4:55 - you surely meant Brassavola, not Brassia - although that sure would make an interesting hybrid, wouldn't it :D Sorry for nitpicking.

I have a question Rachel my orchids twinkl my bulbs pseudobulbs aren't getting any bigger they're looking like their shrinking smaller and smaller throughout the year do you know what's going on? Please help me I don't want to lose it. Xxxx

    • @GardeningatDouentza

I would guess lack of moisture is the problem. Perhaps try adding more sphagnum into their mix or watering more frequently or keeping in a stop where they dry out less quickly!
