- Yes plant lovers a species orchid that has burst into sprays of fabulous flowers for me this early winter so it's time for a deep dive! Oncidium sotoatum is a native of northern Central America and is a cool to warm growing epiphyte. It was crossed with the species Oncidium cheirophorum to produce the Twinkle group of fragrant miniature oncidiums. This one is easy to grow, takes regular oncidium care, is a prolific flowerer and a very handsome plant! Though mine has a very faint scent it's supposed to be VERY fragrant! Heigh ho - perhaps mine is just the quite silent type! I bought this from:

Oh that's a shame - where abouts are you? If you're in Australia darkstarorchids.com.au/ has one!
@@helloplantlovers I have been wanting this orchid for many years, but couldn't find it , so I gave up. After I watched your video , I went on a searched and found it on Ecuagenera USA. I immediately ordered it. 😀 I'm living in USA. Thank you for letting me know.
@@lienlienchan Ah! Well I'm glad - mine happens to be in spike now as we come into autumn. Good luck with yours - it's a fabulous, easy plant with amazing sprays of blooms - you'll love it!
@@helloplantlovers thank you so much !
She's so pretty and I love the shape of your Terracotta Pot Kinda Guy pot! 🌱😍
Thanks for watching - and I realised as I made the video I should get more of those pots!!!!
You're a treasure! I love your videos!
Thanks for watching!

Thanks for watching - and yes! I think I've got it now!
Beautiful!
Thanks for watching!
Thank you for all your videos! I’m in Melbourne too, so I appreciate all the info you’re giving on cool growing orchids.
Thanks for finding me!
You sound just like me. We must have went to the same school.. except I'm in Michigan and you're in not Michigan..❤😂🎉
Thanks for watching!
Love your sense of style. Should you cut off drying out pseudobulbs without leaves.
Thanks for watching! I would only trim off old and obviously shrivelled pseudobulbs when you re-pot and/or divide a plant. Otherwise, even leafless, they are still contributing energy to the plant if they are still plump and healthy, despite looking a tad unsightly!
Hi Mathew, I am a recently retired Bromeliad junkie but thanks to you with all your test runs on Orchids growing in Melbourne, I now have to confess to having a second habit. My large shade cloth covered pergola is starting to become a mix of both of these great epiphytic plant species. I only buy from Rosella and Red Fox orchids because between them I can get all the Orchids you suggest at a good price in great condition and at flowering sizes. Keep your great videos coming and best of luck with you channel.
Thanks for finding me Steven! I'd also throw Darkstar into the mix for species orchids, Mt Beenak and Nickys Slippers.
@@helloplantlovers Will check them out...Thanks
mine is delicately scented as well, it reminds me most of baby shampoo
Ah! Perhaps mine might kick in on it's second flowering?!
I am very nervous since it looks so delicate . It’s a tiny plant like oncidium twinkle but it has two spikes coming.
which would be suitable slow release fertiliser or liquid fertiliser. Thank you

It gets Upto 90f here in USA . Is it safe to put it outside under a roof outside.
Hi there - thanks for watching - it gets that hot here too in summer. As long as its in shade and is watered correctly it should be fine. They do need a good night time temperature difference though to flower well.
@@helloplantlovers nighttime right now gets Upto 75 f . What is the right way of watering.
@@rubymahajan4235 You need to allow the medium to dry - but not completely - between waterings. So that will depend on your local conditions.
