Actually, Salgueiros played Cannes home in Estádio do Bessa (Boavista's home) because Estádio Vidal Pinheiro didn't have the requirements to play in UEFA. Btw, I feel so glad you talk about this club, a true legend in the portuguese football panorama. Thanks mate! Super channel!

    Another fun fact...
Salgueiros had great players representing the club in that stadium. Biggest reference is of course Deco, the magic number 10! They also had André Silva, that later played for Porto and now represents Leipzig

Well briefly- they tore down the stadium because they were given land to build a new stadium in Arca de Água, which is about 1 mile or so away from the old ground. But the chairman at that time ripped them off and they got relegated and lost everything. Now they're playing in the campeonato de Portugal, which is the 4th tier , so the equivalent to league two but its divided into areas for the first stage(sort of like the papa Johns trophy) .

Hey Sam, you can check Estádio Municipal José Bento Pessoa in Figueira da Foz, near Coimbra. I believe that that stadium is no longer in use. It was owned by Naval 1° de Maio, that was a first division team a few years back. But since the big economic crisis in Portugal, they struggled with finances and now they are extinct. Go to Figueira da Foz, they have a lovely beach!

Hey! I came to your channel through the Belenenses’ video and I’m happy that now you’ve also met Salgueiros! The two teams have a great history of friendship. In 2019, the year of our centenary, Salgueiros was the team invited to play the “Centenário Cup”. Now both teams are in the Campeonato de Portugal (4th tier) fighting for the promotion to Liga 3, with the dream of one day being back to their proper place in the Primeira Liga

If you had visited Portugal last year, you could still visit the Mário Duarte Stadium in Aveiro, 70km south of Porto, this stadium was where Beira-Mar played, who has already won a Portuguese Cup and now plays in the 3rd largest stadium in Portugal in the championship district.
It is a good city to visit, Aveiro and a club with a lot of history to discover.
Eusébio and Oblak arrived and played for Beira-Mar

    Yes, Zidade played against Salgueiros.
Salgueiros eve won one of the games and was eliminated in penalties.

Been there a couple of years ago after watching Salgueiros play in their temporary home. Back then you still could see the big "modern football was Here" Graffiti on the back wall of this big remaining terrace, now overgrown probably.
I was able to visit their Club/Fan house as well, seeing rooms full of all those trophies and the History of the club, that used to be in the stadium, waiting for a new home.
Their fanbase is still very active and I highly recommend visiting a game!

Found the match report in the UEFA pages. Salgueiros played Cannes on the 19th of September of 1991. They actually did not play at this stadium. The game was at Boavista's stadium (Bessa).
Zidane did played and Salgueiros won 1-0 (Da Costa scored the goal). Attendance was around 6,000.
The second leg was in Cannes and it was 1-0 to Cannes. Cannes won on Penalties 4-2.

Great job on these videos mate. Much love from Portugal, you could check out one of the most iconic games in sporting cp's history in that stadium. In 1999, sporting were crowned champions 18 after the last title, they won 4-0. Sporting had Peter Schmeichel in goal, and salgueiros had a striker that started, Miki feher, who eventually moved to Benfica and, unfortunately, passed away during a match. Much love from Portugal, and hopefully you enjoy more of our football's history.

The abandoned Stadium uou can still 100% imagine fans standing on they terraces.
Nothing stands in the way of big business be that a Metro Company or a Supermarket but nothing can destroy history & memory's forged over decades of comradeship in support of your club no matter how big or small that club is.
I remember I think it was about 1994 Celtic where looking at moving to Cambslang it is hard for me to picture Celtic playing just outside of Glasgow I think it's good the idea never got off the ground really other than architectural rendering of what it might look like in reality.
Are you still going to vist Boavista ? I can remember them winning the Portuguese League & also playing Celtic on Celtic's road to Saville.

The match in the UEFA Cup against Cannes sadly wasn’t played in this stadium anyway, it was played at Estadio Do Bessa not sure why but yeah. So Zidanne never played there 😞

Patrocina refers to Delta sponsoring the club , Delta is a big coffee brand in Portugal.

  • @filipesgoncalves

The sponsor thing, there was the delta symbol. Delta is a coffee company here in Portugal. So it said Delta (symbol), sponsors Salgueiros (salgueiros symbol)

Mate the principal reason that the stadium is like that is not the metro station but is because there's no money to keep the teams running when they have a bad couple of seasons together with the club management's

You missed quite a good game Albion Rovers v Kelty Hearts tonight. 0-0 and some good chances at both ends. Albion Rovers probably had the better chances. Kelty had a player sent off for a foul for a goal scoring opportunity.
