  • After making Leila's gun form the movie Vampire Hunter D, I realized that she will need a holster. So whats better than a foam holster for a foam gun.
    Now you can build your own Leila's gun because I have the pattern in my shop.

    Hi Ted, Your approach and explanation makes it look so easy. I realize this comes from years of experience and certainly appreciate you sharing. As for myself am a beginner, and I tell myself practice, practice and be patient.
    Thank you , have a great day

    If people want real holster patters Tandy Leather has several books on the subject. They can be purchased either in store or online. If anyone has any questions on making holsters I would be glad to assist. I ran a leather shop for 5 years and holsters were a mainstay of that work and the same skills transfer to foam. In fact if you used 4mm foam the same exact skills and patterning would work even stitching the foam after gluing to add that effect to the holsters.

      Great suggestion! And for anyone opposed to using real leather for whatever reasons, doe suede is available at most major craft or fabric stores, and while it looks a lot like actual leather, it's actually textile made from vegetable fibers. While sewing skills are a plus working with either doe suede or leather, you can use fabric glue on doe suede, and E6000, Gorilla Glue, or any really good craft glue should work nicely on leather just as well as foam.

      Leather usually requires the very same contact cement that is used by Ted and Bill Doran. Barge or Tanners Bond also available at Tandy.

      I thought so, but didn't know for certain because of my limited experience in leatherworking. Thanks for letting me know about that!

    For everyone reading this, this video is especially useful because even if you're not making a holster specifically for Leila's gun from Vampire hunter D, the techniques can be adapted to other types of prop gun, such as the different Nerf blasters out there that get heavily modified by lunatic Steampunks (not that I'd know anything about that myself... [rapidly hiding my brass goggles behind my back} -_^), or for LARPG players who carry prop pistols in-game.

    Thank you ted! I have to make 6 holsters for my local high schools winter percussion. They are doing a western gun slinger type theme. Obv for school it’s for aesthetic purpose as the can not have guns. The bass drums I’ve been told are going to hold their mallets. I made a prototype out of craft foam and they loved it. Please could you tell me the best and most sturdy glue to use? I’m trying to avoid stitching for extra reinforcement. Please and thank you!

      For your glue use contact cement, and thank you for subscribing.

    The point of a holster is safety as well as storage. The trigger shouldn't be exposed in case it gets hung on something and fired accidentally.

    • @EvilTedSmith
      @EvilTedSmith  6 лет назад +2

      Understood, but it being a foam gun form an Anime I wanted to see more of the gun while it's in the holster.

      Should have drainage too. OK showing the gun, but the bottom looks clumsy. A faux stitch line would have made it better I think

    I realize you have a whole multimedia brand thing going, but "Evil Ted" and the "scary" logo and music is just so wrong for you and your personality. You're a good teacher and seem like kind of a meek mild guy, so the whole "Evil Ted" concept just makes me cringe. I get the play on "Evil Dead", but you do way more sci-fi and hero stuff than horror, so I just don't get it. I really like your videos, I just think the try-hard branding is unappealing.
