Being alone and being happy is better than being with people that drag you down and make you feel miserable. I've had to get rid of toxic people in my life and move on. You can't change other people, you can only change yourself.
Thank you Nancy, your so fucking right. Sorry for the profanity but I really feel this way. I love being alone most of the time (80% lol) I can trust my self. That I can bet on. 🤞😎God bless you all and stay positive till your day comes. Much love 🙏💪💯
I recently lost everything in a fire; thank God my husband, baby, and I got out safe. I thought about this rule as we watched our apartment burn. "We're finally minimalists," my husband joked. 🤷🏻♀️ It's a weird feeling.
I don’t have much as it is but lately I’ve been getting rid of even more stuff. I want my home to feel as calm and peaceful as possible with my fur babies 😳🤪😂 I keep thinking, and actually had a conversation the other day with a friend, if my apartment burned down (because I live in Napa and fires ) what would I absolutely save? My fur babies and what they need, myself and my necessities for a few days and the few plants I have. It’s the living things that matter to me. The rest … most of it can be replaced. I like the spontaneous combustion rule!
After knowing about spontaneous combustion, I was decluttering Halloween decor. I came across a dracula statue that I didn't want but thought my husband may want to display at his work along side a bowl of candy. After a day or two too long, I passed by dracula, he fell and spontaneously combusted. I laughed hysterically!
Im 31 and when I shared this spontaneous combustion concept with my Mom to have an easier way to"let go" of stuff she really doesnt have any use or value to anymore.... Shes 64 and since its kind of new to her she laughed... I guess its gonna be a "lead by example" example then I applied this unknowingly when Marie Kondo's videos in netflix was blowing up back in 2018 or 2019 so i was surprised you guys have a name for this.... Thank you for sharing you guys
When living in a cluttered environment that you can not leave I find it helpful to carve out spaces within it that you can declutter. My bedroom, my bathroom, even the family room chair I sit in are personal places that I have minimized and decluttered. Also by realizing all the other stuff in the space is a value to my family members it stressing me out a bit less...love people!
You should do a house tour of our condo. I feel we have reached the perfect balance between minimalism and respecting the attachments our children have for certain memories.
Thanks for a very thought provoking podcast, I’m looking forward to the private podcast. Also, I have an autoimmune condition and widespread pain, I briefly tried a grounding mat in my bed so thank you for the reminder to stick with it! Be well, Sally 🌹
Remember: A person can feel "Alone" in an entire group of people. A person can be in a crowd, at a party, and interacting with people, and still feel "Alone." You're very right, gentlemen. Being alone and feeling alone are very different.
Feelings of "loneliness" are feelings of emptiness. Emptiness is good; embrace it, ponder on it, and then fill that emptiness with something meaningful. For example, my faith fills mine.
im a loner and i prefere it, i dont have freinds i have acqunitencs, i see people, i chat and then when the convo is done, im done and back to being alone, with my own solitude. different strokes diferent folks. 😊
I’m #111.😀 🤔. I really laughed, nearly choked, when you spontaneously said “clutter coffins”.😂 I just moved to a smaller rental, but not by choice, withholding the family photos and mementos, and my own burdening things of 30 years. That put a new perspective on the desire to get rid of the “dead”.😆 I also went to movies alone. It freaked people out, because I would dress somewhat like the characters.. 😅 Grounding, as I have come to know is about the absorption of magnesium. Magnesium is horribly low in the average diet, and in poor farm soil. It regulates Vit D, calcium, hormones. and many other important biological processes. Magnesium is easily absorbed through the skin. That is why Epsom salt foot baths are leaned toward, especially in the autism world and for migraine sufferers. Ionization is what is experienced by being near moving waters.🙂 I liked how you mentioned that there are three types of friendships. It opens the mind as to how much time and energy one should offer. Kind of how like how much time and energy is given to clean each room for oncoming guests.
Thanks for sharing your experience about Earthing/Grounding. I got right on that and it works very well. I am keeping it up and bought grounding mats to make it easier. I had heard about this about 6 months ago but did not pay much attention to it but after hearing your experience I first tried it outside and when it was so successful I bought the mats. Thanks for sharing.
You say earthing? I am hard cord mold avoider, mostly living in tent in my backyard or in camp, sleeping on very thin japanese futon matress, canot be more earther than I am lol. Earth, woods, sea is healing our body… I was in great amount of pain and it is saving life. Mold avoiders are usually extreme minimalists too, because we have to be able to leave everything behind in split of a second because of cross contamination. Erik Johnson is the Pioneer of mold avoidance for decades… guy had to leave EVERYTHING behind many times and detox himself in desert or in woods laying on earth. It would be great if you have him in studio once 🤩
Don’t throw away what you can sell or donate. That’s wasteful. Ask yourself WHY you want to try minimalism? Then ask yourself what is important to you? Think about the things you have and the different areas of your life. Start getting rid of the things that are not important to you.
Watch Less is Now on Netflix. I've just packed my entire kitchen up and am slowly gonna bring things out that I need and that add value to my life. Then next month I'll do the same to a different room and so on. The place feels so light already ❤️
I remember asking myself if my yearbooks spontaneously combusted, would I mourn them or feel relieved. Answer: relieved.

Amen
absolutely. If they don’t add value get them out. If they bring you down, definitely get them out.

We’re glad you and your family are OK! ❤️

"Low grade misery isn't enough pain for us to actually make a change.." this, omg.... ughhhh
I agree with the caller that said you two are like therapists! I love you guys so much, thank you for what you do!
I've been using this rule the past 2 weeks! I am so grateful for this rule!

I appreciate you two and your staff so much ~ thank you!!
You guys are hilarious! If ever you get tired of the minimalism, you should consider comedy. Seriously!
Why not both? :D
