    I've been confused about this question for a long time but haven't gotten many solid answers with reasoning. When I do a float serve, which part of my hand hits the ball?

    • @pjvolleyballtutorials7813
      @pjvolleyballtutorials7813  2 года назад +83

      When hitting a float serve you really want to try and hit the ball with the palm of your hands flat on the ball. Hitting the ball with your palm really makes it easier to hit the ball with little to no spin compared to hitting with other parts of your hand. Yet, even when we should hit the ball with the palm of our hands, it is inevitable that our fingers will also contact the ball, but you should mainly feel the contact being on your palm! Also, when hitting the ball with your palm, you kind of want to have a pushing motion forwards rather than snapping your wrists like you normally would for a standing serve and a spike to prevent the ball from spinning and really get the float on the ball. Hope this helps!

      There are many ways. For example in beach Volleyball a lot of people do floats by striking the ball with the bottom of their palm.
      I know many veteran plans that strike the ball specifically with where their palm and the base of their fingers meet.
      For me, just keeping a flat hand and aiming to strike the bottom of the ball works well enough. Figure out what works for you, and stay focused so that once you hit one, you can identify what you did differently and replicate it.

    wait how do i help myself slow down my jump floats? My jump floats float and are aggressive but when i see high level play, jump floats are generally slower and float more at a slower pace. So how do i slow it down/make it less aggressive

    • @pjvolleyballtutorials7813
      @pjvolleyballtutorials7813  2 года назад +10

      I think if you are looking to slow down your serve, your run up and swing speed would definitely be your biggest factor to watch out for. If you want to slow down the pace of your serve, you want to try and executing your run up a little slower and swing with less power and speed as a faster swing is what makes the ball travel much faster. But we just want to emphasize that although you might be seeing in professional play that their jump floats are slower paced and may make your serve seem not professional, we believe that a strong and aggressive jump float is a very good serve and you should try mixing your serves up in game to confuse the opponents! Hope this helps!

      @themanandthemyth4176 2 года назад +3

      @@pjvolleyballtutorials7813 thank you!! that does help!! 1 more question, in your own personal experience, what do you believe is hard to receive? The slower paced floats, or the more aggressive floats?

    • @pjvolleyballtutorials7813
      @pjvolleyballtutorials7813  2 года назад +4

      @@themanandthemyth4176 Great question! From personal experience, although there are times in which more aggressive floats are definitely harder to receive with the speed and impact it is coming at, the slower paced floats can also be very difficult to receive when placed really well as you tend to underestimate the serve and start to get lazy. Both have their strengths and I really believe how you place and utilize the serves at the right times will be the game changer!

    I’ve heard that you should either contact the ball with just the palm and the whole hand at the same time ( curving your hand into the shape of the ball when hitting) which one should I do? I have the jump and toss down well but I keep hitting the ball with spin

    • @PKZ21
      @PKZ21 2 года назад +1

      Try keeping your palm firm

    • @max.nguyenn
      @max.nguyenn 2 года назад

      Curving your hand into the shape of the ball will just result in a regular jump serve. If you curve your hand to the shape of the ball, it will result in a lot of spin, making it a regular jump serve. Keep your hand and palm flat, so that only the palm hits the ball. This will minimize spin, making it a jump float serve.

    • @pjvolleyballtutorials7813

      Ideally we prefer to toss the ball right before our penultimate step (the second to last step) so that you are able to time to jump with respect to the height of your toss. Many feel that this is the most comfortable when hitting a jump float serve!
