For more than 40 years, this movie was the movie that sold the highest number of tickets in France. That's one hell of a record! And it's a very popular movie to this day. Every time it's on TV, it's watched by a lot of people. Maybe it isn't as popular now among the young population (they may find it really old-school), but it's a classic, with a capital C.
You should really consider watching it entirely if you have the possibility.

This is the scene before the one at the Turkish bath.
An English plane was shot down over Paris.
Before jumping with a parachute, Big Moustache, the squadron leader, arranged to meet the two other crew members, Macintosh and Peter at the Turkish bath.
Macintosh , who landed on the opera house and was hidden by the conductor, then asks him to take him to the Turkish bath.

The torn jacket is perfectly normal. The RAF pilot had to undress and put on clothes that were not his size, hence the tearing... If you google the verb "vadrouiller", you'll see that it means "to wander" or "to hang around"; basically, the 2 main characters (Bourvil and De Funès) have to leave Paris, at some point in the script, to go to Burgundy in various means of transportation, which makes their journey epic, hence "La Grande Vadrouille" (The big journey or the big trip)

it's a film that still remains in the box office record for cinema admissions in France today. If you also want to laugh, I recommend, always with Loui de Funes, the film "The Little Bather" and particularly the scene with the tractor, when Louis de Funes gets off the seat. I don't see any more to say, but you're going to burst out laughing. I am French and I am 62 years old. Louis de Funes rocked my childhood and he still makes me laugh today. He is an actor who knew how to make himself adored by only playing deceitful, cowardly, traitorous, surly and angry roles. I'm very happy that you like it as an American.

You really got to see the whole 1966 MOVIE... it's among french Classics we get to see every year or almost on TV...
Another one coming ( like Maria carey) every winter in Christmas' TV programs is "LE PERE NOEL EST UNE ORDURE" (= Santa's a Punk/a filthy guy)
"L'Aile ou la Cuisse" wich you already reacted to is another LOUIS de FUNES Classic Movie regularly reprogrammed on TV... (this film is a beautyful social criticism of industrialised/processed food in a country were food matters!)
Louis de Funes is like Jean Gabin and Lino Ventura is a Giant icone of French Cinema...
We (Gen X at least) can never get rid of its humour and perfect acting.
Thanx for probing his acting is perfect and international...

It’s a movie, « La grande Vadrouille », for the english market the film had the title of « Don’t look now... we’re being shot at! ». I think if you love these few bits so far, you’d love the movie. (The sequence at the Turkish bath, that you already showed, follows the scene you are showing here.)
P.S. : I’m so used to the name that I didn’t know what the french title meant. A « vadrouille » is a sort of ballad, ride that has no particular purpose. So with « Grande » added it means « Long » or « Great » ballad.

Many de funes movies were played on the french tv during the covid lockdown. In the grande vadrouille, there many betters scenes than this one, my favorite is the scene in the opéra when he is leading the orchestra.
Just take a look to one of his most famous scene, in the movie called OSCAR it s a scene where he is playing with his noise you will see something amazing best regards
