I'm currently preparing a campaign where one of my players will be an Eladrin Druid. Since I like the idea of druids only being able to wildshape into creatures they know well this will be (one of) her form(s). The idea is that she and her family had a fairy dragon as a pet/companion when she was little. Her personality also somewhat matches that of a fairydragon. Can't wait to see it play out.
Funnily enough my first character I ever got to play was a Fae Dragon, our Gm had the idea that it'd be a less complicated character to play, and it was a blast!
Having scales, they might not understand how painful or dangerous that is for a mammal. They might think it's an irrational fear to something nearly harmless and it's funny to watch us overreact.
Imagine a Copper Dragon having its lair in a mountainous jungle region. It would surely make lots of friends among Faerie Dragons. Just think of this huge prankster being surrounded by a swarm of tiny butterfly-dragons, pulling pranks on EVERYONE in the area. Could make for a fun quest hook...
You walk through a village, and as everyone gets up in the morning, a series of unfortunate and hilarious events overtake the townfolk. It's absolute chaos for a couple minutes, as everyone is triggering prank traps throughout the town. Then the mayor is like "Alright, that's it! We must find who these pranksters are and bring them to justice!" But unfortunately it becomes like a witch hunt, and people seize the accused pranksters and lock them up, only to be pranked again the next morning. The only lead is apparent robberies of the bakery and candy shops...
"they can be bribed with sweets, baked goods and bubbles" i've never felt so aligned with something in my life. i am a faerie dragon and i am now expecting as many bubbles as you can muster
They're little pricks, swapped my wizards wand with a regular stick. I failed 2 death saves before my cleric got close enough to heal me in the next encounter.
I once had a person in my party always carry around cookies in case they found a fairy dragon. It somehow paid off and they gotten a new companion. The whole party came up with the name Crumpet
Could be used to blow up a bridge and then cast an illusion to make it look like it's still there. The adventurers would fall into a river and the dragon would have a laugh and maybe if their lucky leave behind a cart that has sweets in it.
What better way to wake up a whole village at 5 am? Maybe a group of faerie dragons learn this to make a pyrotechnic show for a small town in exchange of a pie festival. But I would say, that as fey and forest dweling creature... they would stay the HECK AWAY from fire magic.
What better way to convince a little village that a big bad red dragon is there and demands lots of apple pie, and is totally not just a major illusion, than to toss around a few fireballs?
in my first game, AD&D, my fighter had a faerie dragon companion through the power of shared joy for pranks and regular offers of sweets. No magical bond or mechanical connection just good roleplaying leading to a deep friendship that at one point saved my characters life as the faerie dragon negotiated on his behalf with a trapped shadow dragon and often led to my character claiming to be the faerie dragons familiar.
Their pretty much dragons that where affected by the shadowfell. It makes them slightly evil and stealthier. Though I assume they have the same habits as their original form.
So Fairy Dragons like sweets...hmmmm.....*looks at past character sheets* If only I knew this four years ago...my Gnome Chef could have had a fairy friend...
Me, talking to my fairy dragon familiar: “Come on Dew, just hop up there and take a look, please?” Dew: “Ruh-uh, no way” Me: “...” Me: “Would you do it for a Scooby Snack?”
I would personally say that the wings would change at a much more gradual pace.... so a newborn faerie dragon would be entirely red or maybe even with clear wings until they're strong enough to fly which would be when they start gaining color, and then as it ages, the color fades into the wings.... so a violet fairy dragon would have a full rainbow on its wings where the tips haven't changed from red yet.... then, as they get even older, their wings would start to lose some of the other colors as the violet takes over.... so a pure violet faerie dragon would be extremely old
Dragon wings are made from a membrane not scales, so when the art changed I'd say the wings stay the same color, when they were drawn with a more "insect wing" feel to them I'd say that they'd still stay the same color to match with the original lore. Although I'd add in that the older they get the more sheen of various colors from their past age categories add to the brilliance of the wings. But to each gm/dm their own.
Isn't that specific to a certain kind of butterfly? I seem to remember reading an article about a scaled butterfly in South America that inspired some blue car paint technology with odd reflective and durable property's.

I am running a campaign where one of the players is playing a Faerie Dragon from homebrew rules. Thank you for this video it will help give him better ideas on how to play his little dragon.
Okay, I already knew I liked Faery Dragons because of them being pranksters. But learning how social they are, and their addiction to sweets? I absolutely love it! I’ll have to either make one a friend to a character, or set up some little encounters featuring these tiny sweeties for my players in a multi-planar campaign I’m setting up.
I'm actually taking this series as my go-to to define my starting point on how to use the creatures in my own games. Also I'm making the "corrections" by upgrading their stats with the "correct" lore. My players will for certain enjoy those tougher enemies and allies.
I had a session where my players were asked to bring a tribute for an ancient knight that protected a village. The tribute was raisins, nuts, honey combs, and an apple pie. The knight was a faerie dragon living inside a suit of animated armor and tricked the village into feeding it by using the menacing (to a commoner) armor to intimidate them. The players tried to give the tribute but the armor (being a mindless construct) attacked them so they had to destroy it, but you shoulda seen their reactions when the armor got mirror imaged. The faerie dragon revealed itself after the fight and they gave her the treats in exchange for being shown where an old treasure hoard was hidden.
But What About Kobolds? We need lore too! We have been here way longer than Dragon Born and are also playable, why don't we get a video? Most adventurers will encounter more Kobolds than any other Draconic Race, and yet we do not get a Video.
Am I crazy remembering them as little dog men? When I was told they were tiny dragon men I was sooo confused. Was it in a previous edition before 5e or am I just misremembering
Kinda sad, that you leave big boy Bahamut and sister Tiamat to the celestial/gods part. Would have been a good end for the dragon segment i.m.o. but you do you ... it is of excellent quality.
In my DM'ing, I used these dragons for comic relief. They played pranks. When the players turned salty on the pranks, they were old-school at the time and almost immune to magic and had a euphoria breath weapon. They were the perfect monsters to use when players get salty over a prank and go hostile. I am ancient, so I doubt that they are so great at it now.
Small detail, but Fae are vulnerable to cold IRON, not steel. Been a while since I read up on D&D Fae, so they may have changed the lore for the game, but yeah. In real Fae lore it's cold iron.
@@K_i_t_t_y84 An excellent question. The reason is that in the old legends, Fae were weak to specifically COLD iron. This meant iron that had never been treated by fire or flame, as opposed to just being at a low temperature. So while steel does have iron in it, the metals had to be heated and smelted in order to form the steel alloy. 😊
I have a book called a Practical Guide to Dragon Riding, and in the back of the book, there is a small entry about faerie dragons. And there is something said in the book that wasn't mentioned in this video, and that thing is that faerie dragons have a breath weapon that causes their enemy to become so happy that they don't wanna fight.
as I am designing a campaign that will be set in the faywild (which happens to be my first campaign I create for the first game I will DM), this spesific video is very useful to me, now that I know about them more extensively I'll be able to incorporate one or two of those Faerie Dragons in said campaign, thank you :D

Actually butterfly wings are covered in scales. Blue is not a naturally occurring pigmentation in butterflies, they only appear to have blue wings because of how light reflects off the scales on their wings.

Epic dragons gem dragons. Song dragons. Boy you ain't done
Deep dragons!
Fang dragons
Yeah but for deep dives we have AJ Pickett. He's got aaaaaaaaaall the dragons. Even the gem variations
He's given Rhexx a few shout outs too whenever he drops a video covering stuff he missed
Is this fucking aj's channel no it isnt. I don't care what aj does. we want rhexx to do it. Cause aj misses shit. So stop telling us to settle and stop pretending aj's are so much deeper when there not on average rhexxs have way different info so I would thank you to shut the fuck up.
Loving it
Celestial sounds so good. I'll be looking forward to watching those.
Can't be the end of dragons yet. You haven't covered shadow, fang, song, or gem dragons yet
I am running a campaign where one of the players is playing a Faerie Dragon from homebrew rules. Thank you for this video it will help give him better ideas on how to play his little dragon.
What about Half-dragons, they're way more related to dragons than dragonborns, pseudodragons and faerie dragons
I will admit, I was curious about the lore when I heard them mentioned. I thought they were the same thing as dragonborn! lol
As insect-like dragons. It makes sense they CRAVE for sweets.
Dude, talk about anything you want. I subscribed for your voice, so I'll take anything XD
Wondering if you were thinking about doing the gem dragons at all. I kniw we don't have them for 5e yet but we do have stuff on them from 3.5 and such
I'm actually taking this series as my go-to to define my starting point on how to use the creatures in my own games. Also I'm making the "corrections" by upgrading their stats with the "correct" lore. My players will for certain enjoy those tougher enemies and allies.
BLUE DRAGONS!?!?!?! PLEASE I NEED THEM!!!!
ruclips.net/video/JGqJlNyHjE4/видео.html
Already went through them
Thank you I couldn't find the video anywhere on his channel
fire ball to the face...
"Its just a prank, bro! Look there, its camera!"
Could you do imp by any chance?
Your videos have been extremely influential on how I play creatures, thank you so much!
Would you consider doing one on trolls, orcs, and goblins? I'd love to learn more about the lore of them and the different types.
9:05 no faerie dragon video without the best known faerie dragon B]
Puck ehh.
That is such a cool looking dragon
Would love to hear about the giant purple wurm The one that had the instakill poison.
Yes! Give video! Video for Tucker's yipping hordes!
i thought kobold were just moving punching ball
Am I crazy remembering them as little dog men? When I was told they were tiny dragon men I was sooo confused. Was it in a previous edition before 5e or am I just misremembering
Where are the rules that say certain things are not playable?
Please never stop making videos i wach you every morning to start my day and my imagination thanks to you i never have a dull day
Kinda sad, that you leave big boy Bahamut and sister Tiamat to the celestial/gods part.
But Steel has iron in it? Why wouldn't they be weak to both?
@@K_i_t_t_y84 An excellent question. The reason is that in the old legends, Fae were weak to specifically COLD iron. This meant iron that had never been treated by fire or flame, as opposed to just being at a low temperature. So while steel does have iron in it, the metals had to be heated and smelted in order to form the steel alloy.
😊
I have a book called a Practical Guide to Dragon Riding, and in the back of the book, there is a small entry about faerie dragons. And there is something said in the book that wasn't mentioned in this video, and that thing is that faerie dragons have a breath weapon that causes their enemy to become so happy that they don't wanna fight.
can you make goblinoids. loved this one great job
"Dis somebody say, Goblins?"
*Heavy Metal Intensifies*
3:53
"and Grains..."
AND BRAINS??
Oh... oh okay.
What about the gem dragons and 3rd party dragons like from tome of beasts? Those would be cool. Although it will be cool to see other things though.
I wanna play a faerie dragon trickster cleric now.
Will you make a Shadow Dragon Video?
theres not much lore on them tho, they are just chromatic dragons born and corrupted in the shadowfell
as I am designing a campaign that will be set in the faywild (which happens to be my first campaign I create for the first game I will DM), this spesific video is very useful to me, now that I know about them more extensively I'll be able to incorporate one or two of those Faerie Dragons in said campaign, thank you :D
A project of Fae Dragon from FR by NeonDragon?
i want to thank you for making these videos, it really has gotten me into dnd lore. sorta like a bestiary your videos are super informal as a player (and future DM) all this info is going to be super handy
Mr.Rexx could you do videos on Gryphons and other Gryphon like creatures? Please 🤓
Griffon. But yes. This. ^^^
@@AmigoRoberto Griffin!
Aaaw! I was hoping to see videos about Force and Prismatic dragons as well. I love your D&D videos Mr. Rhexx
When will you do the elder brain
Yes! My suggestion from the last video finally made it! Last but not least (except maybe in stature). My players have learned to fear these little tricksters. So cute but so innocently deadly.
hey after the dragons can you do one on displacer beasts?
kinda want to know more about those guys
What about iron dragons and gem dragons
I wish I didn't find you for another few years so I could just binge the dnd videos
After dragons can you talk about giths?
Giths, as in Githiyanki and Githzerai?
@@Shrooms-gud4ya Yes
Woah! I'm setting up a campaign at the moment set in a tropical dungeon and this is perfect. Thanks for this, dude!
Actually butterfly wings are covered in scales.
Blue is not a naturally occurring pigmentation in butterflies, they only appear to have blue wings because of how light reflects off the scales on their wings.
YAAAAAAAY you’re still making videos!!!!
Who drew the picture used in the thumbnail? Link to their gallery if possible?
I would like to know too. It was really well made and beautifully colored! :o
YESSS Faerie dragons, Finally. Now just do the rest: song dragons, gem dragons etc. So far it has been great, keep up the good work!
