There are no rules for getting animal companions or familiars in D&D 5e outside of the Beast Master Ranger and the Find Familiar, Find Steed And Find Greater Steed spells. And for good reason; those are mechanical solutions to a role playing problem. Familiars and animal companions are just that; companions, friends, even family. You don’t buy a dog and expect to follow all your commands. You spend time with them, train them, get to know them. That’s why there aren’t any good systems in place for acquiring a companion. They have to be earned. My mind swims with possibilities for pets and familiars now. Thank you.

my group treats the pact of the chain familairs to be the real versions of what the find familiar takes the shape of so your patron has sent this psuedodragon to be your familiar but you if you treat it badly it will leave so the warlock would need to find a new familiar. but having the bond is advantageous to these creatures since the find familiar is a version of raise dead to them that use's the warlocks power to bring them back so they are less at risk of being dead. but this is how my group see's and treats it.
I recently was given a Pseudodragon in my friends dnd session and I'm a rouge, I named him Kevin and won him over in a library with coins after he laughed at me for falling in a trap. I will fight anyone who hurts him. My character is also an elf which according to this vid is rare.

I love them. I want to protect them. I will give them ALL of the cuddles.
77FantasyAngel77 same
I love your D&D videos.
Can you please make a video about the Tarrasque at some point?
I'd go for that
i think he has already done that
@@markovski5888 not at the time of writing
*My Wizard:* oh, hello there fellah, what's your name?
*Pseudo-Dragon:* He who ate the last cookie and does not regret it one bit.
*My Wizard:* hmn...since you appeared while i was working on my spellbook i shall call you...Doodles!
I now want a real psuedodragon more than I've ever wanted anything else in my life.
By the gods I freakin adore this channel, I can’t imagine what my life and games would be like without your deep, meaningful and entertaining insight into all the fantastic races and monsters of DnD. Thank you for all your work man, you’re a legend.
Why do you avoid saying the phrase Psuedo-Dragon orgy.
Avoiding the RUclips police bots
you are CLEARLY over amused with this video .. your voice tone says it all .. you had too much fun making this one!
Please.
Talk about Null, and his two aspects, reaver (Falzure) and the guardian of the lost (chronepsis).
You have convinced me Pseudo-dragons are amazing and I'm probably going to see if my Centaur Wizard can find one.
Your videos are such a fun watch. Thanks for the content.
Thank you so much fr this information, it has really helped me in creating a character's backstory, a Tiefling bard befriends a pseudodragon through the power of her song, I never would have thought of this without this video, so thank you!
Edit: Also, yes, the manual needs more information on these creatures, especially about their chameleon properties, also, that rainbow one at 16:29 is so cool!
Easy way to refer to it in a cute way while playing on its pride, “LOOK AT MY TINY BEST FRIEND! ISNT HE GREAT? HE IS SO HANDSOME AND GREAT!”
My Paladin has just acquired a Psudodragon, this was really helpful. Thank you.
what are good things to buy for them?
IDEA TIME: Unusually strong and intelligent pseudodragon learns to manipulate tools with their mouth, tail, and feet. Intrigued and amused by this, a local stone giant offers to take the pseudodragon as an apprentice. A few years later, the tiny dragon now has class levels. 18 of them. In fighter. WITH THE RUNE KNIGHT SUBCLASS.
I feel like it would be good to go through all the important/ main dragons before moving on, or maybe just sprinkling them in with other creatures. The sheer amount of detail in these videos just makes all of the dragons seem so interesting!
Gem dragons please, could you do Golems for your next series?
Yes, gems. Though I don't know if he'll do them without an official 5E release.
Nick L. I would definitely like it if he did a thing on golems.
Schnieder6 He did the Fanged Dragon and Astral Dragon a while back and they don't have 5E releases yet.
@@thefandomguy4202 Right, but I'm under the impression that the "What They Don't Tell You About _____" videos are made to cover what was left out in their 5e releases.
*Play as a kobold with a pseudodragon companion.*
Someone asks" How cute, is this your pet?"
The kobold answers: " Thanks, yes I am that mini dragon's pet."
And now my druid needs to befriend a pseudodragon..
😁
Ranger. More specifically, their animal companion. Imagine that. He doesn’t really care for the pc, but he is bffs with his mastiff
Same, man. I know for a fact that my druid would absolutely *adore* a pseudodragon.
Jaded Optimist a blind ranger, that relies on the pseudodragon to see and shoot

I learned something very important from this video. Something that honestly should have been obvious from the start.
Thank you.
I’d like it if you could eventually do a video on Bahamut.
And or Tiamat
Bahamut is best god
2:20 MrRhexx talking about how to butcher and sell pseudo-dragon bits
Me: the Pseudo will decide your fate
MrRhexx: I am the Pseudo
Me again: aw crap you're right I can't argue with that
That is why I need you to talk about the Steel Dragon is really interesting
I'm in a campaign where my character saved a Psuedodragon and it became a friend. THIS VIDEO IS GOLD! I love your videos on what the MM doesn't tell you and I got super bummed when you covered all the Dragons so this video means alot to me. THANK YOU!
Pseudodragons? Sure, I'll love to have one as a pe-
I mean, as a friend ;D
Awesome video, thoroughly researched. Great job as always! ^^
Could you do a video on fairie dragons next? Always thought these were really intriguing creatures :)
Love these vids!!!!! I cannot explain how much. BTW I think booboo was the best cute name example you used :333
I’d love to hear about the Epic dragons like prismatic and force if possible. Either way, really enjoy these monster ecology videos! Really makes the game feel deeper
And the fabled sword dragon ... apparently it breathes swords
Lol that would be an amazing joke video though
Damian Fry Saw that on Reddit. Absolutely majestic creature
Thank you for this! I was gifted a unique homebrew treasure item. A jeweled PseudoDragon figurine that allows me to summon a pseudodragon 5 times a day and the rest of the time it relaxes in the ethereal plane. It liked the name I gave it so now we're best buddies, and I try to give him a gem or something pretty to amuse himself when I have to send him back. (Sparkles Kosei-Teki Pendragon!) or just Sparkles for short. (Sparkling Unique Chief of the Dragons) (I'm a Neutral Good Hill Dwarf Druid (circle of the moon))
Just bought your PDF on the new Playable Monsters.
Definitely do Tiamat!
She's one of the most iconic dragons from D&D, and would deserve one of these videos from you.
“I’m not a pet, bitchboi. I am BUBBLES!”
The most surprising fact is that age, I would have thought they would be more long lived like other dragons.
Tiamat and Bahamuth! plssss, love your D&D videos! Ive been so happy since u've been making them again
2:14 (credits to harpy productions)
You never told us how black dragons mate bro... they’re the coolest of the chromatics man... (I’m my opinion)
I'm on my very first D&D campaign ever. I just gained a PseudoDragon pal on my second session and I'm realizing how crazy good this little guy is!
my group treats the pact of the chain familairs to be the real versions of what the find familiar takes the shape of so your patron has sent this psuedodragon to be your familiar but you if you treat it badly it will leave so the warlock would need to find a new familiar. but having the bond is advantageous to these creatures since the find familiar is a version of raise dead to them that use's the warlocks power to bring them back so they are less at risk of being dead. but this is how my group see's and treats it.
I really like your videos they're really informative and I just love learning about them in general so thank you for covering them ^-^
I recently was given a Pseudodragon in my friends dnd session and I'm a rouge, I named him Kevin and won him over in a library with coins after he laughed at me for falling in a trap. I will fight anyone who hurts him. My character is also an elf which according to this vid is rare.
Been waiting for this one, thanks Rhexx!!
Faerie Dragons would be awesome next
I used this in my session last Sunday. Great info, and Tubbles the Pseudodragon is a beloved member the group now.
Does this mean that a female pseudodragon could have different colored babies, if they each have a different father?
Imagine a nest filled with all the chromatic dragons. Also can psuedodragons be metallic?
Edit: Well, I guess they are chameleons.
Great content, bro. Love your consistency, you're inspiring me
My character (A shirtless barbarian): how dare thou call sprinkles a pet!?
i would love if you'd bring out a giant book with all the information you're always covering!!! :)
tnx ffor the great videos!!
Are Faerie Dragons the Fey equivalent of Pseudodragons?
Pretty much, they also are more powerful and change color and gain ablities as they age. You can also use their breath attack for drugs
I can see an adventurer having a bag dedicated as the pseudodragon's "lair." It would be hanging off the side and filled with shiny buttons and a fur lining. Occasionally you would see the dragon's head pop out of the opening to look around.
MMMM THEY'RE SO CUTE. I want a wittle baby dragon friend ;w;
I would love it if you did a series on Giants next. It would be a great segway from the dragons and you can fit in the ancient hatred that the two species have for each other.
Memo to self
Step 1: Get pseudodragon
Step 2: Name captain cuddlemuffins
Step 3: Dress in tiny sailor outfit
Step 4: something happens
Step 5: Become king of pseudodragons
This would be like the most powerful Pseudodragon of all time.
Thank you for putting your sources in the description.
How'bout sub species? like purple dragons, cobalt, sand and others?
He is starting with the one's in the 5e Monster manual, maybe he Will tackle thoose later, I think so
The hiss at himself tho... ;) . Loved it.
2:14 you know what else does not talk about how something mate? you, you dont talk about how black dragon mate. you have been throught all the chromatic and metalic dragons and beyond. and you explained how all of them mate. except the black dragon
They go for a roll in the mud........
hardcore bdsm lol
serious, i have been asking for this since he talked about a dragon after the black dragon, i did not knew he would make it part of the series to talk about their mating. so when he talked about all mating rituals but the black dragon ones. it anoyed me. why you dont want to talk about their mating rituals?
Bit of an over reaction maybe?
Mr. Rhexx blushing as he was talking about their "mating ritual" was the peak of these dragon series.
Could you not roast my character or my familiar? They’re best friends and don’t view their partnership as slavery. In all fun though great video about an interesting creature
I think he mean that in general cases, I know there are exceptions even for the chromatic dragon or Beholder.
That's like my warlock. He has a sprite as a companion. They are best friends. In fact, they are each other's only friend. Haha. In fact, the only argument they ever have is when I have to send my sprite away to keep it out of harms way. It protests each time, saying my character NEEDS its help! He's very "dobby"ish
It’s kind of funny, while in general the relationship of find familiar is that of master and slave, a friend of mine made a character who had a familiar that was bound to him as punishment. It was an obnoxious and grating crow who would take every opportunity to show itself into the conversation. It was a fun little twist on the usual relationship and I still remember it years later.
My personal loophole is that the spirit the spell gives form to is, in fact, a pseudodragon ghost. Tangy(short for tangerine, her scales are orange) was bonded to my warlock before her untimely death, but a well-timed pact boon (plus joining the campaign at level 3) brought her back.
I really love these videos. Keep up the good work
