    ABOUT LOUIS
    ………………….
I’m Louis Massaro, author of 10 Rules of a Profitable Moving Company and founder of Moving Mastery, a mentoring, coaching, and education company dedicated to helping entrepreneurs in the moving industry increase profits by implementing proven strategies in marketing, sales, and operations.
I help entrepreneurs and business owners unlock their company’s full potential so that they can not only make more money but live a more balanced, fun, and fulfilling life.
When I opened my first moving company in 2000, I was a 19-year-old kid that started by placing an ad in the yellow pages and renting a couple of trucks. At first, my office was the parking lot of the truck rental yard where I dispatched the crews out of my car. I was struggling to operate on a shoestring budget and maxed out credit cards. It was not a professional set up. When drivers and helpers came for an interview they thought it was a joke.
Although it wasn’t an easy start, every obstacle and setback were opportunities to learn. It took me a few years of making a ton of mistakes and constantly saying to myself “there’s got to be a better way to do this” before I really developed a solid process and system.
I finally mastered a system for running a very profitable moving & storage company, while also discovering how to have balance in my life and not work crazy hours. I took that system and started opening up several offices in cities throughout the US where we sold over $20 Million per year in moves.
I’ve also taught and continue to teach my system to others. My students have gone on to build their own multi-million dollar moving companies. They continue to thrive and profit while they are able to spend more time with family and doing the things they love in life.
I’m blessed to have had some tremendous success in the moving industry, building a nationwide company from scratch that provided a great service to tens of thousands of customers each year. After 16 years in business, I’m fortunate to be able to have sold my companies and enjoy the fruits of my labor.
I’m passionate about helping entrepreneurs avoid unnecessary struggles and stresses while becoming more profitable in their business and happier in their lives! I hope that the free information on this site provides you with great value and look forward to meeting you someday.

This was very specific, it's rare that someone actually gives that much value.
    Thank you!
We've already implemented a lot of that but thanks to your tips we'll make some tweaks to make this work even better.

Nice video. I need a formula to determine the types of boxes 1.5, 3.0, 4.5, 6.0, Dish Packs, Mirror Packs, Wardrobe Boxes needed, and how you can deduct this when you have PBOs.

Best video that I've seen so far, Louis. How long is that typical moving call when you are digging so thoroughly? And do customers typically book on the first call? Thank you, "my friend". :)

Depends on the size of the move honestly. 40 minutes to an hour for a good sized 3 bedroom is pretty typical.

What are your thoughts on flat rates right now? In town is hourly and out of town is flat. But I'm wondering what you thought about just going strictly flat rate.

It looks awesome on the website. It's a bit (or not exactly a bit) over the budget of a South-Eastern Europe moving company like us though :)

It seems to me that this video is all over the place. I think maybe do separate sessions on hourly rate and weight basis moves. All sales personnel should start out doing in house estimates for at least 6 months. Phone estimates have their place, but the interrogation method is awful. It's like trying to guess my weight over the phone. Photos, videos are better but over 4 rooms get off your butt and go out and upsell that job. Steep driveways, low wires, high value items, packing tips, ect... Doing a carton count by the "divide by 100" is as silly as the old "count the windows', times 1100 lbs...At lease attempt to cube items into the appropriate carton. Very simple and no matter what size carton the packers use- 3-3.0's vs. 2-4.5's it does not matter. Unless you enjoy being a commercial visitor, start the inventory in the room in which you have been brought into. Inventory the items left to right so that if you get interrupted you can easily go back to where you left off. Your company should have a HHG cover sheet - ground floor to ground floor - weight- cube- how many men, for how many hours- add 10% elevators, 5% per long carry- and so on...on hourly rate estimates there is no need to LIST these considerations. Just include them in your overall hourly rate bid. I you have a consultant that deviates from that formula, they should be able to explain why. Such as 200 1.5 book cartons from 3rd floor library or 15 pieces of wicker in the garage- This is very important if you are asking local owner operators to handle binding or not to exceed estimates. If they contest the estimate with in 30 minutes of arrival the consultant should be available to either explain the variance or attempt to get a addendum signed by the shipper. If it's a company driver/crew then you as the owner/manager should be aware of the cost vs. revenue difference. Too much to go into weight basis here...Good Luck from the 1000 year old mover.

Some moving companies run their pricing through a mobile app under Allied or North American Van Lines-- out of our control though, right? Its all due to supply and demand-- also out of our control. Thoughts? Suggestions? @LouisM

Simple. figure your cost to move, then triple it.
