Instead of PU Naples you can follow the Provence mission tree to get Naples. They get cores on all of Naples ( so no AE if you take their lands) and then claims Aragon.
Fun fact, if Jean Bureau is dead and you still don't have finished the mission you can recruit a general, name him Jean Bureau (don't forget the capital letters) and you can finish it
Found this out the hard way. Had Jean Bureau die before the Surrender of Maine and I thought it would be funny to name a new general after him only for the mission to be completed after
great choice. I played them immediately after new patch and now I cant finish their mission tree cause one idea and even dont have revolutionary ideas :D
I prefer to conquer it, otherwise is too easy. It's infuriating when Burgundy releases their pus mid war and game considers them allies so double AE. Happened to me as castile a few days ago

You could use the alliance favor interactions to ask the Papal States for your vassals code back. Even if you don’t want to keep them as an ally it lets you take the land for no AE in exchange for favors.
29:30 when you were wondering what province byzantine we're at check the states and territories map and you can see which province(s) they are currently coring. This works for everything except reconquest and personal Union wars where they don't have to core. It's a good way to see who you need to ally to join a war with you

Ok so France is actually an AE monster with those free Burdungy/Provance/Papal state missions. Sadly there is no information in "Which land your ally wants exactly and how much of them he wanna take during 1 war" I mean you can check their intrest but you don't know if someone will take whole Florence or just 3 provinces. 1. Feed Provance as much you can, so you don't get AE. In my case i gave him 3 provinces from Brittany, 1 from Pope, Saluzo and bunch of Savoyrian? Lands. Also 2 provinces for Lorraine. In exchange i got a lot of favours so if i wanted i could finish that quest faster. 2. Burgundy - Similar as above, each time i had war with someone close to his PU - Gave 1/2 provinces if i could Feeed Savoy 3. Papal - Had him since start, was slowly feeding him Whole Italy. + Once i knew i wanted to click missions i made few vassals for myself just to give Papal extra provinces. In my game i had before 1500 all England, close to whole Italy (just few Aragoneese lands left cause i was trying to get PU over Castille, didn't work and i didn't abuse restarts), Standard Vassals as Byzantine/Bulgaria/Styria, Burgundy etc, With close to no AE :D

The problem with the mission tree is that you need to own or have subject own naples inorder to complete the mission that make pope your march. But sometimes pope can do it himself, which is super frustrating. The should also make a condition that if you align with pope and the pope control the naples also can complete the mission
Ive noticed a lot of RUclipsrs have the same game of Ottomans not expanding into Mamluke territory. Otherwise, cant wait to do a new France playthrough!
You can ask to Pope for the Provence cores and if Provence get more than 100 dev points you get cores over Napoli, not claims cores and you can get back with not agreesive expansion and remember the new missions of France do more easy integrate Provence.

It doesnt count and France had more than France, im pretty sure getting out of over a decade of political instability, military crisis against several countries economical crisis etc... winning several coalition wars prior, defeating the 2 other strongest continental Empires like half a year prior makes up for lack of german unification) Beside losing a war isnt anything new, France was still very shortly afterward back to one of the strongest of Europe just no longer an potential Hegemon. The only severe defeat that lasted a sh** ton of time really was 1940 and thats really it

For people who play ironman dont go for provence unless you feel lucky, theres only a 10% chance to get the PU over them with the diplo version of the mission (you still get pu cb)
That's wrong my dude. They removed auto inheritance of Provence Mission and drasticly increase chance for then to accept our. In 3 tries they accepted three times
It is now 100% however You cant insta annex them now via the other mission. Keep in mind You cant get Musketeers until you have no vassal on mainland france so it’s at least 50 years extra if you get them in a pu

You can save so much AE with such missions ^^.

you can keep the holy orders and swithc back to the offensive pope branch u get to choose another option when u do the mission alpine pass.

EU4 Franc is kind of like even if you are not aware of enemy, your nation protects the player a lot.

Why not take Ceuta from the Portugese in the first war and then you get another free expansion route with basically no ae?
