This whole series brings back a lot of memories as I worked at AM General for 39 years and spent a lot of time working as repair and also quality assurance (test driving), and my brother worked as repair and also as utility person filling in for absentees on the chassis line.
@French Frys Sorry, I'm not a mechanic, so you might want to do a Google search on that one. We fixed issues involving the assembly process and we had a GM tech that fixed any engine issues that showed up. Wish I could help you more.
Where does the diff breather end? Just curious how high it is? I understand hummers are limited to crossing 30 inches of water. Does that have to do with air intake? Does the transmission also have a breather? Does the transfer case?
All breathers are tied together and run to the top of the air box. The Marine and fording Humvees have sealed dipsticks and everything so you can go much deeper with the snorkel etc. Normal Humvees use a lot of seam sealer/caulk to seal everything in the air box area and it's mostly cracked so water can get in much easier.

So if it’s old and cracked does that mean 30 inches is too high? Is it difficult to “re-seal” the air box?
