Just in case people need a refresher and don't want to go through the 9 minute video, I've typed out the DON'Ts below: 1. Do not use products without knowing what's in them. 2. Beware of mineral oil, petroleum, alcohols and cones (silicones). Some hairs cannot tolerate them. 3. Do not forget to clarify your hair (1x or 2x a month as needed) 4. Do not forget to pre-poo (coat hair in conditioner or oil for 45 min-1hr) before clarifying your hair 5. Do not ever forget to use a moisturizing conditioner after shampooing. 6. Do not neglect your nape and edges when moisturising and sealing. 7. Do not be inconsistent in your hair journey (aka moisturise & seal every single day and without fail) 8. Do not place too much stress on your hair in general, especially your edges and nape (eg. make sure braids aren't too tight) 9. Do not use rubber-bands on your hair. 10. Do not ever use heat without a heat protectant. And try and use heat infrequently (1x a month or even less) 11. The sun counts as heat! Do not go out in hot/sunny areas without some heat protectant on your hair. 12. Do not over-process your hair. Wait at least 2 months before every relaxer - stretch for longer if you can. 13. Do not over-manipulate your hair (styling every day, combing multiple times a day) Finger-comb instead 14. Do not forget to silk tie your hair (in a bonnet, scarf or with silk/satin pillowcases).
To James McKent - please refrain from inappropriate, inflammatory, and unprovoked comments. This is a seemingly welcoming, informative young lady who is extending her helpful tips to people on a HHJ. If this is not your goal...exit stage left.
Ok - this is the best relaxed hair ever. I love the texture, I love that it's not bone straight, but has movement. Your hair is my hair goal!!! Awesome!!!!
Your hair is so beautiful. It looks thick (like mine) & healthy. You have given excellent advice & you're living proof that what you do works! Great job!
You're such a beautiful young lady!!! Thanks for sharing your HH knowledge! And always remember, there will always be someone espousing negative comments(unfortunately). That's when you turn to how really blessed you are!!! Keep your hair videos coming. There're a lot of us who really appreciate them and your bright spirit:)
Pretty Witty you are my FAVORITE hair queen....when you say "don't ever do that" and "flips hair" it always puts a smile on my face! More vids puleeease!
Great tips and you have beautiful hair. Some products that have mineral oil and lanolin make my hair very soft, especially deep conditioners with it. Some people are really scared of mineral oil for no reason. If you are clarifying you should be fine. I just avoid non-soluble silicones and mineral oil in heavy greases such as the blue grease. That's the heavy mineral oil you should avoid. Other than that, mineral oil is fine.
@BButtonSt I don't have a set time. It depends on your hair & it's thickness. Weaves could be good for stretching but I should keep your hair moisturized underneath. I've heard stories about ladies hair matting and tangling up underneath which is scary to me.
Girl this what I'm talkin about. You inspire me fa real! I'm bsl but I'm working on discipline and building a healthy hair routine, like actually following through consistently. I'm a get there!
Hi prettywitty77, thanks 4 your helpful tips and down to earth videos! I've noticed that using unnatural products (those with chemical names such as alcohol, PEGs, petrolatum, etc) tend to cause buildup, that's why I love natural oils, especially coconut oil, which not only prevents negative effects but produces positive benefits. And from my experiences I really don't believe it's necessary to buy any styling products, as hair has it's natural curl/wave pattern and natural oils, water, and a positive attitude work wonders! I was doing the wash-go style for years by just co-washing and air drying after leaving a little conditioner in it and people always wondered what I used...curling products are really unnecessary.
Your hair is soooooo beautiful. That's where I'm trying to be. My hair has been weaved up for 4 months off and on so idk where I'm at with length. It was at almost shoulder length when I got my last perm in August. You're my motivation =)
I have never cowashed because I am not really sure as to how to do it. After watching your videos I have somewhat of an idea. And as far as relaxing I normally get my hair relaxed every 6 wks b/c that is what I was taught. (DON'T BEAT ME UP LOL) I recently started stretching my relaxer and I am very happy because my hair came out great.
@TheEbrathwaite If you use clips, you won't get any dents. & it doesn't completely flatten your new growth. However, I've seen some ladies flat iron just their newgrowth after doing a Saran wrap roller set. Only passing the flat iron thru ONCE.
I have to say ur video has been really helpful. I just got a perm recently and i had been doing a lot of things on this list and i've got to say, it's put my hair thru hell. Thanx for making this video
I love to cowash with herbal essence's hello hyration. I only pre poo before I shampoo. However if i cowash one week, the following week I'm prepoo and clarify to remove the products for my hair to prevent build up.
I didn't intend to start a hair journey, my hair just started growing like mad! So I decided to seize the moment and take care of it xD I loooveeee finger combing too!! My sister and my mum are fed up of me refusing to comb or brush my hair for days! My hair is very fine strand-wise (but I have a lot) so it breaks easier, I feel that not combing allows my hair to rest and I have noticed its very strong and even thicker at the ends because its not being pulled once or twice a day! Hehe, thanks for this :D
The nape and edges tip was WONDERFUL! Alot people neglect that area and in the black community the nape and the edges are there problem areas. I myself make sure I ALWAYS get me nape and edges really moisturized because like you they can get really dry especially that nape. lol :) Great video!
I never saw any girl who relaxed + bleached her hair on youtube. I would love to see one. Is it really something impossible ? Growing long bleached+relaxed hair ? I don't want to make that mistake, I'm just tired of flat iron.
Keeping my roots moisturized always helps me when stretching. I also do styles that put less stress on my roots. Buns or braidouts. what styles are you doing?
Because I'm not licensed in that area, I'd prefer not to record myself doing it. I wouldn't won't anything to go wrong with somebody's hair because they were trying to copy me. Chemicals are nothing to play/experiment with.
Ur hair is absolutely Beautiful. Yes length is great, but the thickness is what really makes it look good. Long thin strands are not attractive. Lol . Thanx for the tips. Im now a new subbie ;-
@Audreckaluvdesign I've only done one six month stretch. And during that time, I realllly got to know my hair. Now, I stretch for 12 weeks but my last relaxer was stretched a tad bit more for 16 weeks. If you have products that will allow u to stretch longer- stretchhhhh it l, sista. Lol for me, keeping my newgrowth moisturized did it for me.
OMG lol guess who is on my recommended list for youtube. Whitneyyyyyy lol I didn't know you had a channel. This La'Tonya by the way. I'm so jealous of your hair, it's so pretty and thick. I'm gonna be where you are in 3 years, well that's my hair length goal at least. Great and informative video even tho I'm natural. Moisturizing and sealing your ends, finger combing, low manipulation to hair and sleeping with satin bonnets & pillows cases are great things to keep hair healthy.
That is no theory it's true! But honestly I can not stand my natural hair and I have had perm for the past 9 years. You have to give it extra hair care and it will grow! That is true.
You have some really beautiful hair. Even though I'm natural, I think there should be more hair videos for relaxed hair. Black people, relaxed or natural, can have long pretty hair. Though they are both different and have different needs, but they still have some of the same needs. I just picked a couple of tips from you
Do you ever wear weaves or braids during your hair journey? I like using weaves and braids occasionally cos they keep my hair out of the way and help it grow. I just wanted your advice on taking care of hair when its in braids or weaves. Thanks :) x
That should be fine but try it on damp hair. And be very careful with that egg. Be sure to rinse with lukewarm water or it will literally "cook" in your hair.
Trust me everybody wants some edges! Toooooo funny i couldnt stop laughing you are so right. Thats why I had to stop getting those braids! Braids will STEAL your edges away and I thought it would help grow my hair. Seems like I had more hair coming out than growing. My hair seems so thin now.
When you mention Clarifying, what exactly do you mean? I had relaxed hair since 2012, but I stopped relaxing and went natural in 2013. After careful consideration, I have decided to go back to the relaxer because I'm not noticing better results since I stopped relaxing. My hair is really thick, I can hardly manage it, and my scalp is very dry, so I've been wearing wigs, but I'm tired of them and I want to start a hair journey. When I did relax my hair, I started noticing lots of build up and I really want to avoid that problem this time around.
I know you will not be making a video of you relaxing but can you tell me how long u leave it in for.after.you have applied it to your whole head.also would you recommend weaves to help with the stretching process or can your hair lack moisture by doing so?plz get back to me. I love ur videos they really do help
I have a theory. I think the reason our hair doesn't grow long (some of us black women), is NOT because its not "growing". Our hair grows all the time, thats why we have to shave and thats why our roots start coming out. Its not lack of growth, its the fact that our old hair isnt strong enough, therefore it breaks off! Heat, Perms etc, that makes our hair weak and therefore it breaks off leaving just the new hair. Thats why it feels like our hair stays the same length. But thats just my theory
Hello I am so amazed with your hair. I want to know how do I start my hair journey. I am really ready to begin. My hair was so healthy at one time when I was working out constantly. Now I do not work out as much. I have been drinking water on and off. As well as I take 5,000 mcg of biotin everyday. I wash my hair once every two weeks b/c it tends to dry out really quickly. I use Optimum Deep Conditioning Masque every time I wash. I need some advice. Please Help!!!
clarifying your hair is cleaning it from buildup. People use shampoo with sulfate in it to do it.. naturals use apple cider vinegar or clarifying shampoo or conditioner..
Question: can I do a heavy protein which consists of one egg, olive oil and mayo on dry hair, then clarify my hair and use herbal essence after to add back moisture?
I have never cowashed my hair, but I usually wear my hair in Senagalese twists and relax about three times a year. I'm currently at shoulder length (SL) and want to grow my hair to about your length. Any tips?
I have a question about how often you do your relaxers, I know you started out stretching your relaxers every 6 months and then you moved to every 4 months. how long did you stretch your relaxer for 6 months before you decide that you would start stretching every 4months, is there any reason why you made that change, this info will help me out a lot because I am 4 months post and I am trying to stretch my relaxers to every 6 months I have found products that make my hair manageable.
Hi, I just watched your "Saran Wrap Roller Set Tutorial" and have a question. Does this method take out the dents you get with the rollers? And does it flatten out new growth?

Hi, My nape and edges wont grow but i dont stress it. I wear weaves this is how im growing my hair out, i started using dr miracles nape and temple grow a few days ago. what should I do? also how often should I be moisturizing my hair if its in a weave? i currently spray mooisturizer on my scalp and braids everyday

YASSSSSSS. Those are very sensitive areas that break so easily.

You have gorgeously long hair! Can't wait until mine is this long!

Your hair is soooo pretty. You make me wish that I was relaxed.
Your hair is amazing. So beautiful and shiny
thanks!
Its never been THIS long before. My average length was between shoulder & armpit length.
Do you think the HH could be causing the build up? Your hair is still gorgeous!! You've done a fine job.
Your hair is really long and healthy by the way!! Question, what conditioners do you use to cowash with and do you pre poo before a cowash?

Your hair is so stunning! You are my hair inspiration :)
@tetesmommi I use to bun alllll the time. But how that it's longer, I find myself doing a tad bit more of braidouts, twist outs etc.
I Have a rubber band on my hair right now I didn't know thanks I new to this

Hi La'Tonya!!!! Im shocked that you found little ole me on youtube. lol Good luck on your hair goal, I KNOW you can do it!
@PinkPassion53 I started Jan. 2011 at BSB LENGTH. & made WL July 2012.
you're so beautiful and knowledgeable thank you for the tips!
Gorgeous hair as always btw!
Beautiful Hair! One question; do you trim your hair and if so how often?
Gorgeous, amazing, beautiful!!!! You are awesome!

Lakesha Harden clarifying your hair is using a shampoo to strip all product from your hair. It removes all my product build up.
Your hair is gorgeous
It works great and it's not heavy
Your hair is gorgeous! :) my hair is currently very close to BSL but I have probs with breakage at my temples :( any tips for me?
@MsMockingbird06 Yes. But I was kinda waiting for it to get a little longer.
Love the hair, can you tell me the heat protector you use?
currently, Im using ORS creamy aloe shampoo.
ummm, idk. My guess is that its coming from a deep condition or something. It only feels different like right after a rinse out.
I know you will not be making a video of you relaxing but can you tell me how long u leave it in for.after.you have applied it to your whole head.also would you recommend weaves to help with the stretching process or can your hair lack moisture by doing so?plz get back to me. clarifying your hair is cleaning it from buildup. People use shampoo with sulfate in it to do it.. naturals use apple cider vinegar or clarifying shampoo or conditioner..
i love your hair!!! was your hair always long ?
Can u make a video on how you achieve a straight look. Do you blow dry or flat iron ext?
I do not use blow dryers or flat irons. ruclips.net/video/6wDWdx5MdIs/видео.html
Lovely hair & great vid.
so glad I found your channel today. I subscribed.

" EVERYBODY WANT SOME EDGES" .... YOU AINT NEVA LIED.... LOL.. : )
Is adding peppermint oil to your deep conditioner too much for the scalp when u relax ?

Lovely hair, thanks for the tips
REally helpful. Many thanks Steph in London.
whats clarifying your hair?? and which products do u use plz??
about 5 days a week.
Hey prettywitty77 what hair forum did you use when you started your hair journey?
Hi, I just watched your "Saran Wrap Roller Set Tutorial" and have a question. Does this method take out the dents you get with the rollers? And does it flatten out new growth?

aww thanks!
I looooove hello hydration as a rinse out but it does build up on my hair so it may be that?
Hi, My nape and edges wont grow but i dont stress it. I wear weaves this is how im growing my hair out, i started using dr miracles nape and temple grow a few days ago. what should I do? also how often should I be moisturizing my hair if its in a weave? i currently spray mooisturizer on my scalp and braids everyday
lol thanks Lisa!
Okay I am a 12 year old girl who have shoulder length hair, is it better to co wash or shampoo and are creme of nature argan oil products good?
aww thankssss!
Anything u put on our scalp if u use too much of it can build up your hair
