I remember watching it totally blown away. From that point on, Chris Stapleton could just take my money!

Chris is priceless and I really love the powerful magic created by Justin and Chris like they are pushing each other to be better and Morgane is tearing it up with harmonies.
This was Chris' breakout performance. He had a strong following before this but was more recognized as a songwriter. The next day Tennessee Whiskey was getting played everywhere and his music went straight to the top of the charts.

Man Chris Stapleton can SANG!!! he was a writer for a long time writing for big names like Adele but about 10 years ago he started performing ...hes mostly a country artist but has like a total of 8 genres he plays and after seeing him live im convinced hes in his own genre... Others probably already pointed it out -- this performance at the CMA was not the last song of the night, and you're right -- the folks following that performance had an impossible bar to reach. These two songs were in the middle of the CMAs and that had to hurt the remaining performers.

It’s one of the greatest performances on an awards show and a great story of how it came to happen. Chris told his wife that he was a little nervous about doing this show and she told him to invite one of his friends to perform with him. He didn’t want to ask any one being the humble guy that he is. His wife said ask Justin. And pop goes the weasel!

That was the first time the majority of people heard about him. Chris was a staple (no pun intended) in Nashville for years before this. I first found him by mistake sometime in 2010 when my band was looking for material. The song in particular was “Your Man” as recorded by Josh Turner. What I didn’t know is that Chris wrote it. I heard him do it on a video from the Bobby Bones show. It still blows me away.

OK, so here's the lowdown on Chris Stapleton and the song Tennessee Whiskey. It was first recorded in 1981 by David Allen Coe, then in 1983 by George Jones, in a very classic, traditional country arrangement. Chris brilliantly infused it with blues, and the results speak for themselves. Justin Timberlake released a song called "Say Something" and Chris collaborated on it. They've developed a close friendship over the last few years. I would consider him sort of a country artist, with a blues/gospel/rock flare. He was in a Bluegrass band called The Steeldrivers, who put out some amazing stuff. He's been a well respected songwriter in the industry for years and has written songs for Adele, Kenny Chesney, Darius Rucker, Joss Stone, Sheryl Crow and Blake Shelton, just to name a few. His wife, who you see on stage, was working with a friend at a neighboring recording studio, when she heard Chris sing for the first time. She said she knew instantly the type of backup vocals needed for Chris' music, and became somewhat of a stalker. She can be credited with pushing him to become a recording artist. They had their fifth child on mother's day this year, after having twins last year. She sings on all the songs on his Traveler album, which is chocked full of masterpieces. He's easily the most talented and dynamic artist of my lifetime. His vocals are unmatched. I'm going to link some of his songs for you to listen to and/or react to. I promise you, you will be hooked.
