You forgot to mention that this entire park was built by one man (and in later years his family). And that Walt Disney sent his imagineers up here to see how one man could do all this alone, and his team was (at the time) struggling… My wife’s grandmother went to school with and was friends with Roger Tofte.
Thanks for shining some light on our little quirky park. The Tofte family does a great job keeping the park alive, and I was happy to see them survive the pandemic and a damaging winter ice storm. I would love to see them build another coaster, or ride, something using the terrain.
The Monroe ride was the first modern trackless ride system installed in the county. It’s a well known fact that Disney imagining went too this park too see it in action. So in a way without the enchanted forest we might not have rise of the resistance.
I remember going to this park when I was a kid in the '80s. I'm surprised and delighted to learn that not only is it still there, but it's almost exactly the same as I remember it. There's comfort in that.
This place is a total trip, but it's definitely not to be missed if you're in the area. Shame you skipped Challenge of Mondor...it's a trackless shooting dark ride that is among the best I've seen at a non-destination park.
I grew up in Oregon and went to this place as a kid. Really made me smile seeing all the old memories. The Log Ride and the Plexiglass were there back in the 90's, and it looks like it's aged surprisingly well.
The fact that the whole place (aside from the rides) was pretty much built by just Roger Tofte and his family is pretty awesome. Also, the coaster with the enclosed cars is actually a retrofit of an alpine slide type attraction which is why it has such tight clearances.
These "Story Book Land"-type attractions used to be all over the US. Most were not this elaborate, though. I suspect a lot of them opened either in the wake of Disneyland, or even a bit in advance of Disneyland inspired by Disneyland's advance publicity. The main attraction would be these fairytale walkthroughs and maybe there would be one or two rides. I went to one in Woodbridge, Virginia when I was a kid. Most of them are gone now, but Story Land in NH is one that survived and grew into a full-scale family theme park, and there are several others that people in these comments are describing.
That maze you went through made me think of the 5,000 sq. foot wooden maze I did in Indiana. Took me 19 minutes according to my "time card" (there's a time clock that you punch your card with). It felt longer than that, though. :) If I ever go to Oregon, I'd definitely check out Enchanted Forest!
I thought you were alone for a while before your family came on camera 😅 Was a nice change of pace from your recent vlogs for sure! Cool look at a quote obscure little park I didn’t even know existed! I’ll have to add it to my list for one day
Humpty Dumpty sat on a wall, Humpty Dumpty had a great fall. Some kids found him, and brought him home, they cracked his egg and fried him up. Yummy yummy eggs for dinner.
Great vlog on a local gem. This park has been through some struggles in recent years so it is good to see it being featured. I am glad you got to this park on one of the cool days of the summer. Temperatures throughout most of the summer have been above average with one day in Salem going up to 117 degrees, 116 in Portland and 108 in Seattle. To give you an idea how hot that is the all time temperature in Washington D.C. was 106. Obviously Washington D.C. is far more humid but 117 is downright unbearable no matter what the humidity is.
Oh my gosh Taylors haunted mine drop footage and Glenwood caverns vlog are on inside edition! Thats cool (not what happened on the ride, but his footage being on national tv)
Went here a couple times as a kid, I remember even back then the commercials made me think it was just a Disneyland ripoff. I thought everywhere had a cheap local version of Disneyland until a couple years ago when the internet got weirdly obsessed with how weird it is, I'm visiting Salem in a month and am debating going back to relive some childhood nostalgia but without a Car it's kind of difficult to get to.
I’m 41 now but back when I was younger in the 80s my mother & her sisters took all of the kids to a place called the Enchanted forest & it was from what I remember they same type of vibe the park you were at has. I know for sure it wasn’t the one you were at because I’m from Maryland & never been to the west coast. The park we went to had to be in MD, VA or DE.
Loved the video, it brought back memories for me, I visited Enchanted Forest in 2008 my favorite ride there was the big timber Log ride, and I do agree that it is a one and done park but it will surprise you, it did me great video once again!!!
@@Reality_a_thing Takoda lives in oregon now so they probably recorded some stuff for the next parody there. This is how we roll is releasing on October 8th iirc.
This used to be my home park until I moved to Oklahoma and oh my god this is a great park if you are a kid! Ice Mountain is a great 1st coaster other than the fact that it kinda stinks inside the mountain and you cant go wrong drinking some hot chocolate going through the story area, and then getting a pizza at lunch time and watching the water show!
Sadly this is the only amusement park Oregon has! Can you do anything about that? Oh I forget, Oaks amusement park in Portland... Even older than the Enchanted Forest... But it does have a million dollar coaster in it... 🤪
Def more than a one and done! I've gone a couple times in the last couple years. You keep seeing things you've missed every time you go back. Also, Challenge of Mondor is a nifty LOTR rip off story line with lots of Dragons and Wizards and stuff. Original IP, baby!
Efteling indeed started out as an enchanted forest, but has grown huge! Next year Efteling will celebrate 70 years and 2023 they are going to expand the park and Efteling will finally get an Intamin launched coaster ;-)
There’s a cool Crooked house at Arnold’s park in Okoboji Iowa also I nice little park with a wood coaster but don’t ride the rocket ship that goes in vertical circles really painful although might have been improved.
it's funny how this is the nearest theme park to me but I grew up in Santa Clarita and went all the time to magic mountain and even worked there to this being the nearest park too me
