  • Today, the Ninja Gaiden series is looked back on fondly by those who have taken the time to play the original games or the modern reboots and those games will surely continue to live on for future generations of gamers to enjoy due to their timeless challenge and excellent presentation.
    With such a fantastic start to the franchise, and so many more profitable and affectionately revered sequels and reboots that followed, why has the series seemingly stopped in its tracks? What the hell happened to Ninja Gaiden?

      The problem is that none of the weapons' combos flow into eachother, they are just different finite strings, limits players' creativity.
      You got dmc, bayo, nier:automata, godhand, darksiders 2, even monster hunter and some others. all of these have deeper combat, some of which are not necessarily better though.

And besides, Team Ninja have found their cash cow in Dead Or Alive with their multiple season passes, I honestly think they don't get enough flak for doing so. Anyways, have a good day.

      I tried the demo and it felt like the game was really playing itself, it didn't matter how I was timing my inputs all kinds of random stuff was coming out and enemies were dropping without any resistance. Plus with that Steel on Bone I'd be getting that randomly and one shoting and bunch of guys so again just all felt meh. However credit to Razors Edge for bringing back the Obliteration techniques from NG2 and extra weapons but why weren't there at the start? Also for Ninja Gaiden 4 I don't want to be playing through the whole game with a set of demonic nunchucks because that's what the story dictates (not that I'm saying don't shoot for a better story, just don't have it limit what you can do, especially when you could do it in the previous games)

      I thought NG2 was a step back from NG Black myself. But it was still good. NG3 was indeed a big downgrade. I would like to see a remastered trilogy released. Mostly focusing on making NG3 good, and maybe adding extra missions pulled from enemies/areas of all 3 games.

    I love this series especially NG1 and NG2. NG1 was the first hard game I got good at, so fun when you know it's hard but you just owning everything. Then I bought a DS for NGDS when it came out, was a fun portable game before mobile games and was Momiji's origin game. After that I got NG2 first day, lived up to my expectations, was everything like the first NG but hyper mode, and my favorite. Can still remember that pumped up ending, fighting your way into the deepest part of hell and they give you the two most baddest swords in the game to dual wield against the final boss with ass kicking music playing in the background, the kind that only plays when you knows shits going down.
    I also like NG3 and YNGZ, got them first day too, though being honest they're not as good as NG1 and NG2, but I still like them. After playing Nioh, I'm hoping new Team Ninja can finally make a triumphant return for Ryu Hayabusa, my ninja's been underrated for too long.

    The same team that made the sigma series is the same team that made NG Razor's Edge, 3, Yaiba along with Kenji infunae team, DOA5, and Nioh. The new team refuses to listen to fans and even the current head even disrespect the former head Itagaki also one time. When everytime we asked for the series to go back to the semi-openworld format like the Ninja Gaiden 2004 game they do something else that we didn't really ask for and obviously fail in the process. Besides Nioh its the main and only franchise that made a great positive cult following and DOA 5 in some form to fans.

Itagaki when he rebooted for the original Xbox immediately told us he was the right successor and the right man to lead Ninja and DOA (even tho he created that series). Now Ninja Gaiden did dumb down a little bit with its sequels but once Ninja Gaiden 3, Razor's edge, Yaiba it gave us a sign that shows that this new team doesn't know how to push the series foward.

      Mula Motivation Mula Motivation Mula Motivation Why, you ask? It's simple. Ninja Gaiden 3 is a button masher. Even though, you have dozens of different combos, it's enough to mash two buttons through the whole game. Previous Ninja Gaidens were something akin to Souls games, but faster and, in my opinion, more demanding. If you didn't learn how to fight well enough, they you wouldn't have a chance of progressing in the game. Here, you're just slashing with different weapons the same way, through all enemies without any problems. Attack, attack, attack, sometimes dodge, attack attack, attack and so on for... 8 hours or so. That's the main problem. It's... Simple. You just sit down, turn on the game and the same buttons over and over again, while character on the screen cuts through enemies and spills blood and guts everywhere.

Razors edge was an attempt at bringing back what people wanted from the series and was a MASSIVE improvement over the original ng3 but still not nearly the masterpiece that black/sigma and 2 were. Also, Yiaba isn’t really worth comparing when talking about the mainline series. It’s an average beat em up at best.

      Mario Sanon Ninja Gaiden is my favorite franchise of all time and I’ve played every version every game since the 2004 Xbox version. I do understand why people weren’t satisfied with razors edge and it’s not definitely not perfect but aside from weird hit boxes/detection on certain enemies and mostly underwhelming bosses, the game is a still a lot of fun to play. If anything the game is worth it just for the insane amount of content it offers. Being able to play the entire campaign with Ayana, kasumi, and momiji is just awesome

      I still say 2 was already a step down. It felt unfinished, the in-your-face "attitude" of the presentation was annoying, and they messed up redesigning Irene to bear no resemblance to the original character. (not to mention that we already had Rachel, so we didn't really need another comedically disproportionate woman in the series.)

    • @bfish89ryuhayabusa
      @bfish89ryuhayabusa 5 лет назад

      All The Reasons Why Definitely. I had a response typed out, but I decided to check what I said before, and I essentially repeated my previous comment, that it felt unfinished, had this annoying attitude, and that Sonia was just a teenage boy's wet dream at a point where other developers had started to learn to not do that. It managed to make me feel unmotivated to finish a game in my favorite series.

    • @user-ie7lj5cq3f
      @user-ie7lj5cq3f 5 лет назад +1

      BFisch it’s a tough call for me between the first 2 but I really think I would give the slight edge to ng2. The first game is still incredibly good but backtracking in the open areas to solve puzzles does get a little annoying after the first initial playthrough. I like that ng2 dropped all of that in favor of being 100% action. Also gotta give a nod to the insane gore in the second game. With all that being said the first game has a far superior soundtrack. But hey, they are both right at the top of my list
      HOWEVER for the handful of people who play on master ninja, the first game is a lot more balanced. In the second game those Spider ninjas with the incinerary shirokins (spelling? Lol) border on being unfair

    As a long time fan of the franchise I think that they should go back to their roots of what got them here and build from there. I'm talking about bringing back the Arcade game, a modern version but still keep the Arcade feel to it. The younger generations will be drawned to it and the old time gamers like me will definitely appreciate it since that game was special.

    Given how gamers look at Dark Souls as the most difficult game to master, today is the perfect time to either remaster the most recent trilogy, or simply reboot the series again. Ninja Gaiden Black was significantly more difficult than any Dark Souls game, and it was more rewarding.

    I had NG Sigma, NG Sigma 2, NG 3 (not Razor's Edge) and Yaiba NG Z. I loved all of them. NG Sigma 2's two player co-op was awesome. I never could complete NG 3's campaign. Couldn't beat the huge dragon mecha. My son loved the NG 3 multiplayer. And Yaiba is a good game for what it is on it's own. Couldn't finish it. Got stuck on one of the boss fights I believe. But Ninja Gaiden has been missing from my life for far too long now.

    The thought of an open world NG game would just be absolutely amazing. Let it be done in different sandbox regions of the world. A city with buildings, a forest with Japanese huts, a snow covered area and maybe even a fight arena to fight hordes of enemies. It would be badass but open world and hack n slash titles usual don't mix. That's why we've yet to have seen one exist. Throw some rpg elements in there and it'll be perfect.

    Ninja Gaiden Black is the rarest exception. I think the entire team was proud of what they built, but saw even more potential. Or a missed opportunity. They then created the most masterful game ever laid down. NG 2 was pretty good too although parts felt rushed. It almost seemed more 2 dimensional than the firsy.

  • @betelgeuse68
    @betelgeuse68 4 года назад +2

    Um, Ninja Gaiden 3 was NOT for casual players. You guys are talking out of your rear orifice. Since the game was one of the freebies this month for Xbox Gold members, I've been playing it. The Day 4 final boss is very hard. There's nothing casual about it. I played Black and NG2 and still had the "muscle memory" from those experiences and I've found NG3 to be challenging at times. The achievement percentages bear this out, I finished Day 6, and the achievement rate for that was a mere 19.98%. Hell, even finishing Day 2, brought the achievement rate down to 33%. NG3's problem is that it's contrived, even for the nonsense that were the first two games -- Japanese studios aren't known for their writing. That aside, I've enjoyed ripping to shreds regular opponents once again in NG3.

    I completely disagree that the first Ninja Gaiden was difficult in an unfair way. The game was more about pattern recognition and memorization than it was about making decisions on the fly. Once you accept the fact that it’s a less traditional platformer, it’s much easier to appreciate.

    I consider this the real reason for the disappearance of Ninja Gaiden... at least for now for sure or maybe even forever.
    Ninja Gaiden Sigma was received pretty well at start. However, as soon as Itagaki and the quarrels began, the community also began to turn its back on NGS. And then it was just about hating the new team for trying to put their own ideas into the game and develop the series. Every Ninja Gaiden of the new generation doesn't play like the one before. They are not even close to each other gameplay wise. The newer games since Ninja Gaiden 2004 were all about development in the gameplay. But if you now listen to what most people say about the future of Ninja Gaiden: "Bring back Itagaki." and "Only Itagaki can save the series."
    What should a content creator like the new team do then? Imagine you are a game developer, but most people - especially from the core community - basically just want a Ninja Gaiden from Itagaki, a former developer. They don't want to put your own ideas into the game and develop the series by your input. Of course you drop the series. Why go on at the moment when most criticism is about "going back to the roots and do a Ninja Gaiden like Itagaki did." and therefore you aren't accepted in the Ninja Gaiden community?
    Now Team Ninja focuses on another series and abandoned Ninja Gaiden. And look what happened: Without all of the hate of the Ninja Gaiden community jacking off to the Itagaki Ninja Gaidens and still complaining about the loss of him, they developed Nioh which was received so well that they now announced Nioh 2.
    I hope that the series is not dead. But as they said in an interview: Ninja Gaiden needs to be in the shadows for a while. And seemingly it will be at least a very long while or they even might gonna drop it for sure to focus on other series with a community that actually is willing to give credits for what they are doing.

  • @danzohattori
    @danzohattori 5 лет назад

    I’ll tell you what really happened. It’s simple really. You touched on it in the video even. Tomonobu Itagaki’s departure is what happened. Even Ninja Gaiden Sigma II had a number of flaws because of Yosuke Hayashi’s (Itagaki’s “successor”) direction. Itagaki was the heart and soul of the Ninja Gaiden revival. Watch/read some of his interviews and you will see that he was a rare breed. Until someone rises from the ashes that truly LOVES Ninja Gaiden as much as he did and directs a new entry, I would prefer they not tarnish the series anymore. Nioh seems to be getting great reception. Team Ninja should just build on that for a while.

    My biggest problem is that every game that has sword/melee weapons fighting in it seem to be like darksouls (bloodborne, nioh, sekiro etc.) We need more games like this masterpiece. The most recent games that play similar are MGSRR (even though it's older now it's still relevent somehow) Nier Automata, Furi, and DMCV . But they all are still so different. DMCV is about even with NInja Gaiden in fun though. Ninja Gaiden just seems a bit faster (Not including the DMC reboot flop and Vergil.)

    I’m still actively waiting on the next Ninja Gaiden I can play on PS4. I love God of War, DMC, & Darksiders, but the best hack & slash is EASILY Ninja Gaiden. The combos you can do in these games is ridiculously fucking cool and Ryu Hayabusha is hands down the best ninja badass ever.
    Ninja Gaiden 3 is trash and totally not worth playing, but Ninja Gaiden 3: Razor’s is a far better improvement and fixes A LOT of the issues NG3 had. Unfortunately I reckon most people missed out on it because of that and it really is quite a shame because Razor’s Edge is tough as nails. I mean I thought Sigma 2 was difficult enough, but man this one racks up the difficulty even more. They even let you play as Ayane, Momiji, Rachel, and you get to play as Kashmiri for the first time. The story is still the same but combat and gameplay is soooooo much better.

    I hope TEAM NINJA sees this or whoever wants to reboot the series... PLEASE make a ninja gaiden 4.. you want a 10/10 critically acclaimed game.. simple: Make a bigger interchangeable game with a few well connected locations with stuff to collect aka black sigma, add the combat or NG2 and Razors edge with time based combos rather than directional inputs and have Ryu the ability to instantly change from 3 different weapons at a time like in DMC to continue and expand your combo, a nice farming system with each location having special enemies and bam, add some stunning graphics with a somewhat solid story line and that's it.. make it also about 30 chapters long n there you go a 9/10 or 10/10 game!
